Dear Readers, We take great pleasure to get the opportunity to release this e-magazine LUMANTI.And aslso we are very glad that we have completed our first joint e-bulletin along with this edition of the magazine.In this issue you will find the project reports of both RC Lalitpur and RC Borivli along with articles related to our theme “CELEBRATING WOMEN”. This magazine contains the information about the RCL projects that have been completed in the months of (DECEMBER to FEBRUARY), also we have stressed to provide the information about the upcoming projects. Finally we would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and wish everyone well for the future. This is our third release of the ROTA YEAR (13-14) after getting positive feed back from the previous editions we have intended to do much better than the earlier editions of the Lumanti Magazines. -Editorial Team

Every Year a football tournament is organized with an objective of fellowship between the Rotaract Clubs.This year the Rotaract Premier League was hosted by Rotaract Clubs such as RC Patan Durbar Square , RC Yala , RC Mahaboudha and RC Lalitpur.There were in total of 6 participant clubs which included all the hosts as well as RC Peoples Campus and RC Himalayan Patan.The Tournament included a group stage games and the knockout rounds.There was a great amount of respect and sportsmen ship between the players of all the clubs. The tournament duration was reduced as the Clubs had their own projects to carry out.

After the group games were played out RC Yala , RC PDS , RC Lalitpur and RC People’s Campus were able to book their places in the semi finals of the tournament. The first semi final was played between RC Lalitpur and RC People’s Campus where RC People’s Campus were victorious.In the other semi final RC PDS were victorious against RC Yala.

In the finale, the match between RC PDS and RC Peoples Campus ended 3-1 in the favor of RC PDS. RC Patan Durbar Square were crowned Champions of the Rotaract Premier League 13-14.During the closing ceremony the ADRR distributed the certificates to representatives of each participant clubs. Lastly we RC Lalitpur would like to congratulate RC Patan Durbar Square for winning the tournament.May the enthusiasm of this years RPL continue for years to come!

Donating blood to someone has a very pleasant feeling of its own. Rotaracts and Rotary clubs never back down when it comes to a project related to Blood donation. The significance of the project is such that it just can’t be overlooked.As always the support of Red Cross remains vital in these projects as they will be the ones distributing the blood to ones in need. On 1st January, 2014 there was Blood Donation program at Mangal Bazar organized by Rotaract Club of Lalitpur and Rotary Club of Lalitpur.The project took place on Jan 1st so in a way the members were celebrating the new year by donating blood to the needy. In total of 47 people came for blood donation but only 35 were able to donate blood. There was certificate distribution to the volunteers and also the persons who donated blood .With the welcome presence of Rotarians as well in the project the project concluded as a successful one. We are always thankful for the individuals who volunteered through Red Cross, Nepal. This project has been in our agenda for past years and we will try our level best to continue this project in the future and in a more larger scale with more and more donations.

Annual SportsWith an objective to extend the relationship and increase the fellowship among the members of Rotaract Club of Lalitpur, it has been organizing various sports annually. This year also the trend was continued and the following sports were included:

1. Basketball2. Table Tennis3. Badminton4. ChessMaximum members participated in these sports and played a fair match. By organizing these sports, members got chance to explore their sports talent and above all members got chance to know about eachother and had more fellowship.

2nd e-Bulletin Release

ZRRVisitThe ZRR Visit remains a priority for each and every Rotaract Club. From the details of every projects they have completed and projects that they are tending to do in the future is briefly explained to the zonal representatives. So as it is done annually the ZRR visit was scheduled on 21st December for the current rota year.Rtr. Sailendra Shakya and Rtr. Sanjeep Maharjan came for the ZRR visit , all the directors presented their planning and the projects they had completed in the past six months.The views of the zonal representatives are always welcomed by any club so on the day many suggestions were given to the directors by the zonal representatives. The interaction between the directors and the zonal representatives plays a vital role in the future working methods of the club projects.

On December 7, 2013 the second e-Bulletin(e-Magazine ) LUMANTI was released during the general meeting by President Rtr. Elsa Shakya .On course of the release the members were informed about the contents of the magazine by the Editor Rtr. Sachet Bajracharya .He also informed that 17 advertisements were also involved in the magazine. The Editor requested everyone to view the e-Magazine and send feedbacks on the improvements which can be made.

