45 holes of golfing paradise

Lumine is a true golfing haven, with 45 holes that offer a wide variety of challenges for players of all skill levels. The three Lumine courses are the first in Spain to be awarded the Audubon International Gold Signature Sanctuary Certificate, regarded worldwide as the kite mark for the most environmentally-aware leisure developments.

The flagship golf course at Lumine is the Greg Norman-designed Lakes Course. Opened in 2008 with a Sergio Garcia Pro-Am, its reputation is now such that it has been chosen as a venue for the second stage of the European Tour Qualifying School for the next two years, starting in November 2011. The Great White Shark’s fins are certainly all over this challenging, technical test that unfolds over the colourful network of water hazards winding around the Sèquia Major wetlands.

Using the natural setting, the two-time Open Champion has created a unique expression of golf’s tests and rewards. The Lakes has also hosted the PGA of Europe’s prestigious annual fourball event, with that body formally promoting the resort in partnership with the Tourist Board of the Tarragona Provincial Government.

Lumine’s second championship course, The Hills, is topographically very different to its sister course. Designed by Spanish course architect Alfonso Vidaor, this undulating layout weaves its way through picturesque pine woodlands, olive groves, natural quarries and rocky outcrops, and puts a precedent on shot shaping and course management. Those who choose to play this enthralling layout will also be treated to incredible views over the Mediterranean Sea.

Completing the golfing experience at Lumine is another Greg Norman-designed course. The Ruins would arguably fit comfortably into a ranking of the Continent’s top nine-hole layouts and is appropriately named after the traces of Roman archaeology that form some of the defining features on the layout. This exquisite course is blessed with a five-hole stretch that descends down a sweeping hillside – starting at the short, par-4 3rd with its shelf-like fairway cut into the slope and culminating in a plateau green with fine views of PortAventura and beyond.

For those looking to home their skills during their stay, a team of professionals at the Lumine Golf Academy are on hand with numerous group courses for beginners right through to the more accomplished golfer. A Junior Academy also introduces the game in a fun and relaxed environment.

Meetings and events

The Conventions Centre at Lumine is one of the largest in Europe and provides the perfect location for meetings or events. The facility has five main rooms which can be divided into as many as 18 multi-function spaces and hold up to 4,000 people. Fully equipped with the latest audio and visual technology, it has all that is required for business meetings. This was reflected when the PGAs of Europe opted to hold its annual Training Summit & Coaching Seminar there earlier this year.
