Lunar Theme park project

• This project can be completed without the need for a printer – simply copy the tables etc. onto paper.

• There is a sheet of cm squared paper at the end that you could print off to make your design or you can draw your own!

• Try to do this in little chunks , say an hour on the days you would normally have Maths.

AMBER PROJECTThe year is 2050. Man is now colonising the moon and you have decided to open the first lunar theme park in history!!!

• Your spending limit is £500 000

• What sort of rides you are going to have? What sort of rides will attract visitors to your park rather than others?

• You also need to think about the other facilities visitors will need when they come to your theme park like toilets, cafes, shops and paths between all the facilities and rides.

• Many theme parks have different areas that are ‘themed’. In other words they might have an African area, a wild west American area or an Old England area. Think carefully about what you want to have in yours. What will you call your rides?

• Note – No printing is required for this project – you can do all of this with pencil and paper if you would prefer or need to

2. Running your theme parkTo run your theme park the following costs will apply to each item that you have every day. How much will it cost to run your theme park for one day?

• How much will it cost for 31 days- if the costs remain at the same level?

• If we assume 31 days is a month – what would it cost to run for a year?

• Research online how many months a theme park is usually closed for?

• So, how many full months do you think you would have costs for?

5. Advertising!You have to decide on the type of advertising you want to use to promote your theme park. The costs of the different types is given below.You need to :-

• Design your Leaflet - theme your areas, name your rides, have a look at some theme parks to see what they have .

• Write your radio Advert, ie. What will your advert say on the radio?

Once you have completed your radio advertising speech and leaflet then:-

• Get your family members to give you a rating for your leaflet and radio speech.

• They can rate your leaflet and radio speech 1, 2 or 3.• Then use that rating for the TV advert too.• This rating will affect the number of extra visitors your advert will

bring in per day.• As you can see below a rating of 1 means the most extra visitors.

• NOWWork out the total extra profit you will get from your advertising. You will need to work out how much extra GATE money you get from these extra visitors then subtract the cost of your advertising to get your extra profit
