The history of Wloclawek faience factories dates back to the late nineteenth century. In 1873 the first faience factory was established .The products from this factory made the city of Wloclawek famous throughout Europe. At that time they started producing plates, bowls, sets of kitchen containers, breakfast and dinner sets and a large range of faience accessories.Numerous products were decorated with multicoloured floral motifs making them functional objects of art. There were four faience factories in Wloclawek. Two of them opened next to Kosciuszko Street, occupying the area where a shopping centre now resides. In addition, there were also such factories as Keramos and Cohn Brothers’ factory situated in the former barracks at Staszic Square.

The year 1992 is the end of one phase in the history of Faience from Wloclawek. The area where the factory was situated underwent a gradual destruction. To stop this, Wloclawek City Hall sold the land of the factory to private individuals.New investors, shortly after receiving the land, began successive management changes that were unrelated to the original function of the property. In the same place, within a few years, many modern buildings appeared. Young people are very fascinated by the architecture of the existing buildings.

Wloclawek has many varieties of faience.Although associated primarily with blue flowers, we can more often observe different kinds of faience referring to the folk designs of the past.In private homes of Włocławek dwellers, faience is not only the city's history and its culture, but also a living testimony that you can cultivate the traditions of each day, such as drinking coffee in a decorative faience cup and decorate festive tables with painted faience figures.
