Piscadera’s original name

was ‘El Pescadero’, which is

Spanish for ‘the fisherman’.

The Arawak Indians, Curacao’s

original inhabitants, already caught

enormous amounts of fish here.

The bay used to have its own fort,

which was built by Dutch Governor

Van Beek in the early 1700s. It was

armed with cannons and saw fierce

battles with French and English

troops. The latter, in 1804,

ere led by Vice Admiral William

Bligh who had earlier survived the

legendary mutiny on the Bounty.

Today, the bay still has a quaint

little harbor where the fishing

boats depart in the early hours in

the morning and where, according

to connoisseurs, you can taste the

island’s finest seafood soup.

Due to its sandy beaches, crystal

clear water, central location and

vibrant green vegetation, Piscadera

Bay was the first choice for several
