Mac & PC Shortcut Key Reference 

The equivalent keys for both Mac & PC including other important key commands 

Control (PC) = Command (Mac) 

ALT (PC) = Option (Alt) (Mac)  

Right mouse click (PC) = Control + Click (Mac) if mouse does not have right mouse click option 

Enter (PC) = Return (Mac)  

Backspace (PC) = Delete (Mac)

The below basic shortcut keys are a listing of shortcut keys that will work with almost all PC computers and software programs. It is highly recommended that all users keep a good reference of the below short cut keys and/or try to memorize the below keys. Doing so will dramatically increase your productivity. 

Shortcut Keys  Description 

Alt + F  File menu options in current program. 

Alt + E  Edit options in current program 

F1  Universal Help in almost every Windows program. 

Ctrl + A  Select all text. 

Ctrl + X  Cut selected item. 

Shift + Del  Cut selected item. 

Ctrl + C  Copy selected item. 

Ctrl + Ins  Copy selected item 

Ctrl + V  Paste 

Shift + Ins  Paste 

Home  Goes to beginning of current line. 

Ctrl + Home  Goes to beginning of document. 

End  Goes to end of current line. 

Ctrl + End  Goes to end of document. 

Shift + Home  Highlights from current position to beginning of line. 

Shift + End  Highlights from current position to end of line. 

Ctrl + Left arrow  Moves one word to the left at a time. 

Ctrl + Right arrow  Moves one word to the right at a time.

To make Print Screen work, you must save an image of what's displayed on‐screen to the clipboard and then paste it into a document where it can be printed. 

1. Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard.  2. Open an image editing program, such as Microsoft Paint, MS Photo Editor, or Adobe PhotoShop. (Note that you 

can also paste images into PowerPoint or Word) 3. Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.  4. If prompted to enlarge the image, choose Yes.  5. Use your image editor's crop tool to crop out unnecessary portions of the screen shot.  6. Go to the File Menu and choose Save As.  7. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the image.  8. Type a file name for the image.  9. Select a file type. 10. Click the Save button. 

TO CAPTURE AN ACTIVE OR SELECTED WINDOW ONLY Hold the Alt key down while pressing Print Screen to capture only the active window. Repeat the above process. Newer operating system application such as Windows 7 offers a program called “snippit” for screen captures.  Click on Windows>Programs to look for the application.

How to PRINT SCREEN (Grab Utility) on Mac Computer 

 

Command + Shift + 3 Captures the whole screen 

Command + Shift + 4 Captures certain areas of the screen    

If you want to do a screen capture for a particular application window, you can follow this

• Switch to the screen that you want to do screen capture 

• Hold down Apple key ⌘ + Shift + 4 and release all key 

• Now, You will see the mouse cursor will change to + 

• Press the space bar once 

• You will see the mouse cursor change to a camera 

• Now you can use the camera to select which application window to screen capture 

Once finish, you will see a picture file in at your desktop. That’s the screen capture picture!
