  • Teaching is my 2nd career and I LOVE it! I have a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education and I am currently working on obtaining my Educational Specialist degree. I am Gifted Endorsed, Special Ed certified, and STEM certified. This is my 7th year of teaching. I am married and we have three children, a 6 month old grandson, a dog, and a cat. I love to read, sew, and be with friends & family.

  • Students begin to arrive at 7:15. The tardy bell rings at 7:45. They unpack, make a lunch choice, do morning work, read, and take AR quizzes. This is the time to give me transportation changes, notes, and money from home. Please be sure all money is in an envelope and labeled. Please send a healthy snack with your child each day.

  • Students will participate in Guided Reading groups, Whole Group instruction, Literature Circles, and Small Group center activities. Successmaker will be used. Students should be reading at least 20 minutes each evening and need to have 10 new AR points every grading period. 10 AR points are required for the AR party.

  • Everyones favorite time! Lost 2 Dojo points: Sit out 5 minutesLost 3 Dojo points: Sit out 10 minutesUnfinished work due to time spent unwisely must be finished at recess.

  • You are welcome to join your child for lunch. If you bring in birthday treats, they will be served at that time. Please note that we have both peanut and tree nut allergies in our class.Thanks for not bringing in outside food.

  • In our study of Grammar and Writing, we will focus on types of sentences, punctuation marks, proofreading, mechanics, parts of speech, and applying new grammar knowledge to our writing. Writers Workshop will be instrumental in our writing instruction.

  • Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes and is dressed appropriately on PE days.Our class is divided for Specials. Each class and the schedule is posted in the classroom by the door.

  • Welcome to MES Second Grade Music!

    We learn about music through singing, playing instruments, movement, and games!Our instruction is based on the General Music Georgia Performance Standards.Students will attend music classes once per week and should dress comfortably. Donations of sanitizing wipes are welcome!

  • We will learn about Georgias first people, Georgia as a colony and as a state, Civil Rights in our state, prominent people in Georgia history, economics, and what it means to be a good citizen.

  • Homework and Spelling Contracts go home on Friday. Work is not due until the following Friday. Students do not have to do homework over the weekend!Please make sure your child reads for at least 20 minutes each night.

  • Email is usually the best way to reach me. I will respond as soon as possible. You can also write in the agenda, but please remind your child to tell me about it so that I dont discover it at 2:00. Please check folders and sign agendas daily. Newsletters will be posted on Fridays. I am always happy to meet with you.

  • Our tentative plans are to have two field trips this year. Information about our first trip will come home soon. Please be sure to promptly return your childs information and money. Chaperones are chosen by a drawing system.

  • Our room parent is Mrs. Pillittere. Mrs. Elliott is our PTA parent, and our Fun Friday parents are Mrs. Whaley and Mrs. Barry. Our Box Tops parent is Mrs. Griffeth. Thank you in advance for supporting and assisting them this year.