16th Chartered Day CelebrationMarking the day when this great club was chartered we rotaracters from RC Lalitpur celebrate our chartered day with as much joy and enthusiam as possible. The progress the club has made for the last 16 years is remarkable.Giving the young rotaractors a stage to show what they are capable of in socializing with a group of people and working together for the betterment of the club as well as personal development.

On 28th December, 2013 there was the charter day celebration at Madansmarak at 6:00 pm and there was the presence of Rotarians as well as other Rotaractors from own and different rotaract clubs. The formal session was short with rotarians and club president giving a speech on the occasion and the celebration was concluded by tea party.

2nd Club Assembly and Club ElectionOn 21st December,Rtr. Jitendra Bajracharya conducted the Club Assembly. There were no amendments in the Bylaws. All the respective Directors and Officers presented their accomplished projects and planning for coming 6 months. Past presidents, IPP and President gave suggestions as well. In Club Election there was the Nomination for the Post of President by Rtr. Bijay Benjankar and he was elected for the President with the vote of 9 out of 11. There was no nomination or any other post.

Training For TrainersThe program organized by Rotaract Club of Lalitpur with the support of OSED (organization for Socio-Economic Development) Nepal was stared at 10:30 am with registration. The program formally started at 11 o’clock which was initiated by filling questionnaire related to leadership by all of the participants. After the completion of filling the questionnaire by all of the participants, the program stepped to another phase called introduction phase. The first lecture was given by resource person Surya Man Shakya for about 45 minutes. Then everybody was provided refreshment. After refreshment second lecture was given by another resource person Dr. Nawa Raj Khatiwada. During his sessions participants were provided gift hamper who gave the correct answer of his question.After ending his lecture, the questionnaire that is similar to first one was again distributed and participants were given 15 minutes to fulfill the questionnaire and two best participants were also chosen by evaluating the questionnaire. At the last, program was ended by distributing token of love to resource person and certificate to all the participants.

SalutationsRotaract Club of Malate

On 5th October, 2013 salutation of Rotaract club of Malate was done in regular meeting. During salutation brief information of RC Malate was given regarding their board members and their projects.Rotaract club of Malate was chartered on 13th August 1998nfounded Feb 7, 1998. It is one of the rotaract club’s of Philippines sposored by Rotary club of Bagumbayan Manila. Its R.I. district is 3810. Meeting of this club’s member takes place on every Saturday 7 pm at Amapaco Learning Center. During the salutation toast was also proposed for the peace, prosperity and good relationship.

Rotaract Club of Carmona On 4th January, 2014 salutation of Rotaract club of Carmona was done in regular meeting. During salutation brief information of RC Carmona was given regarding their board members and their projects.Rotaract club of Carmona was chartered on 20th October 2005. It is one of the rotaract club’s of Philippines sposored by Rotary club of Carmona. Its R.I. district is 3810. Meeting of this club’s member takes place on every Saturday or Sunday at 6 pm at Carmona national High School. During the salutation toast was also proposed for the peace, prosperity and good relationship.

Photography TrainingOn 11th January, 2014 there was a Photography Training project and the Resource persons were Sanu Maharjan and Rtr. Roshan Bajracharya. On the day mostly the session was based on the topic of Composition. The Program started at 7:30 am. It was informed that further sessions will be conducted after the evaluation of the Photos.

GoodWill VisitGOODWILL VISIT TO RC PATAN SOUTH

With an objective to extend the relationship and increase the fellowship among Rotaract Club of Lalitpur and Rotaract Club of Patan South, RC Lalitpur organized a goodwill visit at RC Patan South on 7th February 2014, Friday at Unique College, Kumaripati. In the meeting, both the club shared their upcoming and accomplished projects. Then the floor was handed over to Rtr. Bijay Benjankar, where he shared few information regarding RC LAlitpur followed by exchange of Letter Head and handover the Club Souvenir to the President of RC Patan South, Rtr. Sneha Shakya.

