IMPORTING & UPDATING MODELS

Edit Materials -> (CTRL) + Reload Model button: If you import a model that uses over 100mb of

texture memory, Lumion will cap the maximum texture resolution at 2048x2048 pixels. However, you can

bypass this limit by pressing CTRL while you click on the Reload model button. If you apply a Standard or

Lightmap material to your imported model, any texture you load will be loaded at whatever resolution your

graphics card is capable of displaying (up to a maximum of 16384x16384 pixels).

FBX etc) has changed, this option allows you to manually select the location/name of the file.

Import model -> Animation on/off button: This function lets you import move/rotate/scale animations

via FBX/DAE.

SELECTING, COPYING, MOVING AND ALIGNING OBJECTS

(CTRL) + Drag with Left mouse button: Rectangular selection tool for selecting multiple objects.

(CTRL) + (SHIFT) + Drag with Left mouse button: Add new rectangular selection to existing selection.

(ALT) + Move selected object(s): Copy-paste selected object(s) by pressing ALT while dragging one of the

selected objects.

Place object mode -> (CTRL) + Left-click: Randomly place 10 copies of the currently active object library

model.

Place object mode -> (Z) + Left-click: Place a new object with +/-0 to 50% random scale.

(Escape): This "advanced" move mode lets you move objects by clicking directly on them and dragging the

mouse to move them. In addition, (H) lets you move objects up and down while (R) allows you to rotate

them.

(G): This function will make objects that you are moving or placing in your scene snap to the Lumion terrain

while ignoring all other object types.

(F): The orientation of all objects (apart from Trees/plants) can be made to adapt to the surface angles of

other objects. Move object button -> Press (F) for "Flatten" -> Move the object(s) to make them adapt to

the surface angles of other objects.

(SHIFT) + Move selected object(s): Press shift while dragging selected objects to move them horizontally

with snapping turned off.

(SHIFT) + Rotate/Rotate Pitch/Rotate Bank selected object(s): Press shift while rotating objects to

temporarily turn the 45 degree angle snapping off.

(CTRL) + "Same height" command: The selected objects will be placed at the same height as the object you

clicked on. (CTRL)-select objects -> Context menu -> (Click on the icon of the object that has the height you

want the other objects to inherit -> Transformation -> Same height.

(CTRL) + "Space" command: The selected objects will be placed in a straight line as defined by the objects

that are furthest away from each other. (CTRL)-select objects -> Context menu -> Click on the selection icon

of one of the selected objects -> Transformation -> Space)

"Align" command: This command lets you centre selected objects so that their pivot points are at the same

position (CTRL-select objects -> Context menu -> Transformation -> Align). If you need to move or

manipulate one of the overlapping objects, place the mouse cursor over the small overlapping object

selection icons and use the mouse wheel (or the Arrow Up/Down keys) to toggle between the objects.

(L): Scale model.

(R): Rotate Heading.

(P): Rotate Pitch.

(B): Rotate Bank.

Making a video by using Lumion

I. Exporting sketchup file

Use COLLADA files (*.DAE) as intermediate file format.

Export from SketchUp to DAE file, and then import into Lumion.

To export from SketchUp chose from menu:

File -> Export -> 3D ModeL

Click Options button and select the following:

The Triangulate All Faces option

The Preserve Component Hierarchies option

The Export Texture Maps option

Exporter options:

To set exporter options click "Options" button:

II. Start-up Lumion

After enter the Lumion, the home screen is shown.

The home screen allow you to create the scene

Loaded example allow you to load and save your project

You can load your files that have been saved by clicking “load scene” button.

Lumion‟s setting window (suggest to lower down the star when editing )

After exporting, start Lumion and select the preset Sunny Day on the New tab. Lumion will

open a scene with this preset. We are now in the Build mode that looks something like the

following :

III. Importing the model

On the left-hand side, there is a square with a Sun

Move your mouse there and three more squares will be shown.

The first one is for changing the weather, the second one is for landscape, the third one is

to import our models, and the last one is to add objects by using the Lumion library.

Click on the Import

Select the exported sketchup file

Once you click on Open, a small window will appear where we can change the name of our

imported model and choose to import animations (if we have some).

Click on OK to add the 3D model to the library.

IV. Applying materials

Click on icon that has a bucket with ink, add materials to the model.

There is a white dot that need to be click on in order to select the model near the model.

Selected the model will turn green with a bounding box.

At the bottom, there are the materials applied to your 3D model

Add material button is highlighted

Before editing the materials ,click the plus button and select the part for applying material

Click on the first button to change the material properties

The second button to change the position of the texture.

The third button allows us to change the textures.

Advanced option allows us to darken the texture or lighten the texture if needed.

Do remember to click the OK button after finish applying all the materials

V. Create a video with the Movie mode in Lumion

Click on the Movie icon to start creating a movie

The interface looks as shown in the following screenshot:

VI. Creating an individual clip

Click on the button with the camera icon to start the first shot

Move the camera and click again

Repeating the 1st and 2

nd step until the end of the scene.

Click on the Play icon to see the animation.

Press Shift along with any number between 1 and 9 to load the saved viewports and use

those viewports to create the movie.

VII. Editing the clip

Select the clip, and above it we have two buttons, as you can see in the following screenshot:

After done several clips, the order can be changed by dragging and dropping the clip to the

correct order.

VIII. Modifying clip by effect

Click on the New Effect button

Once you click the button , a window will be shown as the following screenshot:

SUN

-Modify the sun settings in a clip.

