    Desenvolvido no mbito da disciplina de projecto IV , o trabalho trata-se de um hotel cinco estrelas localizado na margem fluvial do Porto (Portugal). Dada a grande complexidade programtica requerida onde, para alm dos quartos de hotel, se exigia a organizao de um centro de conferncia, spa, ginsio e vrios restaurantes, o edifcio subdividiu-se em quatro volumes distintos ligados entre si por passadios. Desta forma, cada programa encontra-se associado a um volume independente : no volume mais a poente localizam-se as zonas tcnicas, no seguinte o spa, ginsio e trio da torre, no terceiro a entrada e piscina, e no quarto e ltimo, localizado mais a nascente, o centro de conferncias. Dada a dimenso relativamente pequena do terreno relativamente ao programa, a opo pela organizao dos mdulos dos quartos num volume vertical que se destaca da restante composio tornou-se tambm uma das premissas do projecto. Desta forma, para alm de se privilegiar a vista sobre a escarpa que configura o local, procurou-se tambm estabelecer uma relao directa com a verticalidade dos volumes (torres do Aleixo), que se organizam imediatamente a norte do terreno de interveno.

    Developed under the subject of Project IV (at faculdade de arquitectura da universidade do Porto), this works aim was to design a five star hotel on the bank of Rio Douro (Porto, Portugal) Given the large programmatic complexity, that in addition to the hotel rooms, required the organization of a conference center, spa, gym and several restaurants, the building was divided into four distinct volumes connected by walkways. Thus, each program is associated with a single and independent volume: in the one to east are located the technical areas; at the following one the spa, gym and lobby of the tower; at the third one, the main hall and the pool; and at the fourth and last one , located further to the east, the conference center. Given the relatively small size of the land comparatively to the program, the option to organize the modules of the rooms in a vertical volume that stands out from the rest composition has also become one of main points of the project. Thus, in addition to allowing the overlooking of the hill that configures the local, the tower configuration also aimed at establishing a direct relationship with the verticality of the volumes in the background (torres do aleixo).

  • Localizado numa zona no urbanizada na perfidera de Sofia (Bulgria), o terreno destaca-se sobretudo pela relao visual que estabelece com a Vitosha Mountain, bem como pela proximidade que estabelece com a estao de metro Madlost 3. Num espao completamente plano, o objectivo do programa consiste na criao de um centro desportivo (dedicado escalda) bem como a realizao de um enorme parque de apoio no s a este tipo de actividades como tambm a todos os habitantes deste local. Visto que o tema do projecto a escalada, a rocha enquanto metfora, surgiu imediatamente como motor de toda a proposta. Como tal as esculturas de Eduardo Chillida revelaram-se o ponto de partida conceptual para o desenvolvimento de toda a espacialidade do edifcio, procurando acima de tudo fundir a ideia de monlito no s na materialidade do edifcio bem como na organizao dos espaos interiores dedicados escalada. O edifcio organiza-se ento em duas praas distintas; uma primeira que estabelece uma relao directa com a rua, a envolvente e o pblico em geral; e uma segunda, mais privada, que procura anunciar a entrada para o programa. Relativamente forma do edifcio em si, este assume-se como uma rocha cortada em diversos pontos, que no s subdividem o volume em trs formas distintas, como tambm procuram criar uma srie de

