Stage three will require further funding to remove the rest of the trees from the northern bank in that loca- tion, which Landcare have committed to sourcing. MACARTHUR NEWS

The next General Meeting of the Macarthur Advancement & Development Association Inc.

Wednesday 11th April. 7.30pm at the Macarthur Senior Citizens rooms

On Sunday 26th March the Eumeralla Landcare

group held a meeting on the riverbank preceded by a

BBQ lunch. Steve Jordan (Animal Control Technolo-

gies (Australia) Pty Ltd, talked about fox control using

the Canid Pest Ejector which specifically targets foxes

and wild dogs. The ejector has been developed to

deliver toxin directly into the target animal’s mouth.

Steve gave a practical demonstration of setting up and

arming the device. Landowners who would like to

know more about this particular method of eradicating

foxes can contact Steve on 0458 266 823.

The Eumeralla Landcare group has been working

with MADA to remove feral trees from the river and

riverbank in the vicinity of the old Angling Club shel-

ter and some time was spent discussing this ongoing

project. The first stage involved ringbarking and

applying poison to trees in the river and on the south-

ern bank, work that was carried out by the Green Army

and financed by Government funding. In the second

stage feral trees were removed from the northern bank

earlier this year but was curtailed when funds ran out.

Stage three will require further funding to remove the rest of the trees from the northern bank in that loca-

tion, which Landcare have committed to sourcing. The completion of this stage will then allow Landcare and MADA to begin a revegetation programme. At

the meeting it was agreed that River Red Gums and Wooly Tea Trees will be planted along the fence line on the northern bank. It is anticipated that, given that

funding is available for the removal of the remaining trees, the revegetation stage will commence in Spring.

Music in the Vines

Music in the Vines 2017 was held in perfect weather. The later finish time allowed people more flexibility with both

their arrival and departure times, so a steady stream of arrivals was evident for most of the day. The Management Committee and their volunteer helpers did a magnificent job setting up

and the venue, with its’ views out over the vines, was an abso-lute picture. Well done everyone on another great event!

What an amazing season the Macarthur Cricket Club have had with all sides represented in Finals. Unfortunately, we were unable to come away with the wins, each and every player presented themselves with sportsmanship and have done the Club proud so congratulations to all players on achieving all that they have this season. We look forward to seeing everyone back next season and hope to welcome more.

Everyone Welcome

Macarthur and District Lions Club

March was a very busy month for our members: on Friday 3rd and Sunday 5th we catered at the camp draft. Bacon and egg rolls, steak sandwiches and sausages were all very popular, along with tea, coffee and cold drinks and lots of homemade slices. Thanks to the camp drafters and public for your support again this year.

The following weekend members and a large num-ber of helpers fronted up for 4 days of cleaning the Shebeen Marquee and also the Speakeasy Bar. This is our club’s biggest fundraiser and without the sup-port of non-Lions we would not be able to fill the roster (33 people). So THANK YOU once again to everyone who helped us.

Two of our members organized and ran our region Youth of the Year contest. The winners will move

on to our District Level on the weekend at Ocean Grove. Thanks to Lesley and Bill for all the work they put in to running the event at Portland.

Our club will be selling tea, coffee, scones and pike-lets down from Joe’s shop on Sunday April 2nd from 7am for the Murray to Moyne Bike Riders. Plenty for everyone, come down and support your local Lions and see the bike riders as they ride through our town heading to Port Fairy.

An early reminder that we will be holding our Market again on Sunday September 24th 2017, please put the date in your diary. If you would like to book a site, contact Christine on 5576121 or [email protected].

A big thank you to all who supported us this year, these people make our club so successful.

Thank you to Archie Buck (aged 10) who played a great game against Willatook. Archie has participated

in our coaching clinics. We love seeing juniors come through our club.

Junior Coaching Clinics

Our Junior Tennis Coaching was a big success as well with 20 children enjoying being coached by a quali-

fied coach from Warrnambool Tennis Centre. Big thankyou to Sarah Shearsmith and Max Ramsden for

initiating the coaching clinics and co-ordinating each Saturday. We will be considering another clinic in

October 2017, if parents would like to keep that in mind. Watch this space.

Also a big thank you to all parents who have bought their children to our clinics and supported our club. We hope the children have enjoyed the coaching and got something out of it These children could be our future club players.
