SOLEMNITY OF THE BODY & BLOOD OF CHRIST

“Behold what you are, become what you received!”

-St Augustine

Our celebration of the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ takes on a new and deep meaning in this unforgettable year of enforced isolation from the Eucharist. Before the lockdown, few Catholics heard or were aware of the phrase, “spiritual Communion.” But with livestream and online Masses the new pan-demic norm, the experience of spiritual Communion became a spiritual lifeline for many. Desire for the Eucharist, kept alive through spiritual Communion, deepened longings to participate physically in the Eu-charist. Making a Spiritual Communion served a positive re-minder that our desire to be nourished by God’s grace is met by Jesus’ desire to be sacramentally present to us. The Catechism of the Catholic Church calls the Eucharist the “source and summit of the Christian life.” (CCC No. 1324) Everything in the life of the Church and of each Christian finds its source and goal in the Eucharist. St Paul tells us, “The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though, many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.” The Eucharist transforms us into what we re-ceive.

ROSARY HOPSCOTCH While surfing the web for some activities with my grandchildren, I found this cute idea to pray the rosary. It’s fun to have your children help create the hopscotch—Here’s what you will need white paper roll, paint or markers and brushes. Print out 10 small pictures of Mary, one of the Holy Trinity, and one og God the Father. Outline one decade of the rosary and paint the beads (circles). Glue the pictures next to each bead as a reminder of what prayer comes next. For more information visit http://johnsonfamilytoday.blogspot.com/2012/09/rosary-hopscotch.html WHAT CREATIVE ACTIVITES ARE YOU DOING WHILE YOUR KIDS ARE ON SUMMER BREAK AND SELF-DISTANCING? Let’s Share this Summer and have some fun at home, in our Domestic Church!

St Clare of Assisi There is power in the Eucharist—just ask St Clare! She miracu-lously turned away an attack by soldiers who had broken into her convent. Her love for the Eucharist and complete trust in God gave her the courage to face an army invasion—she held up the monstrance and the army ran away. Read the story of St Clare of Assisi and learn about • Clare’s great love for the Eucharist • Her friendship with St. Francis of Assisi • Why St. Francis cut Clare’s hair and took away her fancy clothes • The miracles attributed to St. Clare Visit www.theMassExplained.com for fun Catholic Crafts

SPIRITUAL LISTENERS Need to talk or pray with a brother or sister in

faith during these during these pandemic times?

We know that this time of pandemic is very stressful and filled with worry for many of us. We turn to our faith in God in these moments

and sometimes talking and praying with a broth-er or sister in faith is just what we need to ease our mind when we are struggling. The sharing of our faith and the accompaniment of one an-other on the journey is a core value of the Dio-cese. If you would like to talk, pray or otherwise

faith share with a representative of our Local Church, please respond to the email address

below and leave your contact information. May God bless you.

June 14, 2020 Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ

Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14b-16a • 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 • John 6:51-58

“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.” —John 6:56 What happens when you dissolve a powdered drink mix in water and shake it up? Would it be possible to separate the granules from the water once they are completely dissolved? Of course not! Our Gospel passage today reminds us that when we receive Jesus’ Body and Blood in Holy Communion, he becomes a part of us, and we are changed to become more like him. Last week, we learned that God’s love for us is so great that Christ was willing to die so we might be brought into the family of God. This week, we see that not only do we become a part of God’s family through Jesus’ death and resurrection, but Jesus went even a step further by providing a way for us to have his Body and Blood poured into us. He wants so much to be a part of us that he gives us himself in this new way. We are blessed to have an opportunity to receive him in Holy Communion. Thank you, Jesus, for offering us your Body and Blood so that your life can become our life. Help us to prepare well to receive you in Holy Communion so we will welcome you with a clean heart.

What will you say to Jesus after receiving him in Holy Communion today?

(For those who have not yet received their First Holy Communion, you can still talk to him in prayer during the communion procession.)