    The site is Located in the outskirts of the bulgarian capital, Sofia. It lies in a non-urbanized area that relies on its proximity to the underground station Madlost 3 and to Vitosha Mountain, as its main referential points. The terrain is almost completely flat and, as is, it presents a natural gateway to the future public park.Given this primary assumptions, it was intended a qualification of this site and building not only as a gateway to the park but also as place for multiple activities where the Walltopia brand could be promoted. Thus, one conceived this intervention as a meeting and connecting point, able to generate a new kind of relationship with the city centre.Since the main activity intended for the Collider - Activity Centre is climbing, it is deeply and immediately connected to theme of the rock and the monolith. Chilidas sculptures were thus taken as a main reference, mostly by the way he manages to artificially create the same ambience of the natural climbing rocks by cutting the pice in a way that almost mimics the gaps that are so exciting for climbers.It was created a built environment that defines two different plazas; the first one in a mored direct relationship with the street, the surroundings and the public in general; and a second, a more interior plaza concerning the buildings activities, in direct relationship with its main entrance. The building itself is cut in such a way as to increase the relationship between the park and the built program. There are three different blocks, each one dedicated to different kinds of programs, that translates to three distinguish programmatic masses interconnected through the ground floor and through the exterior space on the first floor. The administration area, the Funtopia, as well as, the Walltopias brand store are located in the entrances building; in the west wing side, which has a more restrained relationship with both squares and exterior public spaces, is where the Multifunctional hall, Spa and Fitness take place. In the east wing, some activities were chosen to polarize the public square: the Coffee shop, Restaurant and Bar. The Main Square is also punctuated with a climbable exterior wall which intends to not only promote

    the Walltopias brand, but also too boost up the activities at the Park.The design of the Park was thought as a result of invisible impact waves coming from the main building. These impact waves are intended as a starting point for the design of the remaining park. The Collider, then, comes as a catalyst of action, that provokes a reaction throughout the whole Public park. Based on this idea, a net of events, scattered throughout the park, work as action activators trough which the different temporary activities can freely develop and expand. The activities that were able to be transposed into temporary and transmutable structures, were put in the connecting points of an invisible grid that connects the park with its surroundings. These grid allows the placing of each element, without it disrupting the function of the park, and also works as a strategy of organization instead of a definite and static plan. Through this mesh one can easily assemble a stage facing the park, for diverse events, supported by the swimming-pool platform and the land modulation which purposely intended to create an natural amphitheater.In conclusion, the building intends to be a meeting point culturing a diverse and dynamic program capable of promoting the Walltopia brand and generate diversity in the public realm.

    04AMPLIAO DA UNIVESIDADE DE BUENOS AIRES

    Desenvolvido no mbito da disciplina de Proyecto V (na faculdade de arquitectura de Buenos Aires) o projecto trata-se de uma ampliao da Universidade de Buenos Aires. Dada a natureza da cidade, composta exclusivamente por dois tipos de quarteires distintos (os que se encontram completamente delimitados e os que se encontram vazios), a definio dos limites do terreno tornou-se assim numa premissa fundamental para o desenvolvimento projectual. Com um extenso programa que incorpora 3 tipos de espaos completamente distintos salas de ps graduaes , laboratrios e um educatorium o edifcio organizou-se como um volume que no s define o permetro do terreno como tambm estabelece a relao com o edificado pr-existente (faculdade de medicina). Simultaneamente, de modo a tirar partido do espao localizado no interior do quarteiro, o edifcio ergue-se do cho em dois pontos distintos possibilitando no s o acesso ao ptio interior pblico como tambm gerando trs entradas distintas (cada uma para cada programa). Por ltimo, a opo pelas cobertura inclinadas, ao invs de um formalismo, surgiu atravs da necessidade de incorporar e relacionar o programa com a pr-existncia. Dado que manter a altura

    Developed under the subject of Proyecto V (at facultad de arquitectura diseo y urbanismo) the projects objective was to design the extension of Buenos Aires University. Given the nature of the city, composed exclusively by two distinct types of lots (those which are completely constructed and those that are empty) the definition of the terrains borders became a fundamental premise to the development of the project. With an extensive program that incorporates three completely different types of spaces - post graduation rooms, laboratories and a Educatorium - the building was organized as a volume that not only aims to define the perimeter of the lot as well to establish a relationship with pre-existence (medical school). Simultaneously, in order to take advantage of space located within the lot, the building rises from the ground at two different points enabling not only the access to the interior patio but also the definition of three different points of entry (each one for each program) . Finally, the option for slopped rooftops, rather than a formality, came through the need to relate the program with the pre-existence. Since keeping the height of the pre-exiting building wasnt enough to accommodate the new program, the solution adopted was to create different slops not only to gain some extra heigh but also to give some dynamic to the interior spaces.

