GlobalProtect VPN Client Introduction

The GlobalProtect VPN Client creates a Virtual Private Network (VPN)

connection between your computer and Mount Sinai Medical Center’s network to

maintain the confidentiality of private data. The GlobalProtect VPN Client

provides an easy-to-use solution for secure, encrypted access through the

Internet for remote users.

Before You Begin

You will need the following to run the GlobalProtect VPN Client:

A computer running Mac OS

An active Internet connection

Have the ability to install software on your Mac

Your MSMC issued Username and Password

Apple ID and Password for App Store

I. Installing the GlobalProtect VPN Client

Step 1 - Navigate to the following address in the Safari web browser

https://vpn.msmc.com

Step 2 - Login to website by entering your MSMC provided network credentials on the

Username and Password fields.

Step 3 – Select the Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent link.

Step 4 – When download is complete click on the Show downloads button located

on the top right of the Safari browser. Double click on the GlobalProtect.pkg

file to launch the GlobalProtect installer.

Step 5 – Click Continue on the Install GlobalProtect window.

Step 7 – Click Continue again on Install GlobalProtect window.

Step 8 – When prompted please enter your computer administrator Name and

Password.

Step 9 - Enter your MSMC provided network credentials on the Username and Password

fields.

Step 10 – Enter vpn.msmc.com in the Portal field and click Apply.

Step 11 – If successful you will receive the below message stating The installation was

successful. Click on Close to complete this process.

Step 12 – This concludes the GlobalProtect VPN Client installation process. Proceed to section

II. Set up Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac OS to gain access to the MSMC

applications.

II. Set up Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac OS

Step 1 – Go to the App Store

Step 2 – Type “Microsoft remote desktop” on the top right search bar and install the

Microsoft Remote Desktop App .

Step 3 – Go to the Launchpad to find the Microsoft Remote Desktop application and

click on the icon.

Step 4 – Click on Close on the What’s new dialog box to continue.

Step 6 – In the URL box enter the following link:

https://tsweb.msmc.com/RDWeb/Feed/WebFeed.aspx

Step 7 -- Enter your MSMC provided network credentials on the User name and

Password fields and click on Refresh.

Step 8 – If the information above was entered correctly you should receive a Successfully

loaded Remote Resources message. Close Remote Resources window to

access remote applications.

Note If you receive a message stating This host provides no Remote Resources, please

ensure there are no spaces following the URL and click on Refresh.

Step 9 – Congratulations, you have now completed the Set up Microsoft Remote Desktop

for Mac OS instructions. Proceed to III. Connect to the MSMC network using Mac

OS to access the MSMC applications.

III. How to connect to the MSMC network using Mac OS

Once the GlobalProtect VPN application has been installed, you may connect to the

VPN on-demand by following the steps listed below.

Step 1 - Click on the GlobalProtect VPN icon on the menu bar.

Step 2 - Click on Connect.

Step 3 - Enter your MSMC provided network credentials on the Username and Password

fields.

Step 4 – Wait approximately 15 seconds for connection. The GlobalProtect VPN icon on

menu bar will change to when connected.

Step 5 – Go to the Launchpad to find the Remote Desktop app and click on the icon to

open.

Step 6 – Click on Close on the What’s new dialog box to continue.

Step 7 – You should immediately receive a Successfully loaded Remote Resources

message. Close Remote Resources window to access remote applications.
