During UE tuning, we analyze UE logs, cell trace, UE trace, handover problems uplink and downlink throughput latency dropped callsproblems, uplink and downlink throughput, latency, dropped calls, abnormal events, alarms and counters etc. UE tuning is closely related to the calculation of the Key Performance Indicators. Initial Tuning is done before the acceptance phase, so with tuning activities we try to meet the agreed KPIs.

You are recommended to use the following KPIs that are related to Accessibility , Retainability , Integrity and mobility .

Accessibility KPI. The accessibility is measured by the Session Setup Success Rate (SSSR) which is defined as the ratio of successful session setups, divided by the total number of session setup attempts. This is a combined metric including RRC, S1 and E-RAB establishment success rate.Reasons for poor accessibility are for example poor coverage and high uplinkReasons for poor accessibility are for example poor coverage and high uplink interference..

The Retainability KPI is measured by the Session Abnormal Release Rate when you use short calls, and by the Minutes per Abnormal Release when you use “long call” tests. Some of the reasons for poor retainability are: missing neighbor relations, poor radio conditions, badly tuned handover parameters.

Common integrity measurements are uplink and downlink user throughput and the Round Trip Time, RTT. Reasons for poor integrity include but are not limited to: poor radio conditions and high system load.

9

The mobility KPI is the handover success rate. It can be verified by system counters that record the success rate of intra and inter frequency handover attempts. Reasons for poor mobility include but are not limited to missing neighbor relations, poor radio conditions and badly tuned handover parameters.

In L11 there are three optional features. “Coverage Triggered WCDMA Session Continuity”, “Coverage Triggered GERAN Session Continuity” and “Coverage Triggered CDMA2000 Session Continuity”. They allow a UE in RRC_CONNECTED state that is moving into poor LTE coverage to release the current session and set up a new one in another system using another radio access technology with little disruption to the useraccess technology, with little disruption to the user.

The KPI that is associated with these features is the “Bad Coverage Evaluation Reports”. This KPI counts the number of poor coverage evaluation reports received in the cell.

During the UE tuning you should check:- the UE call flows,- dropped calls and dropped calls maps,- blocked calls and blocked call maps,- handover failures and handover failure maps,- throughput maps,- alarms,- counters.

Common problems identified during this phase are:- missing neighbor relations, - poor radio conditions, - badly tuned parameters,- high system load,- High UL interference .

During the UE tuning phase the KPIs are very important. As you can see in the table, some of them are calculated from the log file data and some from the counters!
