Get to know your fellow members. We are trying to provide some info on all our
members to facilitate getting to know each other. In this month’s issue we are hi-lighting
our good friend and member David Simpson. David wrote a column for the Elk Grove
Citizen for 32 years and finally retired his column in January. Following is a copy of his

VOLUNTEER HELP WANTED
As most of you know I work as a volunteer at Kaiser Hospitals South Sacramento facility two 5-hour
shifts a week. We currently have need for additional volunteers to work at least one 5-hour shift per
week. I work as an “Ambassador” which means I usually wander the hallways looking for members who
need assistance. I also run errands, deliver food trays to hospital floors and do wheel chair escorts. We
also have need for Desk Clerks who assist members from a desk position, and “Errand Runners” who
assist the desk clerk with member needs. Shifts run Monday – Saturday as follows: Morning 8AM-1PM,
Afternoon 1PM-6PM. If you would be interested in or know someone who would be interested in
volunteering at the hospital, please call Valerie Sanders, Manager – Volunteer Services Department at (916)
688-6069. Tell her that Gary Walden ask you to call. Or, if you would like additional information from me
send an email to [email protected]

NOTICES:
The cost of your lunch includes a small fee ($3) for the club so that we can pay our quarterly insurance
assessment and help defray our administrative costs. When you miss a meeting, we still incur these costs.
Any member that so desires would be welcomed at our BEC meeting the last Wednesday of each month.
Our next BEC meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 (7:15 am) at Mikes Original Diner
(used to be Mel’s Original Diner) and is located at 9139 E Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95624 (same
parking lot as Hobby Lobby).
It was brought up that special recognition to those members that are over the age of 90 years old be
honored with a certificate of appreciation for their membership in SIR’s. We awarded this certificate to
Don Gut at our March 5th meeting. If you also qualify for this, please let us know.
GUEST SPEAKERS - If you know of anyone you would like to have speak at one of our lunches, please
