In fact the systemtakes account of all information con-cerning the roads when calculatingthe route, advising the best way. However, it does not take into con-sideration traffic conditions or suddenobstructions or any other inconve-nience.

The Lancia navigation systemhelps driver while he drives, bysuggesting vocally or graphically, the optimum routing to reach hispreset destination.

WARNING: Navigation systemsuggestions do not excuse driverfrom his full responsibilities dueto his driving behaviour and to hiscompliance with road and othertraffic regulations.

The responsibility for road safetyalways lies with vehicle driver, andit falls on him in any case.

All manoeuvres must be carried outabiding by the highway code, regard-less of the advice given by the navi-gation system. Should you leave therecommended route, the I.C.S. systemwill calculate a new one for you andsuggest it to you.

RADIO FUNCTIONS

RDS system

The radio system integrated in theI.C.S. makes it possible to receiveRDS (RDS = Radio Data System) sig-nals in the UKW range.

With the RDS system the broad-caster can insert additional informa-tion (station name or messages) suit-ably modulating then with the radiosignal. This information is then re-ceived by the RDS system and shownon the display.

AUTO BEST function

When receiving a radio channel withthe AUTO BEST function it is possi-ble to obtain a low signal/noise (S/N)ratio, automatic seeking and tuningon alternative frequencies where thechosen radio station is broadcastingwith a better S/N ratio. When seekinga new tuning frequency broadcastingmay be briefly interrupted temporar-ily.

The AUTO BEST function is acti-vated automatically when the radiofunction is selected or when a stationis selected through a choice key andwhen the cassette player or CD playeris working.

All the RDS broadcasters show theirname or message on the display. Thecurrent reception frequency is onlydisplayed if information about thename of the station tuned is not.

EON (Enhanced Other Network)

The radio integrated in the I.C.S.system can receive EON information.

The signals concerning the EON in-fotraffic system make reception pos-sible from radio channels, on whichyou are not tuned at the moment, in-formation about the traffic and roads, interrupting the programme of thechosen station. This function, avail-able to RDS channels can be disabledaccording to preference.

Example: programme set RTL -RAI infotraffic programme

If the infotraffic function is enabledwhile listening to a programme on theRTL station and in that moment atraffic bulletin is broadcast on the RAIchannel, the system moves automati-cally from RTL to RAI. At the end ofthe traffic bulletin it automatically re-turns from RAI to RTL.

Radio main function page

The main functions are arranged soas to allow the clear and simple dis-play of information concerning the ra-dio system. When the radio is operat-ing (CD or CC not activated) thewave band, name or frequency of thecurrent station are displayed. The listof memorised stations and the selec-tion modes “TP” (Infotraffic), “Mute”,“Regional”, “Autostore”, “Frequency”and “Settings” are also displayed. Inthe lower part of the display showsgeneral information such as the time, frequency or other current status in-formation.

Page 45: Lybra ICS

“TP □”

The traffic information box (TP) de-activated indicates that you do notwant to receive traffic bulletins. Sta-tion seeking will no longer indicatewhether it is a TP broadcaster and CCand CD playing will not be inter-rupted by traffic information.

“TP ”

The traffic information box (TP) ac-tivated with knob 20 indicates thatyou want to receive traffic bulletins.Automatic seeking selects a TP broad-caster and displays this prerogative:CC and CD playing will be inter-rupted by any traffic bulletins. Theabbreviation “TP” appears on theMAIN page.

TP bulletins in progress can be in-terrupted pressing the knob 14. Vol-ume adjustment of a TP bulletin is in-dependent of the audio source (radio,CC, CD) and is obtained by turningknob 14 during a TP bulletin.

“mute”

The “Mute” function can be selectedonly if TP is enabled and a TP stationis set. When the “Mute” function isactivated only traffic bulletins will beheard. The radio “Mute” function isdisabled turning knob 14.

“Regional”

The “Regional” function is automat-ically displayed if the radio program-ming of a determinate station isbroadcast locally. In this case theAUTO BEST RDS function does notseek a station with a high S/N ratiobut continues to broadcast the localchannel selected. Reception of localchannels can be deactivated selecting“Regional” again making it possible tomove to different local stations de-pending on the best S/N ratio.

51

GENERAL INFORMATION

The integrated navigation system(NAVI) allows you to reach the se-lected destination through visual andacoustic instructions. Use of the nav-igation system is fast, convenient, safe, and above all highly flexible be-cause you can call up already pro-grammed destinations or referencepoints such as hotels, monuments, public structures, fuel stations orLancia Dealerships.

The instantaneous vehicle position isdetermined by the GPS system(Global Positioning System) installedon board. The on-board GPS systemis fitted with an aerial and a receptionmodule integrated in the I.C.S. sys-tem. The system dynamicallyprocesses satellite signals, those of asensor on a wheel and of the gyro-scope integrated in the navigationcomputer.

The Lancia navigation systemhelps driver while he drives, bysuggesting vocally or graphically, the optimum routing to reach hispre-set destination.

IMPORTANT: Navigation systemsuggestions do not excuse driverfrom his full responsibilities dueto his driving behaviour and to hiscompliance with road and othertraffic regulations.

The responsibility for road safetyalways lies with vehicle driver, andit falls on him in any case.

WARNINGS

– GPS reception is difficult undertrees, among high buildings, in multi-storey car parks, in tunnels and any-where satellite aerial reception can behindered.

– The GPS system needs about 15minutes for activation if it is con-nected to the vehicle battery.

– The GPS system needs a few min-utes to determine the new position ofthe vehicle if it is turned off and thevehicle is moved with the system off.

– In the lack of satellite information, the system uses the information lead-ing from the gyroscope and from thesensor at the wheel for temporarydata analysis.

– The GPS satellite aerial must notbe covered with metal or damp ob-jects.

Page 56: Lybra ICS

52

The instantaneous vehicle position isidentified in the CD-ROM and shownon the display together with the topo-graphic characteristics of the areamemorised on the CD. Access to thedata on the CD-ROM requires wait-ing a few moments in the map dis-plays.

The system constantly compares thedata leading from the wheel sensor, the GPS aerial and from the pro-gramme to automatically compensatechanges in temperature, pressure orany other occurrence which can fal-sify position detection in any way.

WARNINGS

– Precise self-adjustment of the nav-igation system requires approx. 50km of travel the first time and whentyres are changed.

– Continuous lack of grip at thewheels (for example skidding on ice),the system temporarily detects an in-correct position.

– During precision self-adjustmentthe position is not detected absolutelycompletely.

The navigation system is managedcompletely through the I.C.S., there-fore the only operations that may benecessary are replacement of the CD-ROM to set the map of another areaor an updated map.

Access to the navigation main func-tion page (fig. 1) is gained pressingkey 18 (NAVI) after turning on. Eachtime the I.C.S. is turned on a page willbe shown with warnings about care inuse of the system (fig. 2) which, to beable to continue using the systemmust be confirmed pressing knob 20or one of the main function keys. Thispage will no longer be displayed aslong as the system is on.
