Inside this issue:
Hello everyone. March is here and hopefully some warmer weather. I am looking for-
ward to riding without all the extra clothes on. March brings some good riding
events for us also. Our first ride is on March 12th and it is a new member ride. This
ride will end up at LVHD for the Smokin Ass Chili Cook-off that our dealership is
sponsoring. On the 13th we have a day ride to Laughlin/Bull Head City for lunch at the
Avi casino. The 16th we have a mid week ride to parts unknown. On the 19th is our
overnighter to Beatty, dubbed Kuslers, Beatty overnighter. Then on the 24th we have
a meet and eat at Steiners on LV Blvd and Windmill. From the 24th to the 27th our
primary board will be off to Reno for HOT training again this year. I am looking for-
ward to seeing everyone that can make these events and getting some good riding in.
I ended up doing something in Febru-
ary that I didn’t want to do. I canceled
the San Diego overnighter. I found
myself watching and listening to the
weather reports the whole week before
the ride. The more I watched and lis-
tened, the worse the weather seemed
like it was going to be. The rain fore-
cast just for Saturday, the day we were
supposed to leave, was at 80% chance
of rain all the way to San Diego for the
whole day. Rain was forecast for San
Diego Sat. and Sun. My apologies for
this but my concern for the safety of
the group out ways taking any chances
on going. We will have more rides and
overnighters with some great weather.
The dealership is putting on the
Smokin Ass Chili Cook-off this month.
They would like to see the group get a
couple of teams together to enter this
event. The cost to enter is only $20.00,
but the reward could be $500.00 if you
make some great chili. Here are the
cook-off rules.
COOK-OFF RULES
• Traditional Red Chili is defined by the International Chili Society as any kind of meat or combination of meats
cooked with red chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients, with the exception of BEANS and PASTA
which are strictly forbidden.
• $20 Entry Fee per team/contestant. Proceeds from the entry fees will be donated to charity.
• $500 Cash Prize for Best Smokin’ Ass Chilli. Awards will also be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place.
• Chili must be cooked from scratch at home and brought on site the day of the cook-off. Each cook must pre-
pare 1-3 gallons of chili to be judged.
• The chili container must be a crock-pot or electric roaster to maintain the chili at a temperature of 140 degrees
or higher.
• Each team of contestants must supply all ingredients, utensils and accessories necessary to cook their chili.
LVHD will supply judges, an area for each contestant complete with tables/chairs, spoons, tasting cups, and
electrical outlets.
• Contestants are encouraged to wear team shirts.
• Each contestant will be assigned a “contestants number” by the chief scorekeeper and be given a container in
which their chili will be collected at the time of official judging.
• Judges will be told they should vote for the chili they like best based on the following major considerations:
good flavor, texture of the meat, consistency, blend of spices, aroma and color.
• Judging will be based on score cards which are numbered. 80% of the final tally will be from the judges score
cards. 20% will be scorecards from “People’s Choice.” Invite people to come and vote!
I am a great chili eater but not a chili cooker. I will leave that up to someone that knows how to cook chili.
I know I say this a lot but, here it goes anyway. Without the officers of the group volunteering their time, the
group would just not function. You really do not know how much it is appreciated that you take time to help get
things done. This brings me to the new officers for the group. Tom and Penny Carver are our new ambassador
and photographer. Thanks for stepping up to help out. I would also like to thank Donna Yada and Savana
Cupp for being photographers for the group and to Barbie Walker for returning as an ambassador. Thanks
again.
To all members. If it’s been awhile since you have rode with the group or you have just been busy, take a day
and come out and ride with us on one of our rides again. So far we have been having a great time on the rides
and overnighter. You never know, you might find the joy and love of riding again. I think things are more re-
laxed and everyone seems to be having fun. Get the bike out, dust it off and come join us for a ride.
The past couple of days I have had my bike in the dealerships service getting a new rear tire, some new brakes
and getting the oil changed. I walked right by my bike before I even noticed it was even my bike. THEY
WASHED IT!!!!!!!!!! I can actually see through my windshield now. I park my bike outside so it will not be
clean to long. Can’t wait to get some road dust back on it also.

