Most advisors or counselors do not provide direct academic support to

students

Tutors provide direct academic support without advisor support or,

sometimes, knowledge

Enhanced Advisors (can be called Success Coach, Participant Engagement Facilitator [PEF], etc.) provide direct academic support when needed

Enhanced Advisor provides one on one tutoring and supports the work of the tutor

NOW: Local Case Study

Technical Math Tutoring

• Many students in Rhodes’ Industrial Maintenance apprentice cohort struggle with Technical Math courses

• Several students in a recent cohort sought academic support from Rhodes State’s tutoring center for Technical Math II

• At least one student required support beyond what was available in the tutoring center after failing the first Technical Math II exam

• The student was referred to Rhodes’ Success Coach (or Participant Engagement Facilitator) after discussions with their employer and Apprenticeship Coordinator
