From modest beginnings in 1912 when 63 students crammed into a single room above a fire station, Madison College has positioned itself as one of the finest two-year campuses in the country. We have a lot for which to be proud. Today’s graduating class is evidence of that.

Like every student who walks across the stage this evening, you have a unique motivation that carried you to this day. But what you all share in common is hard

work, determination and an unflagging drive to achieve success. When you began your education at Madison College, you may have thought this day would never come. But the reality is this: It’s here! And you did it!

After you receive your diploma, your relationship with Madison College will be forever changed. No longer will you be students of Madison College. Carlos d. aguilar came to Madison from ecuador, where he attended high school and was class valedictorian in 2007. the

first class he took at Madison College was an english as a second language level 3 course during the summer of 2008. Mr. aguilar has Cerebral Palsy, but has not allowed it to be an impediment to his academic success. He is completely independent at home, at college and in his personal life.

aguilar credits Madison College for being the doorway to his success in the united states. “Madison College gives students a strong foundation in science and technology and the skills to continue with our higher education goals,” he said.

an active student at Madison College, he has served as an it technician and vice president and president of the orgullo latino student club. in addition, he has served as a Madison College student senator and volunteered to help lead an alternative spring Break service trip for the homeless to Washington d.C. Mr. aguilar said the experiences he gained in those extra-curricular activities were invaluable. now he is confident that he can lead and manage a group successfully.

as a graduate from the it Mobile applications developer Program (it-Programmer/analyst), aguilar plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in software engineering – avionics at the prestigious embry-riddle aeronautical university. His passion is aviation and computers, therefore he spends much of his free time programming aircraft for Flight simulator x.
