Mission: To provide MNPS students grade 9-12, college access and career readiness resources to prepare for life after high school.
9th Grade Checklist: During the school year:
• Investigate college requirements and which high school classes colleges require you to complete.
• Take challenging classes. • What are your high school goals and what do you want to achieve in high school that
colleges are looking for? • Participate in meaningful extracurricular activities. Colleges value quality and depth of
involvement Summer:
• Read as much as possible, and read a variety of material. Reading builds your vocabulary and strengthens writing skills
• Take summer school/ dual enrollment courses to enhance your academic record • Prepare for the PLAN test. The national Merit Scholarship is a prestigious national award
for which you can only qualify for if you do well 10th grade checklist: During school year
• Take highly rigorous classes, including AP/IB/Honors level courses. What classes do you need as pre-requisite courses will you need for your junior and senior year

Summer: • Prepare for the ACT • Take summer/dual enrollment courses • Participate in summer enrichment programs offed by organizations and colleges. • Read as much as possible • If time permits, set goals for yourself. For example volunteering a certain number of

11th grade checklist: During the year:
• Take rigorous classes. • Meet with counselors and mentors to discuss your progress and future plans • Get to know your teachers in core subjects. They will likely be writing college
recommendation letters for you
• Take the SAT or ACT as early as you are prepared to take it. Depending on your level of preparedness, and if you want to apply early to college in the fall of your senior year, leave time to retake the SAT/ACT. We suggest taking the ACT or SAT no later than April or May.
o Register early so you can use fee waivers. IMPORTANT NOTE: Some colleges grant application fee waivers on the basis that you used fee waivers for your SAT/ACT. Take SAT Subject Tests. If you took the SAT, many colleges also require 2 Subject Tests.
o Check to see if the colleges you are interested in have specific requirements or recommendations. We suggest taking the Subject Tests in June (or May, if you are taking the SAT in June) in your strongest academic subjects.
• Participate in meaningful extracurricular activities. Take on a leadership role • Research colleges and prepare for the application process • Attend local college fairs • Put yourself on college mailing lists

• Meet with your counselor and mentor(s) to discuss your progress and future plans. Together, plan out how you will apply to college
