Biking

• Over two miles of paved

bike paths connect

campgrounds with other

points of interest.

• Paths form a loop

around north and south

side of Big Sable River.

• Bicycles are allowed on

the unpaved access road

to the Big Sable Point

Lighthouse.

• From the Pines

campground to the

Lighthouse and back is

approximately 3 miles.

Boating and Canoeing

• Unimproved access points

along Hamlin Lake and the

Big Sable River provide

canoeing and kayaking

opportunities. Check out

the marked canoe trail; it

is one of a kind!

• With a paved, two lane

boat launch on Hamlin

Lake, it is easy to access

the excellent fishing and

water skiing of this

5,000 acre body of

water.

Fishing

• Whether fishing for

perch near the dam,

bluegills on Hamlin Lake

or salmon at the mouth

of the river, there are

plenty of opportunities

to reel one in!

• Special fishing

regulations apply along

the Big Sable River, so

check the MDNR fishing

regulations before

wetting a line.

Hiking

• 25 miles of hiking and

walking trails and miles of

Lake Michigan shoreline

allow you to explore the

dune, wetland and forest

environment.

Interpretive Programs

• Join the park interpreter

for daily summer

programs and learn

about the park’s history,

ecosystems and

recreational

opportunities.

Kayaking and Tubing

• Kayaking opportunities

include the Big Sable

River and Lost Lake.

• Tubing is an extremely

popular way to spend a

warm afternoon.

• Kayaks and canoes can

be rented from the park

concession at Hamlin

Lake.

• Tubes can be purchased

from the park store.

Recreation 101

• Fly a kite! Learn to fish!

Paddle a kayak for the

first time!

• If you want to learn about

a new outdoor activity,

Recreation 101 is your

chance.

• With Recreation 101

programs, you bring the

passion to learn

something new, we’ll

provide the gear, guide

and good times!

Special Programs

• Special programs are held each week

at the park’s amphitheater.

Musicians, animal rehabilitators and

historians show their skills and share

their knowledge.

Winter Sports

• Just because it’s cold,

doesn’t mean that you

can’t enjoy the park.

Dress properly and stop

out for weekly snowshoe

hikes and groomed cross

country ski trails.