Photographs are such a great way to remember events in our lives. Our SNHOG Online Photo Gallery is also a great way to
share the fun we have as a Chapter with friends, family and anyone who is skeptical about joining our Chapter. All you have
to do is browse the gallery for a few minutes and will quickly realize we ride and have fun all year round!
Although Beverly Kusler, Deena McClain, Zachery Edge, Lene Mogavero and Kenn Wynn are the "photographers" for the Chap-

SOUTHERN NEVADA HARLEY OWNER’S GROUP
FEBRUARY, 2011 GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
P A G E 4
Continued on next page
Report on the Nevada Sate Rally was given by Robert Baldwin. He encouraged chapter members to sup-
port and participate in the rally, which is scheduled April 14-16. Registration is $50/per person, and you will
receive a shirt, pin, and ability to participate in poker sun, scavenger hunt, tour of the Coroner’s office, and
other events in and out of town. Forms for registration were available at the meeting. He asked for volun-
teers to assist with parking, pre-registration, and registration.
Registration is mail-in only, and pre-registration ends 2/24. He encouraged members to support the event,
participate, and make sure this is the best State Rally ever. More information is available at
www.nvstaterally.com. Ruth Ray & Matt Garland had their numbers drawn so each will receive a free reg-
istration for the rally.
Gary Childers, Assistant Director, introduced the new members. They include Fred Pitsner, who rides
an Ultra Classic, Chuck and Angela, who ride a trike, and Peggy Lesley, who rides a 2011 Sportster.
Chuck announced that they work as USO volunteers at McCarran, and invite any members to join them.
Jay, our Merchandise manager, announced that he has communicated with riders from England who would
like to exchange pins with someone from our chapter. Please contact Jay if you are interested.
Treasurer’s report was given by Tracy Torres. Our starting bank balance was $2468. We had $5323 in dues
and intake, and spent $652, leaving an ending balance of $7139.06.
Jim Larson, our Lead Road Captain, introduced our newest Road Captain trainee – Mark Hasty. He is
a previous Road Captain who is rejoining the team. Jim’s report included a reminder to all riders that they
must be careful at all times when riding with the group, especially after the accident that occurred on the ride
to the Longstreet Inn. Remember to watch around you in all directions, ahead, behind, and to the sides. You
are responsible to rider your own ride for safety, including the 2 second rule of spacing.
Sandi Edge, our activity director, reviewed the February activities. On 2/12 all are invited to participate in
Robert and Betty’s wedding, starting at 1000 at Red Rock Harley Davidson. The following day, Sunday
2/13 is the Ladies of Harley ride for breakfast at Rosie’s Den in Arizona, leaving from Albertsons Boulder
City (ABC) at 0800. The midweek ride will be on Tuesday, 2/15, leaving again from ABC at 0900. 2/19
starts the overnighter ride to San Diego, staying at the Western.

First order of the meeting was to present Ropes and rockers to new photographers
and ambassadors. New photographers include Debra Acosta, Savannah Cupp,
and Penny Carver. New ambassadors include Tom Carver, with Barbie Walk-
er receiving back the rope of ambassador.
Details on this were on the Overnighter list previously published. Wednesday, 2/23 is the February Meet &
Eat at El Patron restaurant. Last activity of the month will be the annual Bordello run on Saturday 2/26 leav-
ing from Las Vegas Harley Davidson at 0800.
Dave prepared to draw the winners of the $50 ride ticket drawing reminding everyone that they must be pre-
sent at the meeting to win, and that when you write your name on the ticket it must be readable.
Meeting was adjourned at 1930, when all were invited to join in the birthday celebration with cake.

