Since its creation in 1859, Champagne Duval-Leroy has been located in Vertus, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Today Carol Duval-Leroy holds the prestigious position of President of the company, having joined the very select group of women involved in running Champagne houses in 1991 following the premature death of her husband. Carol has instigated the modernisation of production processes, increased the product range and also expanded exports. Her pioneering eorts resulted in her recently having been awarded the prestigious insignia of ‘Chevalier of the Legion of Honour’ as well as being elected to the position of President of the Association Viticole Champenoise.

The Soellner family own vineyards in the Donauland on the Danube in Austria. The vineyards are situated 60 kilometres west of Vienna on the slopes of Wagram. The wines produced here have great depth of character and balance. The wines are biodynamic and are made by Daniela Vigne and Toni Soellner in Gosing am Wagram in Lower Austria. Growing up on his parents’ farm, Toni developed a close relationship with nature, and made up his mind in 1995 to start a controlled, organic rural business.Since 1997, their land has been farmed under strict organic guidelines governed by the Austrian state authority.

22476 Soellner, Wogenrain Grüner Veltliner, Wagram 2008 6/75cl £9.61

100% Grüner Veltliner. The Soellner family own vineyards in the Donauland on the Danube in Austria, and they consistently produce wines of great depth of character and balance. The wines are biodynamic and since 1997 the land has been farmed under strict organic guidelines governed by the Austrian state authority. This blend makes a light and typically characteristic wine. The grapes are hand-picked, and the must is slowly fermented in stainless steel tanks. Maturation takes place for a short time in oak casks. After the second racking the Wogenrain is kept until the following spring in tank, in order to retain freshness and fruit purity.

22477 Soellner, Fumburg Grüner Veltliner Reserve, Wagram 2008 6/75cl £14.38

100% Grüner Veltliner. A rich fine Veltliner from old, deep-rooted vines, some as old as 20 years. This Veltliner is made from the best, ripest grapes from old Grüner Veltliner vines. The grapes are hand-selected and pneumatically pressed. The must ferments very slowly in large wooden barrels. After the alcoholic fermentation has taken place, the young wine is still kept with the yeast to gain its character. It is finished in big casks and is bottled only after maturation - at least 8 months.

Sweet White

Sonoma Cutrer is dedicated to the pursuit of original expression in our wines. Each wine reflects its regional and seasonal climate, its specific vineyard character and its terroir. From the very first vintage of Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay to the limited production of our world-class Pinot Noir, this dedication has taken root and continues to grow. Our “Grand Cru” philosophy is a unique assimilation of traditional Burgundian winemaking methods and our own technological innovation. It’s a perfect balance of tradition and discovery, bringing forth noble wines that express a sense of place, vintage after vintage.

Icewine grapes are left on the vine well into the winter months. The resulting freezing and thawing of the grapes dehydrates the fruit, concentrates the sugars, acids and extracts in the berries. The grapes are picked by hand in their natural frozen state, ideally at temperatures of -10°C to -13°C. Inniskillin produce truly distinctive wines that rank amongst the world’s finest. Inniskillin crafts premium Icewines in Ontario’s Niagara Peninsula and the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. Both regions have the essential climatic conditions for Icewine production: warm summers to ripen the grapes and cold winters to provide the essential natural freezing.

A rich and chocolaty Merlot with some exotic touches of eucalyptus and tobacco on the palate. The 8 months in French and American oak barriques gives a lovely toasty edge to the typically smooth, rounded finish.

19716 Veramonte Reserva Pinot Noir, Casablanca Valley 2007 6/75cl £9.45

The cool Casablanca Valley is gaining a good reputation for Pinot Noir: the cool temperatures allow for a long, steady ripening period ideal for this notoriously difficult grape to grow. Bright cherry and strawberry flavours with a rich, velvety finish.

22657 Veramonte Primus, Casablanca Valley 2007 6/75cl £11.37

This ‘super-premium’ wine uses Carmenère as the base together with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Using premium quality fruit from the Alto de Casablanca estate, the young wine is aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. The finished wine has superb concentration with mouth-filling flavours of blackberry and cherries mingling with the spicy oak.