    Localizado na Av. Serpa Pinto (Porto, Portugal) o projectos trata-se de um edifcio de habitao ao qual se deveria associar no s uma zona comercial como tambm um espao dedicado a escritrios. Dada a elevada pendente do terreno, a soluo adoptada foi a de criar uma plataforma localizada sensivelmente a meio do lote que para alm de consolidar a frente da rua da Constituio procura tambm conceber um plateau cota alta de uso exclusivo dos residentes. Relativamente ao edifcio, este encontra-se bipartido em dois volumes com alturas e modos de organizao distintos que, para alm de darem resposta aos programas de habitao e escritrios, organizam uma pequena praa comercial a nascente.

    HABITAR

    Located in Serpa Pintos road (Porto, Portugal), the project required the organization of an residence building, a commercial zone and space dedicated exclusively to offices. Given the high slope of the terrain, the chosen solution was to create a platform located roughly in the middle of the intervention area in order to, not only consolidate the front of Serpa Pintos road but also to organize a high plateau for the exclusive use of the residents.For the building itself, this is split into two volumes with heights and different modes of organization that, in addition to responding to the housing and offices programs, aimed to organize a small shopping area to the east.

    Foi a localizao privilegiada do terreno - no centro da grelha consolidada da cidade de Paris que deu incio a todo um exerccio de interpretao tipolgica da casa parisiense. Sob o tema do restaurante enquanto premissa projectual, a relao com o contexto tornou-se assim o mote para o desenvolvimento de todo o projecto. O edifcio um volume macio perfurado em pontos especficos e revestido a placagem de pedra procura assim , no s atravs da forma, como tambm da lgica da modelao da fachada assemelhar-se verticalidade das janelas que caracterizam a sua envolvente. Por oposio massividade do exterior, o interior do edifcio, por outro lado, adquire uma carcter bem mais fluido, procurando acima de tudo organizar um percurso gastronomico e sensorial onde o utilizador levado numa viagem que passa no s pelas salas de refeies como tambm pelo prprio motor do edifcio as cozinhas e salas de aulas .

Instead of a simplification we developed the hole building based on the light relations created by a vertical hole that allowed controled apertures on the facade. The original section of the building dictated the ceiling heights preserving this way the hieraquic relations present in the parisien houses.

    The path is a promenade of flavors, where the visitor is guided through the whole building, moving from din-ning rooms to kitchens with no restrictions, emphasiz-ing the performing compo-nent of the act of cooking. The course begins in the ground floor atrium with the reception and stairs that led to the auditorium and the upper floors where the kitchens and dinning rooms are located, finishing in the panoramic caf at the roof.

    The privileged location of the site, as well as its insertion on the consolidated grid of Paris became one of the main themes of an tipological interpretation exercise of the parisian block. The building assumes itself as a massive volume perforated in specific points with the vertical rythm of the formworks following the surrounding facades. The massive appearance of the volume, contrasts with its fluid interior, struc-tured by a sensory stimulant course, product of an functional synergy with a strong pedagogic and performative component. The sucession of platforms, where the dinning rooms have privileged views not only to the city but also to the kitchens afirms its performative role. Playing with transparencies ands promenades the project aim essentialy to provide a spacial experience.

    The concept is born from an volumetric and spatial interpretation of the original haussmanian buildingThe interior organization and the original volumetry led us to a tipological aproximation of the pre-existence. Instead of a simplification we developed the hole building based on the light relations created by a vertical hole that allowed controled apertures on the facade. The original section of the building dictated the ceiling heights preserving this way the hieraquic relations present in the parisien houses.

    The path is a promenade of flavors, where the visitor is guided through the whole building, moving from din-ning rooms to kitchens with no restrictions, emphasiz-ing the performing compo-nent of the act of cooking. The course begins in the ground floor atrium with the reception and stairs that led to the auditorium and the upper floors where the kitchens and dinning rooms are located, finishing in the panoramic caf at the roof.