From a Road Captain...
By Roger Ellison
I would like to introduce myself to all of our faithful SNHOG chapter
members. My name is Roger Ellison. I have been a member of SNHOG
since May 2007. I have been riding for 30 years plus or minus a few
years to raise the children. In April of 2010 my wife Willi and I were returning from the 2010 Nevada
State HOG Rally in Pahrump when she said to me that we need to get an Ultra. She didn’t have to tell
me twice. We road straight to Red Rock Harley Davidson and bought a 2010 Ultra Classic Limited.
Now that I had a bike that would allow me to volunteer for the Road Captain training program, I sub-
mitted my application in June of 2010 and I was accepted as a trainee. I was pleased to see there was
an intense training program associated with being a Road Captain. I completed my training in De-
cember 2010. I would like to thank all of our Road Captains for helping me in completing my RC train-
ing and earning my position on the Road Captain team. I learned a lot during my training period. I
really have more to learn to be an “expert” Road Captain, but because the entire Road Captain team
was so helpful in my training, I feel very comfortable with my new skills in my role as a Road Captain.
Now that we are in the middle of the cold season for riding I would like to remind everyone of how we
all need to be ready for any and all temperatures. I have a story of a ride that Willi and I took back in
2006 where we were ill prepared for the drop in temperature.
On Memorial Day weekend 2006 we were riding from Los Angeles to Fresno, CA. The temperature in
the San Fernando Valley was in the high 50s when we left for our trip. This trip would take us through
the Grapevine which is at an altitude of almost 6000 ft. Before we reached the summit the temperature
plunged to a frigid 34 degrees. We were wearing our summer / spring gear at the time. By the time we
reached the summit we were chilled to the bone. We stopped at a fast food stop and stayed there for
about 30 min trying to warm up. We bundled up with a few more layers and we finally warmed up
when we got into Bakersfield. On the return trip we encountered in the same stretch of highway tem-
peratures in the mid to high 90s. So on the same weekend we had both extremes of temperatures. Big
lesson learned to check accurate weather reports and bundle up with layers that can be removed if
needed to cool off.
The final lesson learned is to have clothing on the bike for any and all temperatures and clothing for
rain and clear days too. We now make sure our bike is well stocked for all types of weather and road
conditions.
My suggestion to everyone is to check the weather and road conditions of their route prior to starting
a ride. I also recommend that you pack your ride with a wide variety of clothing for all types of weath-
er no matter what time year it is winter, spring, summer, or fall you should always be ready for any
and all temperatures and weather conditions.
Roger Ellison
Road Captain
Well here it is the start of March 2011 and spring riding is right around the
corner. So you ask, what does that mean for our rides; more rides in better
weather with great destinations and fellowship.
Warmer weather means less warm clothes but we still must remember that
the weather can change on our trips and we still need to be prepared. Re-
member to dress in layers but maybe not as much.
With 2 months of riding behind us, I want to remind us all about a few rid-
ing configurations we constantly ride in. We always hear to “Ride your own Ride” but do we really know
what the road captains mean by that. It simply means to ride within your abilities of your skill level and your
confidence. We want everyone to have a great riding experience and we can do this riding within our means.
The staggered riding position and spacing seems to still be having some small issues. Remember to keep a 2
second interval between the bike in front of you and 1 second from the bike in the staggered slot.
Now with that said, “Ride your own Ride” with proper spacing. If your ability makes you ride a little slower,
that’s fine, but if you slow down to smells the roses, that cause gapping that the group doesn’t need. The rid-
ers in the group get frustrated with the gaps and the road captains work harder to now keep 2 groups safe
instead of 1 great group.
So be considerate of your fellow Harley-Davidson riders and RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE.
If you have any questions about any of the rides or riding positions, don’t hesitate to ask one of the road cap-
tains for information or to just talk about the rides.

Editor’s Note…….by Mario Torres
Well it has been a truly unique month! Highlights include Robert &
Betty’s Fabulous HOG Wedding, celebrated at the RED ROCK Harley
Davidson Dealership! The Valley of Fire Ride, The LOH Ride to Rosie’s,
a midweek ride to Mesquite, a cancelled San Diego Overnighter, (For
some –a rain delay)! The El Patron Meet & Eat, and a cancelled
Bordello Thunder Run, a snow & rain delayed ride officially. Forgive me
for the few other highlights I may have missed. Anyway the year is new,
the sun still comes out, and we still need to ride, so the challenges are
still before us this year. So take heart, be bold and ride anyway!

