Dr Luis Gimenez Amoros (PhD, Rhodes University) (MMus, Rhodes University), (BA Music, School

Current Employment: Postdoctoral fellow at the Unit of Zimbabwean Studies at Rhodes University
in South Africa. In 2015, the activities for this fellowship are (ask for additional information to the
author about these activities):
- The repatriation of the Zimbabwean recordings from the International Library of African
Music (ILAM) at the University of Great Zimbabwe (UGZ) in Masvingo, Midlands State
University (MSU) in Gweru, Zimbabwe College of Music (ZCM) in Harare and the
University of Zimbabwe (UZ) in Zimbabwe).
- Music workshops at the Universities mentioned by the Unit of Zimbabwean Studies in June
2015.
- The publication of a book on Zimbabwean music related to the repatriation and revitalization
of the Zimbabwean recordings at ILAM.
- Revitalisation of the Zimbabwean recordings at ILAM by an international Zimbabwean artist,
Hope Masike: Live performances, seminars and recordings.
- Five peer reviewed articles for accredited journals (two articles related to my doctoral thesis).
- The revitalization of njari music: The most popular mbira before independence in Zimbabwe.
- Music and land reform: Songs from the third chimurenga in relation to the songs during the
liberation war.
- Internships on “music and popular struggles” with Prof Pravin Jah in India, Prof Mamdani in
Uganda and Prof Holloway in Mexico through the Unit of Zimbabwean Studies during 2015-
2016.
