Important:  Removetheprotectivefilmaroundthe60WMagSafePowerAdapterbeforesettingupyourMacBookPro.

Step 1: Plug in the 60W MagSafe Power Adapter to provide power to the MacBook Pro and charge the battery.MakesuretheACplugisfullyinsertedintothepoweradapterandtheelectricalprongsonyourACplugareintheircompletelyextendedposition.InserttheACplugofyourpoweradapterintoapoweroutletandtheMagSafeconnectorintotheMagSafepowerport.AstheMagSafeconnectorgetsclosetotheport,you’llfeelamagneticpulldrawingitin.

Toextendthereachofyourpoweradapter,replacetheACplugwiththeACpowercord.FirstpulltheACpluguptoremoveitfromtheadapter,andthenattachtheincludedACpowercordtotheadapter,makingsureit’sseatedfirmly.

Step 2: Connect to a wireless or wired network. Touseawirelessnetworkwiththebuilt-in802.11nWi-Fitechnology,makesurethewirelessbasestationisturnedonandthatyouknowthenameofthenetwork.AfteryouturnonyourMacBookPro,SetupAssistantguidesyouthroughtheconnectionprocess.Fortroubleshootingtips,seepage62.

AfteryoustartSetupAssistantonyourMacBookPro,youcanleaveitmidprocesswithoutquitting,movetotheothercomputerifyouneedtoupdateitssoftware,andthenreturntoyourMacBookProtocompletethesetup.

To set up your MacBook Pro:1 InSetupAssistant,followtheonscreeninstructionsuntilyougettothe“TransferInformationtoThisMac”screen.

2 Doabasicsetup,asetupwithmigration,ortransferinformationfromaTimeMachinebackuporotherdisk:

 To do a basic setup,select“Don’ttransfernow”andclickContinue.Followtheremainingpromptstoselectyourwiredorwirelessnetwork,setupanaccount,andexitSetupAssistant.

 To do a setup with migration,select“FromanotherMacorPC”andclickContinue.FollowtheonscreeninstructionstoselecttheMacorPCyouwanttomigratefrom.YourMacorPCmustbeonthesamewiredorwirelessnetwork.Followtheonscreeninstructionsformigrating.

 To transfer information from a Time Machine backup or another disk,select“FromaTimeMachinebackuporotherdisk”andclickContinue.Selectthebackuportheotherdiskthatyouwanttomigratefrom.Followtheonscreeninstructions.

Ifyoudon’tintendtokeeporuseyourothercomputer,it’sbesttodeauthorizeitfromplayingmusic,videos,oraudiobooksthatyou’vepurchasedfromtheiTunesStore.Deauthorizingacomputerpreventsanysongs,videos,oraudiobooksyou’vepurchasedfrombeingplayedbysomeoneelse,andfreesupanotherauthorizationforuse.Forinformationaboutdeauthorizing,chooseiTunesHelpfromtheHelpmenuiniTunes.

Putting Your MacBook Pro to SleepIfyou’llbeawayfromyourMacBookProforonlyashorttime,putittosleep.Whenthecomputerisinsleep,youcanquicklywakeitandbypassthestartupprocess.

To put your MacBook Pro to sleep, do one of the following: Closethedisplay. ChooseApple()>Sleepfromthemenubar.

 Pressthepower(®)buttonandclickSleepinthedialogthatappears.

 ChooseApple()>SystemPreferences,clickEnergySaver,andsetasleeptimer.

NOTICE:  Waitafewsecondsuntilthesleepindicatorlightstartspulsing(indicatingthatthecomputerisinsleepandtheharddiskhasstoppedspinning)beforemovingyourMacBookPro.Movingyourcomputerwhilethediskisspinningcandamagetheharddisk,causinglossofdataortheinabilitytostartupfromtheharddisk.

 Waitafewseconds.Ifthecomputerdoesn’tsoonstartup,shutitdownbypressingandholdingthepower(®)buttonforabout8to10seconds.Disconnectallexternalperipheralsandtryrestartingbypressingthepower(®)buttonwhileholdingdowntheOptionkey.Whenyourcomputerstartsup,clicktheharddiskicon,andthenclicktherightarrow.Afterthecomputerstartsup,openSystemPreferencesandclickStartupDisk.SelectalocalMacOSXSystemfolder.
