To all the students out there, welcome back to school! It’s that time of year again when you reunite with your respective orgs and recruit some new faces into the MAFAsphere. On the other hand, a huge shoutout to the MAFAlumni who continue to show their MAFA love and also inspire us out in the real world. To my readers, I hope you enjoy the first Newsletter of the 2015-2016 school year.
Without a doubt, I am way more than excited to serve as your new Secretary. In addition to this, I am extremely honored to be Robert Delfin’s successor and plan to make him proud as a fellow Spartan (We’re both St. Francis High School alumni from suburbia, Illinois. Typical, right?). I’d also like to give a huge shout out to our Media Master Jessa Kellie for making this Newsletter look as cool as it does. Without her creative skills, it wouldn’t look anything like this and would probably be boring so mad props to her.
One thing is for sure: this upcoming year definitely has a lot in store for all of you. The Newsletter is the best way to keep the MAFAsphere updated and I plan to do that and more. If anyone ever wants to be featured in the Newsletter please contact me even if it’s just to advertise a super fire mixtape. Remember, we all are here to support each other in every way. MAFA is an organization that we are privileged to be a part of. Because of this, we should take advantage of the resources around us. The Newsletter gives us the chance to voice out our own opinions and thoughts, especially as a Filipino-American in the Midwest.
Never forget your roots, ladies and gentlemen. And don’t let the world ever stop you from being who you are. As Nas once said, “You can never forget where you come from, no matter how far you go.”
Hey wassup hello!Hey wassup hello!
Always keep it real, Steph4

FUN FACT:The Philippine flag is extremely unique because the way it is flown indicates the nation’s state. Normally, the blue part is seen above the red part. However if the country is at war, the flag is turned upside down with the red part on top. The Philippines is the only country in the world that uses its flag to convey a message. Make sure you hang up your flag the right way!

ICYMI, summerleadershipretreat
In case you missed it, the Summer Leadership Retreat kicked off on June 26th to June 28th this year and was hosted by the spectacular UMich FASA. Representatives from many MAFA schools attended this retreat in order to get a better understanding of becoming prospective leaders for their own organizations. The new executive board definitely had a blast taking over, but it was also bittersweet for our previous board members. Despite this, it was still a great bonding experience for everyone. Thank you to all who attended and a special thank you to FASA for hosting and showing us around the wonders of Ann Arbor.
