Step 7: Configure your Mac Pro server with Server Assistant.ThefirsttimeyouturnonyourMacProwithMacOSXLionServerinstalled,ServerAssistantasksforsomebasicinformationthatLionServerneedsinordertostartupandconnecttothenetwork.BereadytoprovidethefollowinginformationthefirsttimeyouturnonyourMacPro:

 Anaccountnameandpassword. Anorganizationalnamethat’suniqueinyourcompany. Ahostname,whichcanbeforyourlocalnetworkonly,foryourlocalnetworkandVPNaccessfromtheInternet,oranInternethostnameyoupurchasedfromadomainnameregistrar.

 Detailednetworksettings,includingIPaddress,subnetmask,andDNSservers.ThenetworksettingsmaybeprovidedbyyourInternetrouteroraserveronyournetwork.Ifso,itshouldbeconfiguredtoprovideyourserverthesameIPaddressallthetime(staticmappingorDHCPreservation).

ForhelpwithServerAssistant,clicktheHelpbuttoninanypane.

Customize Your Desktop and Set Your PreferencesYoucaneasilymakeyourdesktoplookthewayyouwantusingSystemPreferences.ChooseApple()>SystemPreferencesfromthemenubarorclicktheSystemPreferencesiconintheDock.SystemPreferencesisyourcommandcenterformostsettingsonyourMacPro.Formoreinformation,openHelpCenterandsearchfor“SystemPreferences”orforthespecificpreferenceyouwanttochange.

 Ifyouhaveconnectedadisplayandyoudon’tseeanythingonyourscreen,restartyourMacPro.Holddownthepowerbutton(®)onyourMacProfor5or6seconds,untilitturnsoff.Pressthepowerbutton(®)againtorestart.

 Ifyouseeablinkingquestionmarkonthescreenoraseriesofflashesfromthestatuslight,seeChapter4,“Problem,MeetSolution”onpage75.

Shutting Down Your Mac ProIfyouwon’tbeusingyourMacProforanextendedperiod,shutitdown.
