10The story

Space. A sea of darkness, dotted with countless stars.Among them, time always moves forward. Uneventfully. Silently. Endlessly. However, inside the darkness, terrible plots can take place without anyone

knowing. At the beginning of the 25th Century, the Federation of our star system was

attempting to establish a friendly relationship with the “Galactic Union”, the first intelligent aliens met in the history of humanity.

However, there were many within the Federation who mistrusted these unfa-miliar aliens, and refused any form of relationship.

Geist Nidoman, Colonel of the Federal Government Army, decided to take ad-vantage of the increasing dissatisfaction towards the Federation to further his ambition.

His plan was to incite the masses to launch a surprise attack, and seize pow-er during the ensuing chaos. However, the might of the Government Army proved too much for the rebels, and they were easily suppressed.

Geist Nidoman, the mastermind behind the revolt, disappeared without a trace and was never seen again.

Several years later, a certain event occurred in the Barnard System, the fur-

thest away from the Solar System. It was the rise of an organization known as VOID.Nobody knew where they came from, or what their objective was. Some rumors suggested that they were allies of Geist Nidoman, but whether

that was true or not was never confirmed.Their military strength was overwhelming. Barnard, Sirius, Rigel Kent were

conquered one after the other. The people began to refer to VOID as the Dark Conquerors.Fearing this situation might prevent the treaty with the aliens from being con-

cluded, the Federal Government placed a large bounty on VOID, hoping it would be enough to contain them.

One of VOID’s subordinate groups, the Solar Wind, is already rampaging

about our Solar System.Brian Wright, an A-Class Hunter, detected the presence of Solar Wind’s se-

cret fortress in Jupiter’s orbit. He decided to infiltrate their base on his own. However, the enemy’s resistance was stronger than he expected.Brian is now facing mortal danger, as more and more enemies are swarming

towards his position. An ominous thought crosses his mind.“I really messed up... This might be the end for me...”

This is where the game begins.

Sol System

Sirius System

Barnard System

Rigel Kent System

Sol System (our Solar System)Home of the Federation. In recent years it has been afflicted by a criminal organization called “Solar Wind”, who has built multiple secret fortresses in the system.

Rigel Kent System (Alpha Centauri)The star system closest to the Solar System.Like Sol, Rigel Kent has been developing as a relay to move into other star systems. For this reason, it is a good place to gather intel. There is a rumor about a plan to assassinate the galactic ambassador. The ruler of this system is the “Crimson Scorpion”.

Sirius SystemSirius, the brightest star in the sky.It is also known as Alpha Canis Major, or the Dog Star. This system is cur-rently under the rule of the “White Wolf”.It is said to be home to a black market where weapons and items can be easily acquired, but nobody knows where it is.

Barnard SystemThe star system farthest from the Solar System. For this reason, it is a dangerous place with little public order. This system is under the rule of VOID’s most trusted officer, the “Falcon of Barnard”, as well as the “Amazoness”.It is said that VOID’s giant battleship is often sighted, but this has never been confirmed.

VOID’s Great BattleshipA massive battleship, a size impossible to recreate with human technology.Nobody knows its exact location.

26How to play and hints First time players

should... prepare a blank disk (5"2HD) for storing your

save files. You will need it whenever you wish to stop playing.

Who is the main charac-ter?

You play as Brian Right, 28 years old. He is an A-Class Sniper (bounty hunter). He may be an ex-pert, but he often makes silly mistakes.

What is my objective? Fighting VOID's subordinates, who use their might to rule over many planets and other sec-tors of space, while trying to discover more about VOID, the real mastermind behind their actions.

How do I make prog-ress?

You must gather information by talking to peo-ple, receiving transmissions and analyzing intel cards. We recommend writing down the information you get so that you won't forget your objective.

What should I do in the beginning of the game?

First you must escape from the enemy base. Open the gate, steal an enemy starship and go out to space. Once you're out, you will get in con-tact with your comrades, and from there you willknow your next goal.

How do I level up? You will find "Meist" modders on many planets. You will be able to modify your Cruiser inside their shops. This will allow you to equip stronger weapons and other useful parts, increasing the Cruiser's performance. You can buy new weap-ons and parts from other shops.

How do I make money? You are a bounty hunter. You can make money by defeating enemies and collecting their boun-ties. You can also find money during your trav-els. Note that you will acquire more money by fighting in space as opposed to ground.

How do I talk to people? Conversations will be initiated automatically by entering houses, shops or moving next to people outside.

How do I go to other star systems?

You must use a warping device called Gravity Catapult to go to other star systems. However, you require a Travel Permit before you can use it.

Page 29: M ANU AL - RPGamers

27

How many weapons or items can I own at once?

The following are the most relevant numbers you should keep in mind. You can carry up to 80 units each of Homing Missiles, Thermonuclear Missiles, Deuterium Ores, Metal Ores, Heavy Element Ores. You can carry up to 40 Repair Units, and up to 20 Chaffs.

Battle (1) On the ground, combat will be initiated when you touch an enemy. In space, it will be initiated when you get within a fixed range of the enemy. You will know you are in combat as the BGM changes, and the color of the radar changes to gray.Combat takes place in MANUAL mode.

Battle (2) Enemies come at different levels of strength. You will need to get close to them in order to defeat them. Also note that you may have to fight multiple en-emies at once. Always be on your guard during your travels.

How do I leave a battle? If you can't defeat an enemy, or if you simply want to leave battle, on the ground you must look for a blinking wall (that is the exit), and touch it. Note that some enemy confrontations have no exit.In space, simply increase your speed and dis-tance yourself from the enemies to leave battle.

What should I do if I find enemies in space during auto-travel?

In that case, cancel AUTO and go back to MANU-AL mode. You should deal with the enemy as soon as possi-ble.

What weapons can rap-id-fire?

Your first weapon, the Particle Gun, cannot fire rapidly. The Quantum Laser and Gravity Wave guns how-ever can.

Can I use weapons and items in battle?

Yes. You can change weapons, replenish shields, as well as use other parts. Press ⏎ to open the Commands menu. You can also press XF1 and XF2 to change weapon.

What happens when my unit is damaged?

When you lose your shields, your vessel's [RA-DAR, ENGINE, NAVI, WEAPON, FUEL, CARGO] sectors may receive direct damage. If more than four sectors are damaged, it will be Game Over. For this reason, you should try to re-plenish your shields before they are fully deplet-ed. If one of your sectors is damaged, use a Re-pair Unit to fix it.