SHADOW

-Ambient shadow is used to emulate soft shadows from sky light.

-Shadow brightness is used to adjust the ambient light from the sky are visible.

-A bigger shadow range is good for big scenes while a small shadow range will give more

resolution for smaller scenes.

-Shadow error correction is used to reduce shadow errors caused by two pieces of the model being

to close on top of each other.

CONTRAILS

- To make the urban skies come to life with realistic animated aircraft contrails.

UNDERWATER

-With the underwater effect you can make it look like you are under water even if you are not.

How to animate an object?

Select the effect of “Advance Move”

Choose the “move” button before selecting the object.

Select the object and drag it to the move direction of the object.

Move the object from one point to another point.

After the object has been edited, the red line shows the road path of the objects.

Remember to press the ok button after finish editing.

In the Movie mode, Lumion can add effects to each clip and to the whole movie. This option is

useful when we want to add, for example, a Fade In or Fade Out option to a specific clip, or

change the Depth of Field value in another

Tips: Add an effect to your entire video, instead of a single clip, by clicking on the Entire

Movie icon, the one at the bottom left-hand corner characterized with the filmstrip. If click on this

icon, it can go to another menu where we can edit the entire movie and add effects to the whole

movie instead of doing so to individual clips. This is useful especially for adding the same effect to

all the clips.

IX. Exporting video clip

Click the button shown below to export the file which you have edited.

A window will be shown after click the export file button, it allows you to edit the setting

and the quality of the video clip.

HD is recommended for the better quality of movie.

We can export in the MP4 format, which has several options, such as Quality, Frames per

second, and Resolution

Click „ok” to export the video clip.

Starting Windows Live Movie Maker

To start Windows Live Movie Maker

i. Click Start

iii. Creating a video by mocie maker

Start Movie Maker

Open the Project menu.

Click New Project.

If you have a project already open, you are prompted to save it. Click Yes to save the

project or click No to discard changes.

Adding and Importing Media

Add media (photos, videos, music, and audio).

Import media from external devices or add media files already stored on the system

To add videos and photos stored in a local or network location:

a. Click the Home tab.

b. Select Add Videos and Photos.

c. Navigate to the location containing the videos or photos .

d. Select the videos or photos you want to add.

e. Click Open

f. Repeat steps 1–4 until all the videos are added.

iv. Click Open Adding Music and Audio Files

To add music and audio files stored in a local or network location.

1. Click Add Music.

2. Navigate to the location containing the music.

3. Select the music or audio files you want to add.

4. Click Open.

5. Repeat steps 1–4 until all the audios are finished to add.

v. Editing Your Video

After importing the video, photo, and audio clips you want to use in your movie, the next step is to

edit your movie. I recommend you follow this order:

1. Arrange the photos and videos into the desired playback order.

2. Edit video clips.

3. Change duration settings for photos and playback speeds for video clips as desired.

4. Add visual effects as desired.

5. Add transitions as desired.

6. Edit the music and audio tracks

Applying Visual Effects

To apply visual effects to a clip or photo:

1. Select the clip or photo.

2. Click the Visual Effects tab.

3. Choose the effect

4. Repeat steps 1–3 as needed with other clips or photos.

vi. Adjusting Brightness

To adjust the brightness of a clip or photo:

1. Select the clip or photo.

2. Click the Brightness slider.

3. Adjust the slider to the left to darken the clip or photo or to the right to lighten the clip or photo

4. Repeat steps 1–3 as needed with other clips or photos.

The effect or brightness adjustment you make changes the appearance of the clip or photo in the

preview window, not the thumbnail in the workspace.

To apply visual effects or brightness adjustments to multiple photos or clips, select them using

Shift+click or Ctrl+click then click the Apply to All button under the Brightness button (it is hidden

under the Brightness slider.

vii. Adding Audio Fade In/Fade Out

Just as you can fade in and fade out video clips and photos, you can do the same with audio tracks.

Follow these steps to fade in audio tracks:

1. Open the Options menu.

2. Select the audio clip you want to fade in.

3. Open the Fade in menu

4. Select a speed: Slow, Medium, or Fast.

To fade out an audio track

1. Open the Options menu.

2. Select the audio clip you want to fade out.

3. Open the Fade out menu

4. Select a speed: Slow, Medium, or Fast.

If you work with video clips with built-in audio, open the Edit menu in step 1 and follow the

remaining steps as written.

To preview fade-in/fade-out effects, play your movie in the preview window.

Adding Titles, Captions, and Credits

To add a title to your movie:

1. Click the Home tab.

2. Click the Title button. Movie Maker switches to the Format tab.

3. The name of your project is used as the title. Replace the text as wanted.

4. Use the Font, Paragraph, and Adjust menus above the preview window to change font, font size,

attributes, centering, text color, and background color.

5. Drag the corners and sides of the Titles text box as needed to change the position, size, and

layout of Title text.

6. By default, the title displays at 0.00 seconds (the start of the movie) and is displayed for 5.5

seconds. Use the Start Time and Text Duration dialogs to change these settings as wanted.

7. Choose a title animation style from the Effects portion of the Format tab.

Editing Titles, Captions, and Credits

If you need to change the text or other attributes for titles, captions, or credits, follow this procedure:

1. Click the item you want to change in the work area.

2. Click the Format tab.

3. Make the edits. To edit text, click the Edit Text button in the Adjust menu.

viii. Saving project

1. Open the Project menu.

2. Click Save Project As.

3. Enter project‟s name
