Luis VEGA, Scientific Director of BCAM, Full Professor at the University of the Basque Country, will deliver the talk: "Remarks on the uncertainty principle from a mathematical point of view" (see poster on the next page)

The XXVII Memorial Rubio de Francia special activity is jointly organized by: ICMAT - Institute of Mathematical Sciences, CSIC -Spanish National Research Council, UAM - Autonomus University of Madrid, la UC3M - Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and the UCM - Complutense University of Madrid held annually since 1989 to honor his memory. The RSME - Royal Spanish Mathematical Society, sponsored by the UAM and the UNIZAR - University of Zaragoza, holds an annual "José Luis RUBIO de FRANCIA Prize" for young researchers in mathematics.

Remarks on the uncertainty principlefrom a mathematical point of view

Resumen:

I’ll review some recent work done in collaboration with L. Escauriaza, C. Ke-nig and G. Ponce on some classical uncertainty principles in MathematicalAnalysis as the ones due to Hardy and Morgan, and those that follow fromPaley-Wiener theory.

We propose a new approach that makes no use of complex variable tech-niques and that is based on proving logarithmic convex inequalities for someappropriate quantities related either to solutions of the free Schrodinger Equa-tion or to the Heat Equation. This new approach is flexible enough to be appliedto non-regular hamiltonians.
