The Kick-Off event for the Pianos on Parade 2015 will be in Union Station on Memorial Day weekend, May 23-24, 2015. All of the pianos will be painted by local artists on Saturday, May 23, in the Sprint Festival Hall, with live entertainment and children’s activities providing a festive atmosphere. Come join the fun and stay for Celebration at the Station on the 24th, featuring an evening performance by the KC Symphony,followed by fireworks over the WWI Memorial!

On Sunday May 24 at 2:00, we will host a Community Play-Along for anyone who would like to play in a piano orchestra. This will be a fun afternoon for students, teachers, friends and family to make music together on our newly painted POP pianos. Teachers and advanced pianists are invited to improvise duet parts to accompa-ny these selections.

KCMTA-Heritage Philharmonic Young

Artist Concert

Congratulations to all participants and their teachers in this year’s Music Progressions held April 11 and 12 at Village Music Academy in Prairie Village, KS and April 18 and 19 at South Middle School in Lawrence, KS. A total of 157 students from 22 studios completed performance, theory, musicianship and listening requirements and earned certificates and colorful rosette ribbons indicating level of achievement. Special thanks go to our wonderful judges, Dan Bruggeman, Julie Dean, Jean Drumm, Elizabeth Grace, Karen Halverhout, Janet Johnson, Myra Lemons, Karen McClellan, Michelle Rautmann, Lisa Studtmann and Olivia Zimmerman; and the teachers who all pitched in to make the events run smoothly.

The winners of the 2015 KCMTA-Heritage Philharmonic Concert

Competition will perform in concert with the orchestra on May 2,

2015 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at Tri-City Ministries, 4500

Little Blue Parkway, Independence, MO. Free admission.

The Multi Piano Concerts are returning in 2016! The first rehearsal will be December 19, 2015 at Schmitt Music. The second rehearsal will be January 9, 2016 at the Bell Center, and the concerts will be January 10, 2016 at the Bell Center. will be featured on one of the programs for KTWU

Public Television’s Sunflower Journeys! The show

director is planning on taping the Memorial Day

weekend as the pianos are moved into Union

Station and while they are painted by local artists.

This episode will be aired in our area on KCPT

Public Television at a later date.

The KMTA conference will be held June 4-6, 2015 at Friends University in Wichita. Featured presenters and performers include: Gila Goldstein, Lisa Hittle, Dan Racer, The Tower Wind Quintet, Sylvia Coats, DeeAnn Brown, and Natalie Weber. Featuring a workshop and premier by Stephanie Berg, composer of the KCMTA commissioned centennial piece, followed by lunch at Harvey’s Union Station.

May 23-24 Pianos on Parade Kick-Off at Union Station May 23: Artists will be painting POP pianos all day in Sprint Festival Hall to the sounds of live entertainment. Open to the public for viewing. Children’s activities. Volunteers needed!!

May 24: Community Play-Along on the painted pianos, 2 p.m.