Wall of Hope Wall of hope is an artistic expression and advocacy for addressing and bringing forth the hidden and suppressed isssues regarding Voilence Against Women in all Nepal. Women play an integral role in sexual trafficking, in the recruitment of young girls, and in their sexual enslavement. Keeping in mind that a broad education and advocacy campaign for violence against women must involve young people, and schools can play a critical role; Human Right Film Focus Nepal had coordinated a grass root campaign that is focused to impact thousands of young people in Nepal and hopefully in other parts of the world through the help of the campaign initiated in schools. The campaign is called “Hands off women and girl” in which Wall of hope is made in school where a large wall is converted into a space for writing message of hope and tracing student’s hand on it in order to symbolize their support.

The objective was to advocate and address the issues regarding violence against women and bringing it forth in the community through the mobilization of the students in the school.Wall of hope is the step taken at the grass root level among the students to symbolize that we are in support of women and we are not afraid to raise voice against any form of violence against women in any part of the world.Wall of hope have all the students of MadanSmarak School and community people around the school as its beneficiaries since it arises the hidden issues on women and violence that they are facing.

As a part of Personal Development, Rotaract Club of Lalitpur initiated the TED talk project in January 25th, 2014 Saturday at Madan Smarak. The program was initiated after the general meeting by Secretary of the club, Rtr.Rubin Bajracharya with his topic Picafect. The Talk generally covered the brief introduction to the Android and its different versions. He shifted his attention from android to his main topic of discuss, Picafect. Picafect, as he described, is his project in Java using Eclipse IDE which when completed would allow the user to format a picture using different effects. The talk continued with his effort to make it user friendly by taking the queries from the mass. He continued by explaining his ideas from the slides he prepared beforehand. The talk was about 10 to 15 minutes followed by discussion session

ROTARACT CLUB OF MUMBAI BORIVLI

Color Splash

Under Professional Development & Public Relations avenue Colour Splash-Har Rang kuchkehtahai, a mega drawing competition on the occasion of Christmas was held at Veer SawarkarUdayan. It was participated by 120 kids of Borivili area. It was not just a mundane drawing competition, but a combination of ideas, creativity, drawing and coloring all together. The idea of this project was to conduct a mega drawing competition for kids which is different from the competitions that they have been participating.The topics that were given to the participants required them to use their creativity and they had to think outside the box. We wanted the participants to have the feeling of competition and at the same time enjoy doing it.

Drop of HopeOn 7th January, 2013 under community service a district wide initiative to donate blood for thalassemia patients was conducted. It was hosted by 11 clubs. This mega campaign was held from Thane, Borivili and Churchgate. An initiative to start the rota year 2013 with a noble cause. The aim of this project was to promote blood donation among masses. To secure our future by donating blood today so that it would be easily available when needed. To let people know about the benefits of donating blood.

On July 2013 under community service avenue a peace rally was organized. Rotaractors and Inner-wheel members assembled at the start-point of the rally. Slogans and banners were used to convey to the public our aim behind the peace rally. Some members tried to strike conversation with some people in public to convince them about their belief in the peace cause. The aim of this project was to promote world peace, to urge the world to give up on violent ways as a method for solving difference and to strengthen the bond between the Rotaractors and the Inner-wheel club.

Peace Rally

Peace WalkOn the 21st of September 2013 a ‘Peace Walk’ was organised at Worli. Twenty Rotaract Clubs along with World Peacekeepers Movement – an Initiative by Workhardt Foundation organised the rally. The Walk Started around 4 P.M. from Array Dairy, Worli and ended near the Worli side of the Sea-Link at around 6 P.M. Various Performances were given by rotaractors along the way; each with a message promoting various values we believe necessary for peace. The aim of this project was to promote Peace on U.N.’s internationally observed World Peace Day.

On 1st September, 2013 at Vikrant circle, Ghatkopar East a skit was performed named AWAAZ. A Musical Skit by ROTARACT CLUB OF MUMBAI GHATKOPAR as a joint project with 3140 Against Rape. It was on the subject of opposing these evil acts like rape and accepting the victim with dignity in the society. By play acting and the combination of songs we tried to oppose these evil acts. The aim of this of this project was to create awareness among people about how to treat a victim after she’s scandalized.

On 19th October, 2013 at Veer Sawarkar Amphitheatre under club service avenue Reminiscence-the alumni meet was conducted. On a Sunday which was mutually decided well in advance as per the convenience of the majority of the alumni. a project to bring together the Ex club Rotaractors and the present Rotaractors together. The motto of this project was to have an interactive session with the stalwarts of the club, whose contribution has been significant to stand today where we belong. An opportunity for all the Ex-members to come together and relive the Rotaract days together. Our aim was also to know from the past presidents of the club, how to handle situations prevailing at club level and their guidance for the smooth functioning of the club.

