    ARTILLERY AMMUNITION

Always on targetTMFor over 50 years, SNC TEC has been a leader inthe manufacturing and assembly of reliable,high-quality ammunition for a wide range of military applications. Supporting itsposition at the cutting edge of this keyindustry are three operating sites offeringcomplete integration of ammunition systems. Its Le Gardeur plant is a LAP (load, assembleand pack) facility handling the assembly ofcartridges and fuzes, while the St-Augustinplant produces necessary metal parts, includingbrass cartridges. Finally, components andcartridge assemblies are tested for compliancewith technical specifications in Nicolet wherethe company operates a GO/CO proofingfacility. SNC TEC also rely on a number ofcomponent suppliers manufacturingpartners who adhere to our strict qualitycontrol requirements.

An integrator of ammunition projectiles, propelling charges, fuzes and packagingsystems, SNC TEC is committed to deliveringproducts reflecting the highest standards ofquality, security and performance. It is thisstringency, from start to finish, which hasallowed the company to successfully meetthe demanding operational requirements of an international clientele for more than half a century.

...with long-rangeaccuracyIn response to the needs of our military and allied forces, SNC TEC offers a full rangeof 105 mm and 155 mm-calibre artilleryammunition. A critical safety factor, their HE fillings, which consist of TNT orComposition B, are produced in our melt andpour facility. Our R&D Department is furtherinvolved in the development of an IM fillingprocess for large-calibre ammunition.

Today, SNC TECs line of artilleryammunition includes High-Explosives,Illuminating and Smoke rounds as well asFuzes and Components.

M739 MechanicalFuze The PD M739 Point DetonatingFuze can be set in 2 modes:super quick (0.1 ms) and delay (30 to 70 ms). Producedeconomically in both small andlarge volumes, this fuze can beused on 105 mm, 155 mm and 8-in. howitzer weapon systems. Twoindependent mechanical devices activatedby setback and rotation meet MIL-STD-1316safety standards.

Artillery FuzesArtillery FuzesSNC TEC has been producing the M739mechanical fuze since 1984. It recentlystarted manufacturing the C32A1 multi-option electronic artillery fuze under licence from Junghans.

ComponentsComponentsIn addition to providing complete assemblies,SNC TEC can also provide components inresponse to clients specific needs.

C32A1 Multi-OptionField Artillery Fuze The C32A1 is an efficientelectronic fuze with 4 verypractical programmable operatingmodes: proximity (12 m), time (1 to 199.9 seconds), super quick (0.25 ms) and delay(within 5 ms). Extremely versatile,it can be used with 105 mm or 155 mmartillery ammunition and, thanks tolithium-battery activation (1,500 g), can befired at a low charge. In addition, its highlyreliable mechanical back-up mode ensures98% overall functioning.

The C32A1 fuze carries many impressivecharacteristics: Fuze programmable in proximity, time,

delay and super quick mode Manual programmability in proximity

or delay Mechanical back-up mode (delay)

ensuring 99.8% overall functioning 95% reliability in proximity mode Low-charge firing with lithium-battery

activation (1,500 g) No signal emitted in flight if programmed

for T-2 sec. flight before reachingtargeted area (using fuze setter)

Functioning under extreme weatherconditions ranging from -46C to +63C

    Short-term storage between -54C and +71C.

105 mm HE M1CartridgeSNC TEC manufactures the 105 mmHE M1 with the clients choice of TNT or Compo B filling. Thissemi-fixed type ammunition usesan M67 propelling charge that canbe adjusted incrementally to obtaindifferent ranges. This ammunitioncan be fired from most howitzers.

155 mm HE M107ProjectileDespite its unsophisticatedaerodynamic shape and erraticfragmentation, the 155 mm HE M107 is probably the mostwidely used of all westernartillery projectiles. Used forblast effect and fragmentation,it can be fired from mosthowitzers using the M3, M4 orM119 series of propelling charge.

105 mm RP SmokeXC160 CartridgeSNC TEC combined its expertisewith that of Buck NeueTechnologien to develop andmanufacture the 105 mm RPSmoke XC160, ammunition thatprovides greater concealmentthan the HC in a less toxic unit.Delivering efficient screening inthe visual, near and mid-infraredbands as well as part of the farinfrared band, the cartridge will be type-classified IAWSTANAG 4224.

Characteristics of the XC160 include: Smoke screen providing minimum

two-minute obscuration in the visual band Obscuring screen capable of concealing a

one-meter by two-meter wide radiatedtarget with minimum 40C thermalcontrast observed with state-of-the-artinfrared imaging devices

Functioning under extreme weatherconditions ranging from -46C to +63C

    Short-term storage between -54C and +71C

Shelf life of at least 10 years Used with standard M67 propelling

charge systems, charges 1 to 7 (up to11.2 km range).

155 mm ArtilleryAmmunition155 mm ArtilleryAmmunitionSNC TEC manufactures a complete line of155 mm artillery ammunition meeting therequirements of the Canadian Armed Forcesand other clients worldwide.

105 mm M314A3Illuminating CartridgeThe M314A3 is a semi-fixed cartridge.Carried inside the projectile is apressed illuminating compound and parachute unit. The candlesuspended from that parachuteprovides an average illumination of525,000 candela from 55 seconds to80 seconds. The cartridge case is the standard M14 type with an M67propelling charge.

105 mm M395 BlankCartridgeSNC TEC manufactures the M395Blank used for saluting orsimulating battlefield sounds.Consisting of a shortened cartridge, it is filledwith 0.77 kg of black powder retained by aclosing wad and fitted with an M1B1A2 primer.Detonation produces sound, flash and smoke.

155 mm SmokeHCBE DM45ProjectileThe 155 mm Smoke HCBE DM45is equivalent to the M116 familyof projectiles. Its shell interiorcontains 4 smoke canisterscarrying a total weight ofapproximately 10.9 kg of HC. In operation, it is fitted with a nose-mounted time fuze, which ignites an expulsioncharge of approximately 154 gof black powder.

The build-up of internal pressure on theprojectile baseplate serves to eject thecanisters. The result is a greyish whitesmoke that is generated within 30 secondsand lasts up to 90 seconds. The HCBE DM45can be fired with the M3, M4 or M119 seriesof propelling charges.

155 mm M485A2Illuminating ProjectileManufactured by SNC TEC, the155 mm M485A2 IlluminatingProjectile features a shellinterior containing a primaryexpulsion unit, canisterassembly and drogue parachute. The canister assembly, in turn, contains a secondary expulsioncharge, delay holder andilluminating compound as well as the main parachute. Its projectile has a base plugsecured by shear pins, while a time fuzeignites the primary expulsion unit. Theresulting pressure ruptures the base pinsand ejects the drogue parachute and canister. The drogue parachute and deployed finsserve to decelerate the canister and stopthe rotation. After approximately eightseconds, the secondary expulsion chargeignites the illuminating compound andexpels the main parachute. The illuminatingbody descends at a rate of approximately4.5 to 5 m/s, delivering 1 Mcd for 2 minutes. The 155 mm Illumination can be fired withthe M3, M4 or the M119 propelling charge.
