ApplicationsAs a manufactured scaffolding plank, LumberBank’s LVL Scaffold Planks are free of knots and concentrated defects, which are inherent in all lumber. The planks last longer due to their ability to resist splits on the sides and ends. Strong and stiff under load, the scaffolding plank veneers are selected for quality and uni-directionality.

The phenol resin used to bond veneers is highly resistant to the attack of chemicals, making LumberBank’s LVL Scaffold Planks suitable for chemical and marine environments where sparks are caused by metal on metal contact and where the insulation benefits of the plank offers an advantage.

Any risk of damage is related to the concentration and temperature of the chemical solution, but LumberBank’s LVL Scaffold Planks will be largely unaffected by exposure to moderate strength acids and alkalis (pH range 3 -9). Stronger acids and alkalis however can cause a reduction in strength over time.

Decay is unlikely if scaffold planks are properly stored and do not remain wet for long periods.

Peace of MindEvery LumberBank’s LVL Scaffold Plank is individually proof tested to twice the bending moment arising from AS/NZS 1576 Loading Requirements, before being branded as a scaffold plank. The Modulus of Rupture and Modulus of Elasticity are frequently tested throughout the LVL production run in accordance with the requirements of the Plywood Association of Australasia.

BrandingEach plank is permanently indent branded along the edge with:

• Product identification

• Proof tested

• Manufacturing plant reference number

• Certification mark of the Engineered Wood Product Association of Australasia (EWPAA).

CautionsAvoid Damaging Scaffold Planks:

• Do not use planks over greater spans than those recommend by the manufacturer

• Do not drop or throw scaffold planks from excessive heights

• Do not overload scaffold planks. If planks are over-loaded then they must be removed and tested before reuse

• Do not drive vehicles over scaffold planks

• Notching or shallow cuts in planks reduce strength

• Take precautions against slag burns from gas cutting or welding

Recommendations for Storage and Maintenance of Scaffolding PlanksDry Planks:

Store under cover or if storing outside, stack as for wet planks and cover to keep dry.

Wet Planks:

Ensure planks are clear of the ground and stored on level bearers, with spaces between each layer.

Position stacks in a well-ventilated, dry area and align with spacers (fillets) with bearers.

A minimum of three bearers/fillets per layer is recommended.

Maintenance:

Regular inspection is recommended and any plank subject to damage or misuse – or which demonstrates signs of damage – should be withdrawn for testing before use.
