Ferrari.com, has revealed the first photographs of the new FF, the company’s

most powerful, versatile four-seater ever, as well as its first ever four-wheel drive

car. The FF - an acronym for Ferrari Four (four seats and four-wheel drive) - ush-

ers in an entirely new GT sports car concept. A decisive break with the past, the

new car represents not so much an evolution as a true revolution.

This new V12 melds to an unprecedented level an extremely sporty, high-per-

formance character with incredible versatility, superb comfort and sophisticated

elegance, guaranteeing both driver and passengers an absolutely unique driving

experience.

Designed by Pininfarina, the shape and proportions perfectly interpret the FF’s

harmonious blend of sporting DNA and extraordinary usability.

The FF features the company’s first ever four-wheel drive system. Ferrari’s exclu-

sive, patented 4RM (four-wheel drive) weighs 50 per cent less than a conventional

four-wheel drive system, maintaining perfect weight distribution (53 per cent over

the rear axle). Completely integrated with the car’s electronic dynamic control

systems, the four-wheel drive technology delivers record levels of performance on

all terrains and in all conditions via continuous and intelligent predictive torque

distribution to all four wheels. The FF is also equipped with the latest magneto-

rheological damping system (SCM3), as well as the most recent development in

carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo.

Exceptional performance levels come courtesy of the new 6,262 cc direct injection engine

which develops 660 CV at 8,000 rpm. In tandem with its transaxle dual-clutch F1 gearbox,

stunning acceleration figures (0-100 km/h in 3.7 sec.) are guaranteed. The new model’s

class-leading weight-to-power ratio of 2.7 kg/CV, along with its ideal weight distribution, en-

sures exceptionally responsive handling. The result is that owners will be able to enjoy the FF’s

prowess over a wide range of uses: city driving, on low grip or snow-covered surfaces and

on the track. Performance aside, Maranello’s latest model also offers standards of passenger

space, comfort, in-car spec and equipment previously unheard of in such a high-performance

car. It can comfortably accommodate four people and their luggage, thanks to the best cabin

space and boot capacity (450 litres extendable to 800) figures in its category, including

four-door cars.

A vast array of personalisation options and accessories has been developed for the FF. These

include six model-specific exterior colours and sumptuous interior trim incorporating specially

selected and treated aniline leather.

The FF, which will make its official debut in occasion of the upcoming Geneva Motor Show,

The eternity of the element air. Gentle and refined, yet the strength of the wind it is able to erode even the toughest of

materials giving birth to distinctive shapes known in nature. Elegant and muscular the Huayra merges the past, present

and future in a timeless interpretation of automotive art. The styling of the car was perfected over the course of 5 years

to find each line’s beginning and end. During this study, eight scale models were created, as well as two 1:1 models,

each an evolution of the previous in a never ending quest to perfect the form and refining the substance.

The bi-xenon headlamps are just one of the many precious gifts from the Zonda R, and LED daytime running lights are

seamlessly integrated in the elliptical shape of the design. The rear bumper integrates with the diffuser and is dominat-

ed by an elliptical frame that surrounds the four central exhaust outlets, now becoming a characteristic Pagani element.

The never ending quest for weight reduction resulted also into the combination of structural and non-structural or

aesthetical elements. An example is the integration of all ventilation air ducts into the monocoque’s structure, mak-

ing the use of additional parts and ducts unnecessary. The result of this attention to detail is a vehicle weighing

1.350 kg making the Huayra the lightest sportscar in its class.

Mercedes-AMG provides the heart for the Huayra. The 60 degree 12 cylinder turbocharged engine with a dis-

placement of 5980 cm3 has been developed not just to meet the strictest technical and quality requirements, but

also to give the car its many faces.

The calm and harmony of driving one of the world’s most refined GT car is interrupted when the driver calls upon

the Huayra to unleash its 700 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. The turbos have been studied to offer immedi-

ate response to the slightest throttle input, giving the driver full control over the engine at any rpm and preventing

unwanted delays in the delivery of power.

The aerodynamic concept of the Huayra is that of a wing. The vehicle can modify the properties of this wing by varying

the front ride height, which can be adjusted dynamically, and by adjusting the 4 control flaps on each of the four corners

of the car. The goal is to have a neutral vehicle behavior under all conditions and control body roll via aerodynamic

means. The behavior of the flaps is managed by a dedicated control unit that is fed information from the ABS and ECU,

which pass information about the car’s speed, yaw rate, lateral acceleration, steering angle and throttle position.

The system improves aerodynamic efficiency in a variety of driv-

ing conditions, where a low drag coefficient is not the deter-

mining factor. During braking, for example, the rear flaps and

the front suspension are raised to counteract the weight transfer

and balance the weight distribution between front and rear

axles, allowing a better use of the rear brake force.

