BMT WBM o�ers a range of expert services to assist legal and insurance investigations.We have extensive expert witness experience in legal and insurance matters covering a broad range of technical issues, but mainly related with industrial accidents and machinery failures and stormwater and coastal �ooding. Our clients include insurance companies, legal �rms, loss adjusters, engineers and managers for industrial facilities, ports and mines. We have been involved as expert witnesses and in accident investigations in a range of industries including bulk materials handling plant, mobile plant, process plants, high speed machinery, industrial, road and rail accidents.

Peter is a senior associate at BMT WBM with over 35 years’experience performing varying roles which include expertwitness services, detailed design, design auditing and projectmanagement for large strategically important projects. Peterhas a detailed knowledge of the codes and practicesgoverning the safe design and operation of large plant formines and ports equipment.

Steve is a senior associateat BMT WBM with over 30years’ experiencespecialising in the design,operation, maintenanceand refurbishment ofheavy materials handlingplant, conveyor systems,port related equipmentand mining relatedequipment.

Len is a senior associate atBMT WBM with over 40 years’experience specialising indesign and reliabilityassessment experience inlarge machinery equipment asused in the mining andelectrical power generationindustries. His particular areasof expertise include thedesign and upgrades of large

pumping and hydraulic systems.Len has extensive experience in root cause analysis ofmechanical equipment, including component failureinvestigations. His wide engineering experienceincludes ‘expert witness’ report investigations, on-siteproblem solving for operational reliability issues andon-site project management of major fabrication,construction and commissioning works.

Hamish is a senior engineer at BMT WBM with over 15 years’experience specialisingmechanical design, analysis,structural inspection anddesign audits. He has in depthknowledge of liftingequipment, cranes, largematerials-handling plant andspecial-purpose machinery.Hamish has both legal and

John ParkerBE (Mech) MIE AustPrincipal Engineer

John is a senior engineer at BMT WBM with over 40years’ experience. John has detailed knowledge related to the design, operations and maintenance of large mobile plant used in the mining industry.John’s independent expert witness experience includes aproject for the operator of a failed motor shaft which wasoriginally driving a large (2500 HP) machine. The projectinvolved a detailed technical analysis, load measurement and detailed technical report for submission to an inde-pendent expert for mediation. He also acted as expert witness for the designer of a large trenching machine which has operated in Western Australia. The project involved detailed analysis of the bucket wheel, conveyor and support systems, and preparation of a detailed report for the designers legal �rm for use in a pending court action.

Neil has over 33 years experience in engineering and is an acknowledged expert in �ooding, stormwater and coastal processes. He has worked with the Planning and Environment Court Qld, Land Court Qld, Supreme Court Qld (damages actions), Land & Environment Court NSW, Commissions of Inquiry (various States) and has provided many expert peer reviews. Neil was heavily

involved with the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry with reports for six local authorities for LGAQ and also provided expert advice for Ipswich City Council. Neil was also the independent hydraulic expert to the Queensland

Government for the North Bank Project.He has worked on major infrastructure projects as a Hydraulic Specialist

including Sydney Third Runway, Sydney Harbour Tunnel, Gateway Bridge and Arterial and several coal ports in Queensland and in Indonesia, Power Stations in Queensland and Thailand, hydro-electric schemes in PNG and port dredging management atCairns, Townsville, Weipa and Mackay.

Philip is a Senior Engineerwithin BMT WBM’s WaterEngineering andEnvironment Group inVictoria. He has beeninvolved in the waterindustry, in Australia andinternationally, for over 15years and has specialist skillsin hydrology and hydraulics,with a focus on �ood

modelling (�uvial and coastal), hydrology, andassessment of �ood mitigation options.

Recently he has been involved in providing thetechnical input into the Queensland Government’sPolicy on the assessment of increased �ood risk dueto climate change.