    Localizado no interior do parque de Palermo, em Buenos Aires, o objectivo do projecto consiste na organizao uma loja de msica associada a um espao de caf concerto. Conceptualmente o projecto resume-se a uma forma geomtrica simples - cubo organizado em dois pisos com funes distintas (no primeiro um espao dedicado venda de produtos e no segundo um caf / palco) .A fachada, constituda por cabos de fibra ptica que embrulham o edifcio, foi concebida sobretudo com o objectivo de dar resposta a um dos requesitos fundamentais do projecto - tirar o maior partido possvel da iluminao artificial. Com este entramado de cabos, procurou-se portanto criar uma composio que funcionasse no s como um sistema de proteco contra a insolao durante o dia, mas que tambm fosse interessante como sistema de iluminao artificial durante a noite.

    Located within the park of Palermo in Buenos Aires, the aim of the project is to organize a music store associated with a coffee/concert space. Conceptually the project boils down to a simple geometric shape - cube - arranged over two floors with distinct functions (the first space dedicated to selling music records and the second organizing a cafe / stage).The facade, constructed with the use of fiber optic cables that "wrap" the building was designed primarily for the purpose of addressing a fundamental requisite of the project - to take maximum advantage of artificial lighting. With this cables, we aimed therefore to create a composition that worked not only as a protection against the sunlight during the day, but also as an interesting artificial illumination system overnight.

  • A relao com a morte assume, num tanatrio, um carcter mais puro, sem intrepertaes nem simbologias religiosas. O ser humano confrontado com o fim, a despedida e a memria. O edifcio deve-se prestar instropeco, livre de preocupaes exteriores. O edifcio prontifica-se a criar as condies para que essa introepco seja possvel. A proposta assume-se, pelo exterior, como um monolito feechado para o contexto envolvente, desconexo e fragmentadp. Assim, ao fechar-se sobre si mesmo, o edifcio permiote que os espaos desaquem a experincia fnebre e de despedida e no da realidade externa. O percurso de entrada no complexo realuizado atravs dos fragmentos do monlito at um ptio de descompresso, localizado cota da Rua de Monsehor Fonseca Soares. A partir deste ptio feito o acesso aos espaos sociais. A entreada nos espaos sociais (trio, Zonas administraticvas, Cafetaria e florista) feita pelos dois nicos volumes com aberturas exteriores cota do patio. Os espaos dedicados a funes fnebres (Sala de velrio, Sala de repouso, sala de despedida/capela, sala de espera) localizam-se no piso inferior, cujas nicas aberturas para o exterior so zenitais. Aqui os vrios edifcios assumem-se no s como salas mas tambm como canhes de luz cavados. Cada um dos fragmentos, que desenham o conjunto, assumem uma identidade nica tanto formall como espacial consoante a funo para a qual a sala foi pensada. Assim a capela assume um carcter mais simblico e imponente do que as salas de velrio, repouso ou de espera. A passagem desde o trio de distribuio para as salas sempre feita por antecmaras que admitem a provacidade dos utilizadores dos diferentes espaos. A sada do complexo efectuada por uma antecmara

    UM PERCURSO GASTRONOMICO

    The relationship with death assumes in crematorium its purests character, without any iintrepretations or religious symbols. The human being confronted with the end, the dismissal and memory. The building should be given to introspection, worry-free from the problems of the exterior. This way, the building aims to create the perfect conditions so that introspection becomes possible. The proposal is then assumed from the outside as a monolith, closed to the surrounding context so that the spaces that it creates can above all permit the mourn of the dead.

O percurso pensado numa lgica oonde dois grupos de utilizadores nunca se devam cruzar. Sendo assum o edifcio intrepertado como um caminho ou percurso com vrtias fases onde a sada no partilha o mesmo espao que a entrada.

