Biography

• Madame C.J Walker was born in Delta, Louisiana in 1867. Her real name was Sarah Breedlove. Madame C.J. Walker was known for being the first black woman to be a self-made millionare. Mrs. Walker helped women to be economically independent. She was suffering from a scalp ailment that resulted in her own hair loss. Mrs. Walker died May,25,1919. She was a washer woman in St.Louis,and there she got paid $1.50. Walker gave birth to a daughter named A’leia. Her parents Owen and Mineva were freed slaves.

Awards and Accomplishments

• Madame C.J Walker was inducted into the National Women’s in Seneca Falls, New York. She was also inducted in the Black Wax Museum in Baltimore. Walker was honered in 1993 as her face on a postage stamp
