    Luciferianism

    Lucifer, Lux Ferre

    Luciferianism, like Satanism itself , has a multitude of f orms; primarily being of a Traditionalist s lant, and

    Modernist slant. What I am going to describe herein is primarily just a brief overview of the main dif f erences

    between Satanism and Luciferianism. For more inf ormation, youll likely want to review the sections on

    Traditional Satanism and Modern Satanism, as they apply by and large to Luciferianism, as well.

    Traditional Luciferianism believes in an actual entity or f orce which is called Luciferthe mythos varies

    considerably, as with Tradit ional Satanism. Some cons ider Lucifer to be the Christ ian fallen angel; ot hers,

    to be an elder God who pre-dates Christianity, etc. Generally the dif f erence between Tradit ional Satanism

    and Traditional Lucif erianism is one of semantics and character-emphasis: that is, Traditional Satanism

    tends t o f ocus o n the nature of Satan, including characterist ics which are pre-packaged with the name,

    such as the connotat ions o f darkness, of evil, and of anti-Christ ianity; whilst Traditional Lucif erianism

    f ocuses on Lucif er, and the characteristics of knowledge, light, and betterment which come semantically

    bound with the name. This is not, o f course, the only interpretat ion of Lucif er. Noteably, the Children of

    the Black Rose seem to believe that Lucif er is the All of the universe, neither male nor f emale, neither good

    nor evil, everything and nothing all together.

    Traditional Lucif erian groups seem to be f ew and far between. The Church Lucif er (or Children of the Black

    Rose) seem to be a well-established and organized group, who claim a generational form of Satanism

    leading back several thousand years. They are allied with the First Church of Satan, which is also a

    Traditional Satanism organizat ion. You can f ind more inf ormation on both in the Traditional Satanism

    section. Modern Luciferianism, like the Symbolist stance of Modern Satanism takes a s tance that Lucif er is

    depicted as a mythic f igure or symbol which represents admirable qualities or characterist ics. Primary

    among these characteris tics are knowledge, independance, pride, and mastery of self . Lucifer is seen as

    the Lightbearer; the bringer of knowledge and truth. As a being of both f ire (light) and air (wisdom), he is

    characterized by sunlight, wind, and f ire. However, in acknowledgement o f the dual nature o f

    widom/knowledge, and the f act that it can be used f or bo th good and ill, he is also represented, to alesser degree, by the traditional darkness associated with Satanism. These qualities are viewed not only

    as admirable, but as highly desireable to achieve in ones life. In ef f ect, one wishes to become Lucifer.

    This does not , however, entail worshipping the f igure or doing obscure demono logic rituals to empower

    oneself. It is more accurately described as a conscious ef f ort of constant self -improvement through

    learning and ef f ort . Small steps of self -betterment, as visible through an increase in material or emot ional

    well-being: a promotion, a car, a new lover, a steady relationship, etc. Magick may or may not be used

    towards these ends; usually it is lesser magick (wish-magick) which is employed.

    I believe it should be noted that, although it is true that most see Luciferianism as a denomination o f

    Satanism, there are some who see the two as distinct religious pathways. I have even spoken to one

    Traditional Lucif erian who is adamently opposed to Satanism, and stro ngly dislikes t he implication that

    Luciferianism and Satanism are one and the same. So although I do t ry my best to give accurate

    information, please keep in mind that not everyone will agree with me.
