  • Maag gear pumps forthe polymer industry

  • 2Serving the global polymer industry

Our worldwide, technical sales networkspans Europe, the Americas and Asia.Customers polymer processing ques-tions can be quickly answered by quali-fied engineers familiar with the local cul-tures of over 50 countries served by theMaag Pump Systems Textron Group.

    Technical consulting and servicesupport

Members of Maag Pump Systems Tex-trons global organization can respondto complex pumping problems with ef-fective solutions. Highly-trained, skilledservice personnel are available to assistwith installation, startup, and mainte-nance of Maag pumps on short noticeanywhere in the world. Genuine parts in-ventories are strategically located to as-sure quick availability, if needed.

    Polymer production experience

Maag pioneered development of gearpumps for handling polymers. Decadesof commitment for developing betterpumping solutions through research, in-cluding pilot plant and field applicationevaluation, have helped to maintainMaag Pump Systems Textron`s positionas the worlds leading manufacturer. Ourbest references are the countless pumpsystems successfully operating in poly-mer production plants today.

    From monomer to polymer

In many areas of processing and poly-mer chemistry, gear pumps are takingover the important tasks of deliveringand metering product. By virtue of theirefficient pressure building capability,Maag pumps enhance the economics ofthe process and the quality of the prod-uct.

Most polymers are produced by poly-merization in continuous or batch reac-tors. The polymers are usually synthe-sized in the form of high-viscosity meltsthat need to be treated gently in order toobtain high product quality.

Many reactors employ a gear pump fordischarging the polymer and conveyingit to further reaction stages, mixers orpelletizers.

Gear pumps are high pressure positivedisplacement pumps with exceptionallylong service life.

    Outstanding features include:

    Compact, easy-to-maintain design

Stable, predictable flowpatterneven at high pressure

Minimum polymer residence timeand temperature rise

    Low shear characteristics

    High volumetric efficiency

    Low energy consumption

    Screen Changers & Systems

Wil-Man brand continuous screen changers provide optimum filtration of most anymolten polymer and allow exchanging of the screens while maintaining constant pro-duction, while leaving the process virtually unaffected. You can choose from a wide-variety of models from continuous single and dual piston, with optional backflush, tobelt type systems for constant pressure. Maag also offers discontinuous piston andslide plate screen changers, with one or two screens for processes that can toleratean interruption during screen change.

    Filtration Systems & Elements

LCI and EFC brands offer large area simplex, duplex, and backflush type of filter sys-tems for polymers and monomers using our patented diverter valve technology withbumpless transfer capability.

micronex filter elements employ only the most select filter media, utilizing the latesttechnology in hard and soft sinter medias which promote longer onstream life withoutmedia migration or compression during normal operation.

    Heat Exchangers & Mixers

blendrex heat exchangers utilize mixing elements to enhance heat transfer to poly-mers and other highly viscous materials. Furthermore, the blendrex mixing elementsserve to eliminate hot spots, providing a very uniform temperature profile across thetube section.

blendrex motionless mixers can provide thorough mixing of flowing gases, high andlow viscosity liquids, powders, and pellets.

    Industrial Gear Pumps & Systems

Maag offers the greatest range of fluid handling pumps for difficult applications; fromwater-like fluids to melted polymers, with viscosities from 0.3 to 4,000,000 mPas(4,000,000 cP), with temperatures from -30 to 320C (-22 to 600F), and with pres-sures up to 350 bar (5,000 psi).

Maag also offers a sealless, magnetic-drive option that isolates toxic, flammable, andodorless liquids from the environment.

    Compounding Gear Pumps & Systems

Maag provides compounding systems for the polyolefins and thermoplastics market, such as LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, and PP. Maag has been the leading manufacturer ofgear pump systems for conveying highly viscous polymer melts for over 30 years. Inthe compounding field, the polyrex pump is the result of endless production-orientedresearch and development with OEMs and end users. Worldwide references in us-age confirm the polyrex as standard in resin manufacturing.

    Extrusion Gear Pumps & Systems

Maags extrex extrusion gear pump is successful in meeting process conditions, suchas viscosities to 30,000 Pas (30,000,000 cP), temperatures to 450C (842F), andpressures to 700 bar (10,150 psi). The rubbex gear pump can process elastomers incombination with a feeder unit for several types of rubber applications.

Maag offers several control systems for pump-assisted extrusion, including basic dis-crete instrumentation, or sophisticated PLC based versions capable of total line control. You can choose from an array of options, such as multiple heat zones, one button start-up, and AC or DC drive systems.