22653 Veramonte Reserva Sauvignon Blanc, Casablanca Valley 2009 6/75cl £6.71

Veramonte

Veramonte, which translates to “Edge of the Mountain,” is located in the remote Casablanca Valley alongside Chile’s rugged Pacific Coast. In this distant winemakers’ paradise are nestled 1,000 acres of grape vines among 10,000 acres of wild land that Veramonte has preserved as a natural greenbelt. At Veramonte each of the wines has its own singular way of expressing the ground and environment from which it was born. Our philosophy at Veramonte is founded in our conviction that the terroir of the varietal is of the utmost importance in determining the wine’s character.

11778 Errázuriz Chardonnay Wild Ferment, Casablanca Valley 2007 6/75cl £11.03

Most regions experienced spring fog and even light rains through November, though for the most part this had little eect on flowering and therefore on yields. A heat wave hit the country in early January lasting about two weeks. Temperatures then returned to moderate levels for the most of the ripening season. The chardonnay ripened slowly maintaining excellent acid levels while achieving ripe tropical fruit characters. The rich toast flavours from the oak provide a good balance.

Sweet White

20916 Errázuriz Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc, Casablanca Valley 2007 12/37.5cl £7.46

85% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Gewurtztraminer. Pale yellow / gold. Ripe fruit aromas: apricot with notes of orange zest and a hint of honey. Soft, sweet oaky notes balance perfectly with the fruit-based background on the palate. The sweet lush texture envelops the palate while crisp acidity maintains the wine's freshness.

Don Maximiano Errázuriz founded Viña Errázuriz in 1870 in the Valle de Aconcagua. Recognizing that this valley, with its cool, rainy winters, hot, dry summers and moist Pacific Ocean breezes, was ideal for growing grapes, Don Maximiano sent for the finest clones from France and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this barren land into a world-class vineyard. As an estate winery, Viña Errázuriz strives to produce the finest wines by controlling every stage of the winemaking process, from grape growing in the Aconcagua, Casablanca and Curicó valleys, to winemaking with the most natural techniques.

RedNEW 23418 Sancerre Rouge, Roblin 2008 12/75cl £14.24

100% Pinot Noir. Clay limestone and silt soil on this west-facing slope that had been planted to Pinot Noir at the beginning of the twentieth century. Then phylloxera wiped out the vineyards, and this slope wasn’t widely replanted because of the unevenness of the hillside, despite the fact that it was especially well suited to Pinot in Sancerre. The Roblins have 0.6 hectares (1.5 acres), and the wine is made entirely in demi-muids (new or one-year old, depending on the vintage).

22336 Sancerre, Domaine Roblin 2007 12/75cl £13.42

100% Sauvignon Blanc. The Roblin estate at Chateau de Maimbray just north of Sancerre produces stony and crisp Sancerre with remarkable depth and good length.

Matthias Roblin’s first commercial vintage was 2000 and of that debut Decanter wrote “Searing concentration of lime and elderflower fruit with refreshing acids. Long and even with a steely mineral character.” The magazine went on to select Matthias’ 2003 Sancerre as the best white table wine to come out of the Loire in 2005. In 2006 his younger brother Emile joined him and now the two work alongside their father who with their uncle manages the production at Chateau de Maimbray.

It all began, as in any story, with a nickname. Braida was the name earned by Giuseppe Bologna in the fields where he played “stretch ball,” a local Piedmontese sport, every Sunday. The family founder was a wheelwright and cultivated a vineyard of Barbera for himself and his friends. Giacomo Bologna inherited the vineyard and the nickname from his father, and above all an unconditional love for his land and for wine. Today the company is an expanded and faithful image of the philosophy held by Giacomo and his wife Anna – their way of understanding life, the earth, wine and friendship.

Ermita

Run by father and son team Santiago Ijalba García and Roberto Ijalba Pérez, the Santiago Ijalba winery is situated just four kilometres from Haro, the “capital of Rioja”. Now in their 11th year of production, their first vintage was produced in 1998. Owning some 20ha vineyards – 90% of which are tempranillo – the Ijalba’s buy grapes from a further 80haand have always worked with the same growers since the beginning. Depending on the vintage conditions the winery produces between 50,000 and 65,000 9 litre cases per year. Approximately 2,000 of those are certified organic.
