MAC VPN Client Installation 

Please note, the VPN client will be needed for off‐campus access.  METHOD 1: 

• Download the Mac (Intel or Power PC based) VPN client.   o Upon successful download, you will see the following screen. 

 

   

o Accept all defaults, and follow the installer wizard to completion.

•  Click on the VPN client in Applications\Cisco: 

  

• The program window will look like this:  

  

o The ‘Connect to:’ field must have vpn1.pepperdine.edu o Chose the group that pertains to you; either Faculty‐Staff, or Student. o Type in your Pepperdine domain Username and Password. 

 • Click Connect, to establish the VPN connection. • When successfully connected to the VPN, a small VPN icon will appear on the upper right corner 

of your desktop.

• When you finish your session and wish to disconnect from the VPN, select the VPN icon in the upper right‐hand corner of your desktop, and either disconnect or quit the application. 

   METHOD2: Please note: Method 2 should be used ONLY if the VPN software does not install properly on your machine.  

• Direct your browser to the following url: https://vpn1.pepperdine.edu/  

• Choose the appropriate Group: FacStaff or Student.  You can only login if you choose the group which applies to you.  

  

• Enter your Pepperdine domain userid and password, and click Login.  

• Successful login will bring up the disclaimer window:

• Click ‘Continue’ to finish the login and installation process. 

 

   Note: This will connect the VPN, AND it will download the application onto your MAC. 

• For subsequent connections, click on the VPN client in Applications\Cisco:

• When you wish to close all sessions and disconnect from the VPN, select the client in the upper right‐hand side of the desktop, and either disconnect or quit the application.

CUPC Client Installation for MAC Users  

Note to CUPC users:  if you are located off‐campus (i.e. outside of the Pepperdine domain), you must launch your VPN client to successfully connect with CUPC.  If you are located on‐campus (i.e. within the Pepperdine domain, you may launch CUPC without the VPN. 

  

• Download and install the CUPC software from the link titled ‘MAC CUPC Installation File’ on the aforementioned webpage, http://services.pepperdine.edu/it/phone/cisco.htm 

• This is a zip file. • Unzip the zip file.  Locate the ‘Cisco Unified Personal Communicator’ file, located under the 

‘CUPC‐Mac‐Ready‐To‐Install’ directory.   

 • Double‐click, or run the installation package. 

 • Follow the wizard to completion. • A successful installation will give you this: 

  

• In the Applications directory, you will find the CUPC client.

• Login, using your Pepperdine domain userid and password.  For the ‘Login Server’ field, enter presence.pepperdine.edu  

    

• After you successfully login, go to the CUPC preferences. (NOTE: if you should get an error message at this stage, please proceed to the “Work‐Around Section.”

o As shown above, when you select Preferences, a second window appears. Please select ‘accounts’ in this second window. For both the Web Conferencing and Unity Voicemail accounts, enter your Pepperdine domain username and password. 

o Select ‘save’ to save the changes.   Your CUPC client is now ready for use.  Please proceed to the “Using CUPC” Section.

Work‐Around   If you encounter the error message shown below, please carefully follow these steps:   

            

 

• Uninstall CUPC, by control‐clicking on the CUPC icon in your applications directory.

• In Finder, click on your user profile name (usually listed below desktop).  Delete the following folders.                 1)    \Library\Preferences\Cisco  

  2)    \Library\Cache\Cisco

• Direct your browsers to http://services.pepperdine.edu/it/phone/cisco.htm . 

• Download the ‘MAC CUPC Work‐around File’. 

• Move the file, designated by a CUPC icon, to your Applications Directory.  

 

• You should now be able to login to CUPC without error. 

 

Please proceed to the section on “Using CUPC.”