  • 08REABILITACAO DO RIACHUELO

    Com o objectivo de requalificar uma das partes mais esquecidas da cidade de Buenos Aires, o projecto trata-se de uma reconverso urbana do riachuelo, um pequeno rio que divide a cidade da provncia e se encontra actualmente no terceiro lugar dos rios mais poludos do mundo. Em grande medida o projecto consiste essencialmente na organizao de vrios atravessamentos entre as duas margens de modo a, no s redinmizar todo este espao como tambm resolver os intensos problemas de trafego que o afectam actualmente. Da mesma forma, estes novos atravessamentos funcionariam tambm como formas de aliviar a importncia da auto-estrada centro-avellaneda, auto-estrada esta que numa fase posterior do projecto deveria mesmo poder ser eliminada de forma a reabilitar todos os espaos que configura actualmente. De modo a requalificar ambas margens do rio foi tambm desenhado todo um novo espao pblico capaz de incentivar a utilizao da marginal e procedeu-se a uma reorganizao formal e funcional no s dos actuais quarteires (reconvertidos em espaos comerciais e de habitao) como tambm de alguns edifcios determinantes para a consolidao da imagem do local tais como os silos (reconvertidos em espaos culturais).

    REABILITAO URBANA

    Aiming to improve one of the most forgotten areas of Buenos Aires, the project focus on Riachuelo, a small river that divides the city from the province. To a large extent the project mainly consists in the organization of several connection points between the two riverbeds in order to not only revive this whole space but also to solve the intense traffic problems that currently affect this area. Likewise, these new crossings should also function as means of alleviate the importance Avellaneda - Center Freeway (freeway that at a later stage of the project could even be eliminated in order to rehabilitate all the spaces that it currently sets). In order to requalify both banks of the river it was also re-designed a new public space and was made a complete overhaul of the formal and functional organizations of the lots and buildings next to the river.

  • No mbito da disciplina de projecto V na faculdade de arquitectura de Buenos Aires, desenvolveu-se o projecto de uma habitao de frias unifamiliar. Dada a circunstncia do lugar - um quarteiro de forma irregular e grandes dimenses situado na periferia da cidade - o projecto adquire uma certa autonomia relativamente rua. O volume organiza-se sinteticamente em dois espaos distintos articulados por um trio exterior coberto onde se organizam de forma relativamente independente as zonas mais comuns e privadas da habitao. Dada a condio de habitao de frias estes dois espaos foram organizados de uma forma independente de modo a permitir apropriaes distintas simultneas. Por ltimo, relativamente fachada, a adpoo de uma fachada verde (vegetao natural que cresce nos birssoeils) surgiu da inteno de procurar fundir ao mximo o edifcio com a envolvente natural que define a sua circunstncia.

    Developed under the subject of project V (at facultad de arquitectura diseo y urbanismo), the project consists in the design of single family vacation home. Given the circumstances of the place, a large and irregular lot located on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, the project acquires a certain autonomy from the street. The volume is then organized into two distinct and autonomous spaces (common and private areas) articulated by an "outer court". Finally, the option of using a green faade (natural vegetation that grows in birssoleils) arose from the intention of seeking to fuse the building with the surrounding natural setting that defines its circumstance.

  • Inspirados pela Queima das Fitas, festa emblemtica entre os estudantes, optamos por fazer a barraca com rescurso a um certo simbolismo que procura fazer a ponte entre a festa que celebra o final do perodo escolar com a bebida que mais o acompanha durante esse percurso, a cerveja. A forma surge ento pela sobreposio de grades de cerveja que funcionam no s como revestimento mas tambm como estrutura s quais introduzida uma rede de iluminao alternada que tira partido no s das aberturas de cada uma das grades bem como do seu carcter semi-transparente e respectiva cr. Dada a sua localizao e contexto a barraca, mais do que um simples espao sombrio dever ento constituir, de facto, um ponto simultaneamente atractivo e fcil de identificar onde a luz, as transparncias e a forma adquirem um papel crucial.

    Inspired by Queima das Feitas ( students festival in Oporto, Portugal ) we opted for making the temporary structure using one of the mains elements that characterizes this festival the beer. The formal solution results then from the juxtaposition of several beer crates, each one with different collers and lights inside. Given its location and circumstance, the structure more than a simple dark element, should then become simultaneously a attractive and easy to find element.

