Property Modeling Overview

Property modeling is the process of filling the cells of the grid with

discrete (facies) or continuous (petrophysics) properties.

Property modeling is split into three processes.

Geometrical Modeling Facies Modeling Petrophysical Modeling

Geometrical Modeling

A process in which properties are generated using predefined system variables.

For most properties, no interpolation of input data is required and properties are

built based on the cell geometry. For some properties, input data are required,

e.g., Seismic resampling and Geobody modeling.

Facies Modeling

This is a means of distributing discrete data (e.g., facies) throughout the 3D

model. The modeling inputs include the upscaled facies well logs and modeling

parameters.

Petrophysical Modeling

Petrophysical modeling is the interpolation or simulation of continuous data (e.g.,

porosity or permeability) throughout the model grid. Input includes well data,

facies realization, variograms, a secondary variable, and/or trend data and various

user settings are available.

Three types of property filters

I-J-K filter Filters a row of cells in the I-J direction and K direction (1). With this filter, there also is a

Property Player (2), useful for QC of the grid.

Index filter Skips a user-defined amount of cells in I-J-K direction. Useful for viewing a fence diagram (3).

Value filter Applies cut off between selected values of the property (4).
