New business books are making it into bookshops at a phenomenal rate

These books are making it onto our Clients desks at an equally fast rate

MAC Consultants cannot individually read all books available

Clients who work with us expect us to be ahead of the rest regarding best practice thinking

Case for the MAC Business Bookclub

The bookclub will provide the opportunity to address some of the challenges above in a unique and creative way

How will it work?

Members join on a voluntary basis for 1 year

Up to 25 members can join

As a member, you are provided with an allowance to buy books throughout the year

The books must be purchased and then claimed back from MAC

Meetings take place every 2 months in the MAC pub

– 2nd Thursday of each month

Books then become part of MAC’s library and individuals can take them out as they wish

Responsibility to the bookclub is to provide an overview of what you have read and complete a one page book summary on a template.

One-pagers will the be posted on the intranet to compliment knowledge management in MAC

Should relate to project work

Should relate to one of the MAC CoEs

Should be developmental

To guide people better there are recommended reading lists from “Fortune” and “Harvard Business Review” magazines

Guidelines for selecting books…

Structure for the first session on the 16th March …

1. Agree on the detail of how the bookclub works (ground rules)

2. Agree bookclub dates for the coming year

3. Discuss process for borrowing books (i.e. who to inform; must be returned at next bookclub; bookclub summary required etc…)

4. Book summary with discussion/Q&A (we will aim to do 6 reviews)

5. Nominate 6 members to purchase or review books in the following month