  • Com o objectivo de conceber uma residncia de estudantes, estao terminal de um comboio turstico e um centro intrepertativo da cidade, o projecto, localizado junto ao edifcio da antiga alfndega do Porto ( Portugal ), tratou-se sobretudo de uma reflexo acerca de como intervir numa zona extremamente consolidada da cidade. Num local marcado pela verticalidade das habitaes do sculo XVIII, procurou-se portanto procurar traduzir toda a essncia do local para o edifcio proposto. Os mdulos de habitao do estudantes organizados sob a forma de torres procuram assim no s procurar manter a permeabilidade entre a cidade e a margem de gaia como tambm estabelecer uma relao directa entre a habitao contempornea e a pr-existncia. Uma outra grande componente do projecto foi a interveno no espao pblico, espao que se desenhou o mais amplo e limpo possvel de modo a promover aquele que sem dvida o seu ponto forte o contexto. Da mesma forma, com o centro intrepertativo, - espao localizado por debaixo de dois espelhos de gua em frente alfndega procurou-se no s criar um edifcio annimo mas sobretudo um espao que realce as nuances da envolvente.

    RESIDNCIA JUNTO AO RIO

    With the objective of designing a students residence, a train terminal station and a building to promote the city itself, the project, located next to the old customs building in Oporto (Portugal), was mainly a reflection on how to intervene in an extremely consolidated area of the city. In a place marked by the typical eighteenth century housing, the main aim of the project was then to translate all the essence of the surroundings to the proposed building. The students residences - organized in the form of towers - so seek not only to maintain the permeability between the city and riverbed of Gaia but also to establish a direct link between contemporary housing and pre-existence.Another major component of the project was to intervene in the public space, space that was drawn the cleanest as possible in order to promote the widest range of activities. Likewise, the citys promotional building located underneath two planes of water in front of the customs - sought to create not only a building but rather an anonymous space that highlight the nuances of the surroundings.

  • Assistimos nas duas ltimas dcadas e a uma velocidade estonteante, transformao da pequena aldeia piscatria do Dubai num dos principais destinos tursticos de luxo do mundo. Detentora de mltiplos records do guiness, tais como o do edifcio mais alto Burj Khalifa, ou do hotel mais luxuoso do mundo Burj al Arab, o Dubai tornou-se numa das cidades mais mediticas da actualidade. Para isso, a arquitectura parece ter desempenhado um papel fundamental. Foi atravs da espectacularidade, exuberncia e luxo dos projectos construdos que o Dubai conseguiu atrair, no s, a ateno dos meios de comunicao como tambm milhares de turistas por todo o mundo. semelhana de uma campanha de marketing, os edifcios, valorizados exclusivamente pela sua imagem, parecem reduzir-se assim a meros produtos pelos quais se promove a cidade. Produtos onde a arquitectura se reduz a uma imagem, uma experincia; na sua essncia um espectculo. De forma a compreender a actual morfologia e estratgia de desenvolvimento urbano do Dubai, com este trabalho procurar-se- no s estudar os factores sociais, econmicos e polticos que se encontram na sua origem, como tambm reflectir acerca da viabilidade deste modelo de cidade, onde a qualidade da arquitectura parece secundarizar-se relativamente sua imagem ou capacidade de seduo.

    ABSTRACT

    In the last two decades and at a high speed weve watched the transformation of the small fishing village of Dubai in one the main touristic destinations of the world.With several world Guinness records like the tallest building Burj Khalifa or the most luxurious hotel of the world Burj al Arab Dubai has become one of todays most well known cities . In this process, architecture seems to have played an important role. It was through the spectacularity, exuberance and luxury of the built projects that Dubai has attracted not only the media but also thousands of tourists around the world. As a marketing campaign, the buildings, valued only by their image, seem to have been reduced to mere products by which the city promotes itself. Products where architecture reduces itself to an image, an experience; in its essence a spectacle.In order to understand the actual morphology and urban development strategy of Dubai, this work seeks not only to understand the social, economical and political factors behind its origin, but also to reflect about the viability of this model where the the quality of architecture seems to be reduced to its image.
