The section of Dr. Nair Road, T. Nagar between Thyagaraya Roadand Gopalakrishna Street has been closed to traffic for the past weekdue to repair work in the sewage line.
The traffic from G. N. Chetty Road has been diverted viaGopalakrishna Street and that from Thyagaraya Road via Boag Road.
A Metrowater official said that the soil near the pipeline that hadloosened due to long time leakage has since entered the pipeline therebyblocking the flow of water. A trench has been dug to locate the leakagesand the work will be completed soon, he said. He said that temporaryarrangements have been made to redirect the flow of sewage water intothe unblocked inlet in the pipeline from the residential and commercialapartments nearby.

railway tracks adjoining the3rd and 4th platform inMambalam Railway Stationwas converted into a gardenduring the mass cleaning cam-paign conducted in October andis being well maintained. Morethan 100 saplings were planted,including crotons and flower-ing plants. They have grownwell and give a pleasant look.
An official said that the gar-den will also be fenced off soon.
Earlier the spot was litteredwith garbage and plastic waste.

to give advance warning to approaching vehicles atnight at the busy junction on GST Road (NH 45) nearPerungudi.
A big inverted red plastic pot fitted inside with apowerful bulb has been placed atop a traffic signal postat the junction to warn the motorists. The bright redglow emanating from the pot is visible from a longdistance.
A traffic official said that existing light from thetraffic signal is not bright and vehicles often brake atthe last moment, thereby leading to accidents.
Since the glow from this pot is visible from a longdistance, it serves as an advance warning to drivers toslow down well before reaching the junction, he added.

of LPG (DBTL) scheme willcome into effect from Feb. 15,2015. This applies to consum-ers who are buying domesticLPG cylinders from IOC(Indane Gas), BPCL (BharatGas) and HP (HP Gas).
Both Aadhaar and non-Aadhaar card holders can jointhe scheme.
Consumers having Aadhaarcards should fill in forms 1 and2 which can either be obtainedfrom the LPG distributor ordownloaded from the websitewww.mylpg.in. Those withoutAadhaar cards need to fill informs 3 and 4. The filled informs should be submitted to
the bank and the LPG distribu-tor respectively. The names ofbanks with its branch ad-dresses where a consumer canopen the account are also avail-able in the website.
The current price of a do-mestic 14.2 kg LPG cylinder isRs. 404.50 and its retail priceis Rs. 863.50.
Consumers who do not regis-ter by Feb. 14, 2015 will haveto pay the retail price prevail-ing at that time. A consumercan only avail 12 cylinders in ayear at the subsidized rate.
Under the DBTL scheme, aconsumer will have to open abank account with designatedbranches of select banks
wherein the subsidy amountwill be credited directly.
Consumers will get one timepermanent advance in theirbank account prior to buyingthe first retail priced LPG cyl-inder. In effect, the consumerwill have to pay the retail priceat the time of delivery. A graceperiod of three months fromFebruary has been given toconsumers to join and avail thesubsidy for the past 3-monthpurchases as well. However,consumers who join after May15 will lose subsidy on all theirpast 6-month deliveries.

After retirement, he func-tioned as a Trustee of ThiruVi.Ka - Dr. Mu. Va EducationalTrust.
He is survived by his sonsNatarajan, Mohan and Jaya-kumar and daughters Vijaya-lakshmi and Usha, and grand-children and great grandchil-dren. Jayanthi Natarjan, se-nior Congress leader and formerUnion Minister, is his daugh-ter-in-law.
He was cremated on the af-ternoon of Dec. 5.

EB, fire personnel rescue kitten stranded a top light postSir, In the early hours of Nov. 30, I noticed that a small kitten which had
climbed a street light post on our street and was struggling to come down.The frightened kitten kept on mewing incessantly. Out of fear, it only keptclimbing higher even as some morning walkers tried to bring it down. Ithad climbed very close to the top and was at a mortal risk of gettingelectrocuted. I immediately called the Fire Service station. OfficerJayakumar immediately reached the spot and alerted the EB fuse calloffice. EB staff immediately switched off the power. ‘No Parking’ rule violated blatantly due to police inactionSir, It has become a mockery to have several ‘No parking’ signboards in
various places of the city, including North Crescent Road, T. Nagar whereI reside. Vehicles, especially the ones with ruling party flags, park rightunder the signboard thereby blocking the carriageway and causinginconvenience to motorists. The same is the case on G.N. Chetty Roadnear Vani Mahal and adjacent to the flyover wherein cars are parked onthe pavement forcing pedestrians to walk on the busy road therebyrisking their lives. Since a number of concerts are scheduled in VaniMahal this season, the condition is going to get worse for the patrons likeme. An unauthorised vendor has also put up a tea stall under the flyoverendangering pedestrian safety as his customers gather at the stall andblock the road. (resident of Flat C, KarthickApartments, 14/20, PallavanStreet, Nesapakkam) receivedthe ‘Sakthi T. K. Krishnas-wamy Award’ instituted byMahatma Gandhi Library(Saidapet) for his outstandingcontribution to short storieswriting for nearly three de-cades.
Ranganathan has pennedover 900 short stories underthe pseudonym of ‘KousalayaRanganathan’.
His short stories have beenpublished in various maga-zines. Ranganathan said thatmost of his stories are based onincidents in day-to-day life.
He said his wife Kousalyaalways used to pen the finaldraft of the stories, as she hada better handwriting, beforesending it to the publishers.
He said that he has also lenthis voice to a number ofcolourful characters in dramasbroadcasted over All IndiaRadio.

TNHB plot on P.T.Rajan Salai fencedto preventencroachments
The vacant plot under theownership of Tamilnadu Hous-ing Board on P. T. Rajan Salai,near its junction with Dr.Ramasamy Salai (K. K.Nagar), was fenced last weekto prevent encroachments.
The plot was being misusedby miscreants for nefariousactivities. Following repeatedappeals from nearby residents,TNHB took the initiative tofence the plot.
A building housing the TNHBcomplex in the plot was demol-ished some years ago due to itsdilapidated condition.
