LTE introduces a layered architecture with the potential to introduce mobile data applications which create the potential to transform policing
Digital is moving rapidly from ‘add on capability’ to the ‘new mainstream’ – also for policing!

Connected workforce
Example: Range of new connected devices
Digitally-enabled policing : mobile connected workforce and cars
Response vehicle become a digital hub
Example: Smart Patrol car
LTE broadband will mean front-line officers and staff will be digitally enabled in all aspects of their work – giving them easy access to all the information that they need. Information can pass quickly and smoothly to where it is needed and can be acted on.
Benefit: Frontline officers can work from anywhere effectively and can be deployed more wildly and flexibly in the field. At the same time backoffice and specialist resources can be more centralized (or even shared). This results in estate savings, more efficient working by avoiding travel times and more effective specialist support.

Faster and more efficient response
High Level Solution : In order to react faster and better, first responders receive dispatch orders with digital briefing such as:
• Incident location
• Rich contextual data
• New display tools • Right intelligence
Digitally-enabled policing : better dispatch
Dispatch with digital briefings over LTE and mobile devices saves time, provides officers with the right intelligence and own view of the suspect, victim and location. This reduces risk, prioritises incidents and protects officers.
Benefit: Get the right officer to the right incident rapidly and well prepared to act.

Smooth flow of information where and when it is needed
• Check vehicle plates with central database to pick out stolen vehicles
• Identify people on the spot New digital channels for the public
• Frontline officers work with backofficeintelligence.
• A holistic incident view is created by combining data from various feeds in a multi-agency environment
Digitally-enabled policing : better intelligence
Police officers have access to information and intelligence when and where it is needed to provide an effective response. One view of the ‘customer’ to develop the right risk profile and react appropriately.
Benefit: Improved efficiency and effectiveness of at-scene activities and incident resolution, thus reducing risks from crime and freeing up resources earlier

Avoid double work
• Digital evidence collection, e.g. photo, video recording
• Interviewing people an statement gathering with video
• Digital case files instead of paperwork, thus enabling easier handover and case progression
• Tagging of assets and physical evidence
Example: Mobile police systems allow recording incidents on the move
Digitally-enabled policing : mobile one-stop incident reporting
Crime and incident management
Custody management
Digital imaging & intelligence gathering
Businessintelligence reporting
Case preparation (warrants, witnesses, victims
Investigation and targeting of criminal networks
Officers operate within a fully digitised criminal justice system. With the right tools (e.g. tablet) all evidence is recorded digitally from the start including all supporting evidence. This avoids multiple entry and enables rapid digital case progression throughout the system.
Benefit: Police officers will spend more time on the street, not in the station.
Cases are progressed rapidly through the system

Digitally-enabled policing : giving the Control Room control
Rapid support when it is needed
• Continuous visibility of officer location, status, and health signs
• Body worn streaming video feed
• Instantaneous remote help from specialists
• Merge frontline intelligence gathering with remote big data tools
Control room keeps remotely involved during dangerous and difficult incidents with data feeds from various frontline sensors
Benefit: Control can better judge frontline situation to make assessments and provide tailored specialist support to frontline officers

LTE for Public Safety is the first step towards a truly digital policing model
Step 1: Establish LTE as a connectivity enable
Step 2: Develop and use new mobile and digital applications
Step 3: Transform to a digital policing model
Being part of an ecosystem of 7.2 billion subscriptions worldwide (LTE of 1.9 billion) public safety users get access toeconomies of scale, much wider service landscape and all the future enhancements developed in this ecosystem.
