SCOTTISH WILDFLOWERS

The s leepy poppy opens on a sunny day

when thundercups of scar let red can sway

where lovers s trol l and l inger in the grass

t i l l cr imson f i l l s their hear ts at las t .

Al l lovers love pr imroses on the land,

to take a f lower face with in their hands .

He is her f lower, and she is h is ,

a pr imrose in the pause before a k iss .

The wedding day br ings creamy meadowsweet ,

a spray of l ight and joy with in their reach

who pick the f lowers from wais t-h igh s tems

by r iver banks and s treamy bends .

Lovers who long for their hopes to l i f t

walk in the bluebel l wood to see the dr i f t

where the colour is f loat ing above the ground

and the ca l l of the thrush is the only sound.

Love , go with me among th is year ’s f lowers

and a l l the blue s lopes of the sky are ours .

MAEVE GILLIES

“Jewelry should make your heart sing”

MAEVONA is Maeve Gillies’s creation; her life, her love, her vision. Truly a young woman of exceptional artistic and entrepreneurial talent, this is her story so far… Maeve is a multi-award-winning Scottish designer and jeweler, who grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland, in a nationally-acclaimed family of writers, musicians, academics and politicians. Constantly exploring, making and drawing, Maeve demonstrated considerable artistic and musical talent from an early age. Maeve was six times champion at Scotland’s annual music awards, The National Mod, for her performance on the ‘clarsach’ – the Scottish harp - one of the oldest instruments in Celtic history.

Maeve’s future in jewelry began by chance at age 15. Trying out goldsmithing with a jeweler friend, Maeve discovered an all-consuming passion for jewelry

overnight. Maeve went on to complete a traditional training, with two degrees in jewelry and goldsmithing – irstly from the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland, then a Masters degree from the prestigious Royal College of Art in London. She is the recipient of several national design awards, including three from the Royal Society for the Arts in London. At the same time as her practical training, Maeve worked in a family-run retail jewelry store, where diamond engagement rings were her favorite sale. “Working with customers had such an inluence on me”, Maeve says. “I came to understand which designs work, and which don’t. To anticipate what makes someone feel special is so important.” Maeve’s quest to combine the creative and the commercial has taken her all around the world – designing, developing jewelry factories and working with young artists and traditional craftsmen across Asia, Australia, America and Europe. Maeve also spent three years as Head of Design for Domino, the largest platinum jewelry manufacturer in Europe, selling 35,000 rings a year in 30 countries. This in-depth focus on luxury manufacturing that appealed to a sophisticated consumer was the perfect preparation for Maeve’s ultimate vision – MAEVONA. In 2005 Maeve co-founded MAEVONA in New York City, specializing in unique Celtic-inspired bridal and fashion jewelry, launching to instant acclaim. In 2006, MAEVONA won the coveted ‘Town & Country Best Bridal Award’ at the Vegas Couture Show. In 2007, 2008 and 2009 MAEVONA won ‘JCK Retailer’s Choice’ Bridal Awards. Editors and stylists discovered MAEVONA’s innovative and distinctive Celtic-inspired designs, and America’s inest retailers quickly joined the MAEVONA family.
