Management are in the process of converting to the National Standards.

Once this is completed training will be provided on all standards.

Below is an extract of the National Standard 3:

Individual Outcomes

The intent of this standard is to promote person-centred approaches to service delivery

whereby individuals lead and direct their services and supports.

Services used by people with disability are expected to be flexible and tailored to each

individual’s strengths and needs, and delivery positive outcomes. This includes an

individual’s disability as well as the need for services to competently recognise and respond

to issues related to age, gender, culture, heritage, language, faith, sexual identity,

relationship status, and other relevant factors.

Achieving individual outcomes requires collaboration between the individual and service

provider to ensure active choice and decision-making. This means a joint effort based on

mutual respect rather than the service making all the decisions. A focus on individual

outcomes includes individuals and services working together to review progress against

planned and measurable outcomes.

The standard also recognises the potential role, with the individual’s consent, of families,

friends, carers and advocates on planning, delivery and review, with the individual’s

consent. It encourages active dialogue between an individual, their families, friends, carers

and /or advocates and a service regarding the nature of the service or supports provided,

with a focus on the minimal restrictive options.

The standard emphasises the importance of:

People with disability leading and directing their supports with support from family,

friends, carers and advocates (with consent);

Service planning, implementation and review being based on individual strengths,

needs and life goals;

Collaboration and dialogue;

Responsiveness to diversity; and

Minimal restrictive options.

The shop pulled up a chair and cleaned

out the bookroom.

This gorgeous woodbox was a custom make order taken in

the shop and made by woodies. It’s now travelling around Australia in a camp

trailer

Camp Fire Wood, was subjected to some very

tough testing in April, Rough and bumpy dirt

roads, over 3900kms in the back of a 4WD,

testing the bags and packing style. Verdict :

Recycled Mattress frames, (part of the resource

recovery project) make a very warm camp fire on

cool outback nights!

Patrick got to quality check a

recycled chair repair before it went

to its new owner. There’s been lots of paper folding jobs of late, always

providing great variety to the working week.

You can make a difference?

Our fundraising and volunteer efforts go directly towards improving the

lives of people with disabilities. The work and care provided by volunteers goes a long way to help them lead full and rewarding lives and to take on their own valuable role in society. Our volunteers and supporters tell us they find it immensely rewarding to know that they are making a difference at a very personal level. Interested in volunteering? Why not call into the Administration office in

Smith Street (up the staircase beside the shop) for a information pack today.

Threads have been very busy during April and May, we have been making new products for Colour and Spice for mother’s day,

And some lovely lavender bags for a local shop. As well as continuing to make bags to send to Western Australia and to Brisbane.

All girls have participated in the making of these bags.

We have still been very busy with lawns all though they have started slowing down with the cooler weather. A big thanks to Tom for helping us with our lawns wishing you all the best with your new job. We have had our worker’s committee meeting and as chairperson we have Gavin Larkins and as Mowhawks rep John Edwards as Secretary Dale Conway. As we get closer to the cooler winter we hope we to going avocado picking.

MOMACS NEWS!

Momacs have been busy processing this month, we have been making chocolate stock for shop, and flavoring nuts for current customers. We are excited about the new building that is going in for us as it will help us process nut quicker.

WOODIES NEWS! Woodies have had a good month with plenty to keep us busy. Timber recycling has been a great odd job for everyone to keep on the go, the recycled timber we are stockpiling is for the various products woodies produce. Plenty of rubbish removal jobs throughout the Macleay, where we come across some great second hand products that are sold through our shop. The list goes on, from donation pickups, carting mattresses from Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour, car washing, always plenty of pegs and still organising our new workshop.
