NO HOLDS BARREDBy M. A. SADANAND

No wonder that we require 75,000 judges more in thetiers of lower judiciary when we already have severalbrigades of them crawling over the land, aided and abettedby the snailing corps of adjournment stalwarts and sev-eral other kinds of warts to whom steeple-chase is adebilitating fiscal and physical tormentor which keeptheir kitchen fires burning.

Instead of recruiting more gun fodder for the Army, AirForce and the Navy and the other defenders of our land, let us have more of the black-robed gentry who knowwhat to look for in a pile of rubbish on their table and gothrough it like a hot knife through butter, based on puremerit and not on what a hired tongue spouts in court. Tosift the just from the false, without fear or favour, is whatthe government pays a judge for. If the grass is eaten atthe roots, the seeds wither and die, though seeminglyrevived at its upper journey into better stoked tiers. There too, more specialised rodents would nibble what isleft of the greenery and then, on the higher journey to thesuper experts, the final obsequies are performed makingthe old curse of some wise people in Karnataka ,”May youhave litigation in your family” come true.

As untruth and its votaries are having a field day, andlawyers are the dolled up servants of their clients who arethe seconds of the unlettered fighters of the ‘Jallikattubulls’, we the people of India, a free country, feel thatyou are entitled to get what you aspire for, whatever thelaw, being an ass, says. Defence Minister Anthony has acold not because New Delhi is frozen, but because he isunable to sleep over the matter of a birth date and nobodyis sure of it.

Honest Anthony is worried that, with so many enemieson our borders, who will sing or sting if General Singh goeseither rightly or wrongly! Rule of law is good if onlyeverybody follows it. Let’s see.