Hi Everyone! Yep, I finally went on a ride Thursday and it was great, the
weather was perfect. My Sporty wasn’t running very well so I wasn’t
going to ride with the group, however - thanks to Sonny - I was his pas-
senger. There were 18 bikes and 20 people. We were off and buzzing
down I-15 towards Mesquite. Took the Bunkerville exit for a nice little
laid back ride to a little bar & grill named Playoffs. Whether you had
breakfast or lunch…it was good eats. Thank you to the Road Captains
for a fun day and a job well done: Speedo, JB and Bubba. by Cinda Giesing

Because so many of us have this red glow just below our ears and above our shoulders and no red blooded “red-
neck” would even think of missing a NASCAR event, the chapter will be temporarily out of commission due to
fast cars and loud noises March 4th, 5th and 6th. Enjoy the races.
Tuesday March 8th is a fantastic once a month event. This is one of our most popular events of the month. . You
will have a perfect opportunity to introduce yourself to one of your new best friends, so come early. Oh, we call
this event our “February General Membership Meeting” at LVHD starting at 6:30 PM, see ya there.
Saturday March 12th we will be going on another one of our famous “New Member” rides. This event is open to
all members and especially our “New Members”. The purpose of the event is to show off for the new folks.
We want to have all our new members turn out to experience our riding style and what SNHOG group riding is
all about. It will be a short local ride, about 50 miles or less. Oh, I almost forgot, we all get to talk about our-
selves a little too. Let’s meet at RRHD @ 9:00 AM for the briefing and the get to know you stuff.
Sunday March 13th to celebrate the coming of Day-Light-Savings (wait a minute, it’s lunch time and I am hungry)
we are (OH CRAP!! Now I got s#%* all over the keyboard) going to have a “Day Ride” to Bullhead City for
lunch. ( I gotta clean this mess up) We are going to meet at Albertson’s in Boulder City (thank heavens lunch is
over and this computer is still working). Be gassed up, no I mean your bikes needs to be gassed up and kick-
stands up @ 9:00 AM. I bet the Road Captains will want to give another briefing so be there a little early (8:30).
Don’t forget set your clocks ahead 1 hour Saturday night.
Wednesday March 16th Speedo is going to have another one of his famous mid-week rides. He still won’t tell me
where he is going but he did say he wants to meet at the Silverton Hotel @ 9:30 for a fully gassed departure
@ 10:00 AM. You should really plan on being there, he is full of surprises. I have heard from reliable sources,
sometimes, he will actually ask the participants where they want to go. Interesting concept.
Saturday March19th we are going to celebrate the Third Annual Kusler Beatty Overnighter and Bar-B-Que. Usu-
ally Beatty is just a short day ride, but for some reason the Road Captains seem to get a little lost and we get to
see some fantastic scenery on the way to Beatty. The Bar-B-Q has become one of the “don’t miss” events of
the year (if you just can’t make the ride, you may want to make plane reservations and meet us there). We are
going to start this event with a little gab-fest about 7:30 AM @ the Silverton Hotel parking lot and a fueled,
kickstands up departure @ 8:00 AM. I told Speedo I am getting older now and I need my nourishment, so he
agreed on a breakfast stop shortly after we get started, so you may not want to eat a big breakfast @ home.
(more snooze time, goody) The hotel info is: The Exchange Club Hotel; 109 Main St., Beatty NV; 775-553-
2333. The rooms seem to go fast, so get yours early. Sandi says that sometimes it’s more fun to bunk with a
friend of your choice, you may want to ask her what she meant. I do know she had a great time on that trip last
year.
Saturday and Sunday March 26th & 27th the Chapter’s Primary officers will be attending the National HOG’s
H.O.T. training seminar in Sparks Nevada. There have not been any rides scheduled for that time so you may
want to keep an eye on the member’s blog section of the web page for FYI rides. FYI rides may not be attended
by our Road Captains and FYI’s are not a Chapter event, just a good time to ride with a few personal friends.
The primary officers will be back the following weekend with a bunch of new information to make our Chapter
and events even more fun and exciting.