Another vital design tenant for the Huayra project was to ensure clean airflow over the body of the car. The shape

of the two engine air intakes behind the occupants shoulders are a tribute to the supersonic aircraft of the late

1950s and 1960s, but also allow the motor breath without disrupting the flow. The intake for the gearbox radia-

tor is located between the engine bay window and the carbon clamshell of the rear bonnet, which provides an

excellent airflow to the radiator without having a substantial impact on aerodynamic drag. This decision also led

to the omission of a rear wing, replaced by the movable flaps.

In addition to the downforce generated by the flaps and body, two

high negative pressure areas were designed into the shape of the

underbody and the diffuser at the rear, thus enhancing the aero-

dynamic stability and guaranteeing the Huayra downforce under

all circumstances. •

petence via intensive development work in the field of hybrid technology. With the Porsche 918 RSR, the manu-

facturer of sporty premium vehicles is presenting a high-end synthesis of 2010’s successful hybrid concepts. The

two-seater mid-engine coupé 918 RSR clearly reveals what happens when the technology fitted in the 911 GT3 R

hybrid and the design of the 918 Spyder are transferred to a modern, innovative super sports car.

With its highly-efficient flywheel accumulator, the 911 GT3 R hybrid racing car proved to be an

attention magnet during competition racing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, during the

American Le Mans Series races (ALMS) in Road Atlanta/USA and the ILMC run in China’s Zhuhai.

It demonstrated its massive performance potential under realistic motor racing conditions against

top competitors. The 911 GT3 R Hybrid, referred to internally as the “Race Lab” actually surpassed

the high expectations of Porsche Motorsport. Competitiveness, high reliability and exemplary fuel

efficiency combined with top performance underscored the Porsche technicians’ basic idea of gener-

ating additional power in an intelligent manner. The 911 GT3 R Hybrid obtains its additional power

from its own vehicle dynamics when braking. Porsche is now transplanting this technology into the

mid-engine coupé 918 RSR, the motor sports version of the 918 Spyder concept car.

From the tradition established by classic Porsche long-distance race cars such as the 908 long-

tale coupé (1969) and the 917 short-tail coupé (1971), the Porsche designers created a link to

the postmodernism of the “form follows function” philosophy. In the 918 RSR, the lines’ elegant

flow is dominated by muscular wheel arches, dynamic air intakes and a pulpit-like cockpit. A

visible fan wheel between the ram air intake tubes and a rear spoiler with RS Spyder dimen-

sions additionally emphasise the racing laboratory function. The new “liquid metal chrome

blue” colour which has been created underscores the sculptured curves of the forms, whilst the

typical Porsche hybrid orange colour on brake calipers and the body’s longitudinal stripes lends

remarkable touches.

Motor racing technology also dominates within the particularly light, torsionally stiff carbon

fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque. The V8 engine is a further development of the direct

injection engine from the successful RS Spyder race car and now offers an output of precisely

563 hp at 10,300/rpm in the 918 RSR. The electric motors on the two front wheels each con-

tribute 75 kW, i.e. a total of 150 kW, to the peak drive power of exactly 767 hp. This additional

power, which is generated during braking, is stored in an optimised flywheel accumulator.

In the 918 RSR, the two electric motors offer a torque vectoring function with variable torque

distribution to the front axle. This additionally increases agility and improves steering response.

Mounted upstream of the rear axle, the mid-engine is integrated with a racing transmission also

based on the RS Spyder race car. This further developed six-speed constant-mesh transmission

with longitudinally mounted shafts and straight-toothed spur gears is operated using two shift

paddles behind the racing steering wheel.

The vehicle’s functional equipment underscores its puristic motor racing character. Whether it be

the characteristic doors which open obliquely upwards, the air intake in the roof between the

wing doors, the quick-action locks on the front and rear CFRP lids, the two roof-mounted aerials

for pit radio and telemetry, the RS Spyder-like small, lateral front flics or the air splitters beneath

A special-edition Chevrolet Camaro Convertible will serve as the official pace car of the 2011 Indianapo -

lis 500. Chevrolet and Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials made the announcement at the Barrett-

Jackson Scottsdale classic auto auction, where a bidder will have the opportunity to purchase the first of

50 Indianapolis 500 Festival Committee cars.

The 2011 Camaro Convertible is the 22nd Chevrolet chosen to pace “The Greatest Spectacle In Racing®”

and the seventh Camaro. Adding to the rich heritage is the fact that 2011 will mark the 100th anniversary

of the first Indianapolis 500, as well as the centennial year of Chevrolet.

Chevrolet will donate full proceeds of the auction to the David Foster Foundation, a charity devoted to sup-

porting families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants. David Foster, the 15-time Grammy-

winning music producer and songwriter, founded the organization in his native Canada.

The pace car, along with the matching festival cars, features a Summit White exterior accented with or-

ange stripes and door graphics. The interior is trimmed in orange leather, including front seat headrests

embossed with the Indy 500 logo, along with white door panels and instrument panel trim. The instrument

panel trim features extensions of the orange exterior stripes.

The color combination is similar to the design used on the 1969 Camaro Indy pace car – replicas of

which have become among the most popular Camaros in the collector world. •
