• Go over the words and drill pronunciation, specially the year.
• Tell students that these are some pieces of information related to the Mona Lisa and the answers to the 5 questions you will ask. You can ask the questions to the whole class, or choose individual students to answer.
What is the Mona Lisa? (Painting)
Who painted it? (Leonardo da Vinci)
The Mona Lisa also has a different name. What is it? (La Gioconda)
When was it painted? (1503 to 1519)
Where is it? (Louvre Museum, Paris)
• Tell students that the Mona Lisa is the most famous painting in the world. Can they name other famous paintings?
• Give students the Worksheet and ask them to complete Exercise 1 individually. Students check answers in pairs. Correct with whole group.
• In pairs, students complete Exercise 2. Allow them to search on the Internet, if available, or assign as homework. The goal is to have students search for some information regarding the chosen painting and expose them to its cultural aspects such as when they were painted, where they are today, and maybe some curious fact about them. Encourage students to use the graphic organizer and adjust it to their fi ndings. For more information on how to use Graphic Organizers: https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/article/graphic-organisers.

Teacher’s Notes
ObjectiveRaise student’s awareness of the different styles of important painters and encourage the use of graphic organizers.
Suggested Procedure
• If you have a projector available in your classroom, download the images of the paintings from the Internet to use during the lesson.
• Reproduce the graphic organizer below on the board.
Life skill background
Cultural awareness is all about recognizing and understanding that we all have different values shaped by our diverse cultural backgrounds. What we consider to be “normal” behavior in one country can be entirely different in another, and respecting this allows us to develop in both our personal and professional lives.