Friday and Saturday April 1st and 2nd our esteemed Road Captains have been chosen to assist with the Po-
lice Motorcycle Competition. This event is a competition between hosts of motor officers from all parts of
the country. They compete in several different types of slow riding events. These officers demonstrate some
of the very best in motorcycle handling. The event is being held at the Suncoast Hotel beginning at 9:00 AM
on Friday and 8:00 AM on Saturday and is open to the public. This is another must see event. If for nothing
else it makes you feel better when you see the real pros picking up their rides just like we do.
Saturday and Sunday April 9th and 10th is our Tory Utah overnighter. This event in April can be a little spicy.
We have our team of weather experts on call to keep an eye on the conditions in Tory. I have talked to my
own weather expert; he is going to do a bit of a dance to secure some great weather for that weekend. We are
going to gather at ISK @ 6:30 AM for the briefing and landing gears are up at 7:00 AM. The hotel infor-
mation is:

Tuesday April 12th is a very unique event for April, you know, the one we’ve been waiting for. The one we get
together and tell stories about each other and eat cake. You guessed it, it’s the April General Membership
meeting. It will start a 6:30 PM at Red Rock Harley Davidson. It’s OK to be there a bit early to talk with
your friends and have a chance to meet the new members. Do you remember how it made you feel when
someone came up to you and introduced themselves when you were new. Go ahead, make someone else’s
day for them, I dare ya.
Friday and Saturday April 15th and 16th is the dates for our 2011 Nevada State HOG Rally. We have a lot of
our Chapter members working their butts off this year helping to make this the best year yet. I can hardly
wait to see what those folks are going to use to keep their pants up with, you know, not having a butt and all.
We are a little short on the details for the different events and activities, so just keep that weekend open and I
will get you the details next month.
Sunday April 17th It’s time to take a short ride, talk about yourselves a little and make some new friends. Yep
you guessed it, it’s a New Member ride. As all of you seasoned members (polite for “Old”) know this is a
ride for all members, but special attention is given to the members that are new to the Chapter. We want them
to come out and see what we’re all about and how we conduct our group rides. It gives our Road Captains a
chance to demonstrate to the new folks just how safe they can make a group ride. We’ll be gathering at Red
Rock Harley Davidson @ 10:00 AM. The Road Captains will give the detailed briefing and we will be on
our way. I believe the Las Vegas Harley Davidson will be buying lunch when we return from our ride

Tuesday April 19th is the day and time for us to get together and do the second most favorite activity we
do. Are you tired of guessing what that may be? If you guessed it was that thing Speedo does in the
middle of the week, Wrong. If you guessed it’s a Meet-n-Eat you are correct. I know it is going to start
at 6:30 @ TBD. If you get there before I do call me and give me directions. I will try not talking
with my mouth full this time. (I hope you got a better visual than I did)
Thursday April 21st Now it is time for that Speedo thing. For all of you that have a mid week day off or
are retired, put your butt on your Harley and join the fun. This month Speedo wants to meet at TBD.
I have all the confidence in the world he has a great day planned, if not he is on the spot now.
Saturday April 23rd We are going to try to put on a couple more pounds. We are going to take a scenic
ride to the beautiful Caliente Nevada for a great Hamburger. Holy Cow, did you feel that, I just got a
visual on that burger and put on a pound already. What-do-you–say we all meet at ISK @ 9:00 AM
for a fueled and landing gear up departure. This is not an exception, there will be a briefing you’ll want
to attend at 8:30 AM and chit chat at 8:00 AM.
Saturday April 30th This is the event that for some reason seems to be the first day that the temperature
will get into the triple digits. I think it’s because my ex-wives get together and want me to suffer walk-
ing around looking at all the vendors at the Laughlin River Run. As always the Chapter is having a one
way ride to Laughlin (I’ve been called one way before but it had nothing to do with a ride or maybe it
did, I don’t know). We will ride to Cal-Nev-Ari as a group, we will be leaving Albertson’s Boulder
City @ 8:00 AM. Briefing at 7:30 and a full tank departure at 8:00.
From all the SNHOG officers, we think you are a fantastic group of people. THANK YOU ALL for mak-
ing the officer’s positions such a pleasure. We hope to see you at one of the events soon. Just reach out
and poke a rope and say HI.
