Director General of Police andresident of 8, KannadasanSalai, T. Nagar, passed awayon March 25.
He was 76 and had been along time resident of T. Nagar.
He belonged to the 1962batch of the Indian Police Ser-vice. Sripal served as ChennaiCity Police Commissioner from1980–85 and became DGP(Tamilnadu) in 1991 and heldthe post till his retirement in1996.
The infamous ‘Auto Sankar’serial murder case was solvedduring his period as DGP.
Sripal was a prominentmember of the Jain commu-nity in the State and was in-strumental in creating a full-fledged Department of Jainolo-gy in Madras University. Hebecame the Chairman of theResearch Foundation forJainology. He served in theState Planning Commissionand was also a visiting profes-sor at Madras University.
He is survived by wife Ka-malie Sripal, son Tarun Sripal,Shreyas Sripal and two daugh-ters Supriya Sripal and HemaSripal.
Kamalie Sripal is the editorof the Tamil magazine ‘Goku-lam Kathir’.

Chennai Corporation re-moved water hyacinth andfloating garbage from the riveron March 27 to allow free flowof water.
According to PWD sources,it was decided to allow the civicbody to remove the vegetationin the waterways during a re-cent meeting on combating theproblem of mosquito breeding.As the PWD did not have suf-ficient funds, the civic body wasrequested to take up the clean-ing operation.

engineered concrete topping on Arulambal Steet (T. Nagar)holds good for roads in Nandanam Extension and other areasin the city as well. The road design is pedestrian unfriendly. The2-3 foot pathways that have been left without topping at thesides are uneven and risky to walk on. Pedestrians are forcedto walk on the road, thereby risking their lives.

Where is my Aadhar Card?Sir, At a time when the residents are eagerly awaiting to
receive the Aadhaar cards after their ‘unforgettable’ experi-ence of standing in queue for hours to register their bio-metricdata, the recent report that many of the issued Aadhaar cardsremain undelivered at post offices for want of correct addressesonly exposes the insensitivity of the Census Department.
How can anybody count upon an identity card without properaddress? Even though the department has outsourced thework, the responsibility of the final product still rests with thedepartment.
How could the department approve such shabby work doneby the outsourced agencies before issuing the final card?
Recently, I went to link my Aadhaar card issued by theUIDAI with NPR based one. The assistant at the camp leftout my initials while feeding my name. When I questioned him,he told me that he has been following this method only. Mypleadings were of no avail as he went about his job. The hugepublicity that Aadhaar will be the one pass comprehensivecard has proved to be wrong.
It has just become another identity card like the voter id andration cards with errors and omissions.

Sir, The huge garbage bin which was for a number of yearskept next to Srinivasa Theatre (West Mambalam), a nonresidential area, was recently moved to the corner of K.R. KoilStreet, which is a residential area. The foul smell from thedisposed garbage is affecting the nearby households and hasalso led to a proliferation of mosquitoes. It is also attracting anumber of scavenging street dogs which are becoming a men-ace to the residents. Further being at the corner, the bin is alsoblocking the road margin, causing a hindrance to vehiclesturning at the corner.
