SIMPLE MACHINE

A simple machine is a tool that helps make work easier.

Simple machine allow us to use less force to make easier or faster.

There are seven kinds of simple machines;1. Wheel and axle 5. Gear

2. Lever 6. Inclined plane

3. Wedge 7. Screw

4. Pulley

Wheel and Axle

1. A wheel and axle is made of a rod called the axle, attached to the center of a wheel.

2. The wheels turn around the axle.3. A wheel and axle move or turn an

object.4. The wheel is usually bigger than the

axle.5. This can reduce the force needed to

do work.

Simple of wheel and axle

Lever

1. A lever is a simple machine made of a bar.

2. The lever moves back and forth on a point. The point is called fulcrum.

3. The fulcrum supports the lever.4. Lever helps us to move objects.5. The object that we move is called a

load.6. The force needed to move is called

effort.

Examples of tools using the lever

A Pulley

1. A pulley is a rope or chain wrapped around the edges of a wheel.

2. Pulley move an object up, down or sideways. They help to reduce the amount of force needed to lift a load.

3. Pulley also helps to move an object to a place that is hard to reach.

Examples of pulley

Wedges

1. A wedges is made of two inclined planes that come together.

2. Wedges are used to push or split object apart.

3. The bottom part of an axe is wedge. It used to split the piece of wood into two pieces.

4. A knife is used as a wedge to cut a piece of bread.

Example of wedges

Gear

1. A gear is a wheel with jagged edges like teeth.

2. Gear are used to change the speed or direction to one another.

3. When one gear turn clockwise, the other gear turns anti-clockwise.

4. However, there are gears that rotate in the same direction like bicycle.

5. Gear come in different sizes, the big and the small gear.

Gear

6. When the big gear turns once, the small gear turns many times.

7. Therefore the small gear turns faster than the big gear.

Example of tools using gears;

Inclined plane

1. An inclined plane is simple is a simple machine with flat surface.

2. One end of an inclined plane is higher than the other end.

3. Inclined planes help people move object to higher or lower place.

Examples of a inclined plane

Screw

1. A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a rod.

2. A screw is used to hold objects together.

3. Examples of tools using screws are;
