Welcome to the 33rd Annual Convention of the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology. It is our 50th founding anniversary, a significant feat indeed, brought about by the sacrifice and heroism of the leaders and members of PSMO.

As we face new challenges in our quest to give the best cancer care for all our patients, the organizing committee decided for this year to focus on the landmark trials for the top malignancies of our land. With the recent signing of the Implementing rules and regulations of the national integrated cancer control act, may this years’ theme provide the way for our society and the government in attaining the highest standard of quality care, “a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, patient and family- oriented approach“ to all cancer patients.

May the Lord with His loving hands continue to protect and support all health care providers, cancer patients and their families as well.

We welcome all of you and see you on Oct. 23 -25, 2019, EDSA Shangri-La. Let us gain more kowledge and celebrate with us for our 50th founding anniversary.

As we celebrate our society’s 50th anniversary, your scientific committee for this 33rd Annual Convention saw it fitting to look back at history and review the landmark trials of the last five decades that set the stage for the current standards of care for each type of cancer. From Beatson’s first discovery of oophorectomy to treat advanced breast

cancer to the latest scientific breakthrough in gene therapy, we will bring you the highlights of oncologic management in the last 50 years. The intellectual discourse you will be witnessing and taking part in is a collaborative effort of the whole society, with the guidance of the governing council, the tireless efforts of our fellows in training who developed the educational materials alongside our esteemed speakers and the dedication of your scientific committee members and PSMO secretariat. Together, we promise to bring you a scientific program like no other, with the ultimate goal of bringing this knowledge to where it matters - the halls of Congress, the elite offices of national health policy makers and in the privacy of your clinics as you make life-defining decisions with and for your patients.