Reminisence - The Alumni Meet

On 12th December 2013, Sunday Morning, under sports avenue, at Veer SawarkarUdyaan’s Play area sporty Sunday was organized. The idea was to start Sunday morning with sports which we often don’t play due to our busy life routine.

The aim of the project was to strengthen the bond among members by playing team games. It was meant for competition along with some fun. The basic aim was to re-live the childhood days by playing games like Laghori, Saaklietc which we barely do amidst our busy schedule. To promote team spirit was also one of the aims and that is why games like cricket and dog and the bones were also played. Overall a fun filled sporty Sunday ended with the famous Sunday special breakfast of Fafda and Jalebis.

Mitraan“Dosti ki nai paribhasha”

On 8th April, 2013 under community service avenue, at Shanti DaanAashram, Mitraan- Dosti ki nai paribhasha project was organized. Celebrating friendship day with specially gifted people i.e. handicaps, downtrodden, mentally challenged etc. Making them feel special and spending quality time with them. We really appreciated the candles that they had made. The aim of this project was to celebrate friendship day in a different manner than the usual and to make these people feel special and loved.

Udaan - Fight towards successOn 23rd November,2013 under professional development avenue, at Mayfair Banquet, Borivli(w) project Udaan-flight towards success was organized. Project UDAAN-flight towards success was a project undertaken and conducted for the students of class 9 and class 10 of four Municipality Schools in Borivli. A seminar cum interactive session was organized with the help of Prof. Viren Jethwa- CEO of Unique Consultancy Services on how to study along with a motivational pep talk which would help them for the walks of life.The main aim of this project was to help build the confidence among the students of municipality schools. To prepare them and motivate them to overcome challenges facing them when they are a part of larger world. To have a one to one session to discuss problems openly which they might feel are a hindrance and providing them the solution for the same. To facilitate them with SMART tricks of studying and scoring better. To make them aware of various career options available fitting each and everyone’s capability.

On July 2013 under community service avenue ratri before navratri named program was organized. The program was organized to bring smiles on the faces of mentally challenged people. To make them realize that festivals are meant for them too. This was a joint project with our parent Rotary Club of Borivali. We celebrated navratri and indulged in some garba and dandiya. The mentally challenged people enjoyed the night so much and they all had brightest of smiles flashed across their faces that night. The aim of this project was to become friends with these mentally challenged people and enjoy the festival of navratri and dance to the tunes of garba and dandiya.

ChakachakOn 14th July 2013, under community service avenue, at Dadar, Thane, Andheri, Borivali, Dombivali, Vashi, Khargar, Malad, Churchgate and CST stations, we organized a cleaning campaign. Chakachak was a joint initiative of RCMSP, RC NM, RC Ruia, RCLC, RC KES, RC DTSS, RC GDC, RCMDT, RCBU, RC Navi Mumbai,RCKVPC, RC Adarsh College, RC Thane North End, RC Borivali, RC Navi Mumbai Hillside, RCKC. It was meant to spread awareness about the need to maintain clean stations and surroundings as they are the lifeline of this beautiful city. We collected over 97 bags of waste and our project was published in two newspapers.The main aim behind this project was to give Mumbai’s lifeline a much needed bypass. We wanted to show people how a cleaner city can spread happiness and joy and how each and every one of us can contribute to making our city a better place to live in.

On 7th July, 2013 under club service avenue the 16th installation ceremony of RC of Mumbai Borivli.The installation ceremony of Rtr. Bhavi Turakhia and her BODs was done in a Nawabi style. The outgoing of Rtr.Pratik Sundesha along with the felicitation of the Champions of the year 2012-13. A theme based installation ceremony, i.e. the theme being a Nawabi style and hence the ceremony was named as ‘Shahi Durbar’. Our aim was to celebrate the outgoing rotaract year, to relive the moments spent and to award the deserved ones in a shahi style.To welcome the new rota year of president Rtr.Bhavi Turakhia and her team in a bigger and a better way. Aim to pass on the steering wheel of the organization to a new chosen and a determined leader.
