Projects
Client:London Underground (LU)
Scope: Provision of consultancy to
develop an Engineering Business
Continuity Plan for LondonUnderground. Further to this the
commission was to provide London
Underground with a defined
contingency arrangement in the
event of any of its existing
engineering suppliers (PPP Infracos,
PFIs, etc.) being unable to fulfil their
contractual obligations.
When:Completed August 2007.Approach: NuAspect providedspecialist technical and
management expertise to develop a
comprehensive Business Continuity
Planning Guide and associated
processes which enabled LU to have
in place the requisite contingency
arrangements for its engineering
supplier base.
The development process for theabove consisted of utilising
academic research, the principles
defined within PAS56 (latterly
BS25999) Business Continuity
Management, industry good
practice (including the Business
Continuity Institutes guidance
documents) and practitioner
experience. From this a Business
Continuity plan framework wasdeveloped to cover all of LUs
engineering suppliers (PPP Infracos,
PFI contractors and others).
Result: The Business Continuity planframework was based on providing a
Category 5 standard (requirement
placed on LU by itself) controlling the
monitoring of potential discontinuity
of supply, development of specific
continuity plans for actual events and
continuous improvement of related
processes.
In addition, a Business ContinuityPlanning Manual was produced to
assist in the development of specific
discontinuity events, in a format similar
to existing corporate incident
management and recovery plans.
During the final stages of thedevelopment work, Metronet Rail
went into PPP Administration and, as
such, this provided a live test for the
processes and documentation
developed by NuAspect.
The Business Continuity Planning
Manual was used to develop the
detailed plans which were
undertaken with, and on behalf of,
the appointed Administrator.
The result from this major disruption to
normal business arrangements was no
impact to LUs core business of
running a train service. Moreover, the
transition into Administration and
further out of Administration into the
control of LU was successfully
supported by the processes and
documentation developed by
NuAspect.
