LETTERS TO THE EDITORMTC buses circumvent approved routes

Sir, - Though the approved route for the buses leaving T.Nagar Bus Stand and going via Venkatnarayana Road /Panagal Park is via Burkit Road, some of the drivers of busroutes 13-A, 11-A, 27-C, to mention a few, circumvent this andinstead go via Dhandapani Street to reach VenkatanarayaRoad.

So the commuters waiting at bus stops on Burkit Road areoften left in the lurch.

Further, Dhandapani Street is not wide enough to take theload of bus traffic.

It also has a couple of residential complexes and a school, thereby putting the life of students at risk.

I appeal to the MTC officials to instruct its drivers to ply onlyon approved routes. - V. S. Jayaraman, 31 Motilal Street, T.Nagar

No speed breakers on busy Dr. Nair RoadSir, Dr. Nair Road, which connects Thyagaraya Road and

Vani Mahal, is a busy road throughout the day as both light andheavy vehicles ply on this road.

In spite of this there is not even a single speed breaker orzebra crossing to curb speeding motorists or regulate traffic.

Pedestrians, especially the elderly, find it difficult to use thepavements since they are not only narrow, but are blocked ata number of spots by either sign boards which are in the middleor by ramps of houses and commercial establishments.

Students of Holy Angel School located on this road find it verydifficult to cross the road and their life is always at risk as themotorists are least concerned to stop and give way to them.

I request the concerned authorities to install speed breakersat sensitive spots to regulate traffic and rid the pavements ofencroachments for the benefit of pedestrians. - R. S.Vaidyanathan, 50, Raman Street, T. Nagar.

Portion of Dhandapani Street in bad conditionSir, Pedestrians and motorists are put to great inconve-

nience and risk due to the bad condition of a long stretch ofDhandapani Street near its junction with Mahalakshmi Streetand Motilal Street.

Chennai Corporation workers have not re-laid the excavatedroad properly after completing the storm water drain work lastyear.

I request the concerned authorities to take immediate stepsto relay the damaged portion of the road.- K. Sundar, 5,Dhandapani Street, T. Nagar.
