BUSINESS BRIEF
Introduction
Fueled by the rapid uptake in new smart mobile data devices and the increasing usage
of advanced mobile applications such as Web, video, and multimedia, LTE is no longer
just an industry buzzword but is now fast becoming a reality. Operators know their 3G
networks are not equipped to sustain this high level of trafc growth. Theyre looking
to all-IP LTE networks to provide the bandwidth required to support these data-hungry
devices and applications.
LTE Challenges
The stage has been set for a data explosion in mobile networks around the globe. There is exponential growth in not only the number of data subscribers, but also
the number of data connections. But as bandwidth growth outpaces the increase
in subscribers, operators will nd it difcult to sustain revenue growth. In addition,
applications growth continues to multiply, and subscribers increasingly demand the ability
to access the network anytime, anywhere. The efforts to keep pace with this growth
have resulted in a fully meshed network and issues with scalability, route management,
interoperability and load-balancing.
In this era of exponential growth and increasing personalization of services, gathering
network intelligence will also be imperative for LTE networks. Operators will want to
constantly measure and monitor the performance of their network to ensure subscriber
quality of experience and to quickly detect and resolve network issues.
Why Tekelec
Tekelecs innovative LTE portfolio provides operators with the tools to scale their data core
to match the tremendous increase in data trafc, ensure a quality user experience and
monitor the network to collect the key market data they need to monetize the mobile
data boom. The solution includes the following components:
Diameter Signaling Router
The Tekelec Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) assists operators in scaling and managing
services and applications in LTE networks. The DSR solution centralizes routing, trafc
management and load-balancing tasks to enable IMS and LTE networks to grow
incrementally and cost effectively to support increasing service and trafc demands.
Subscriber Data Management
Tekelecs Subscriber Data Management (SDM) solution allows for all subscriber proles
to be converged in one node, shows a consolidated view of customer data, converged
registration and authentication, and allows optimal synchronization across domains.

Policy Management
Tekelec also allows operators to deliver more services between
people or machines with less investment, increasing revenues and
ARPU while lowering capex and opex with their PCRF. Tekelec
can help operators create new revenue by capturing a larger
segment of the market through tiering of services and subscriber
personalization, reducing churn by delivering a better experience
and increasing revenue per subscriber by offering opt-in premium
services.
Performance Management
Tekelecs LTE solution includes ensuring customer experience
with network intelligence. Using the Performance Intelligence
Center (PIC), Tekelec provides operators with the ability to quickly
diagnose, measure and resolve subscriber activity and complaints,
identify and track subscriber-specic service performance and
availability data for better service, and correlate subscriber
experience with handsets for immediate analysis. Tekelecs
seamless integration between the PIC and PCRF will provide a
powerful solution for optimizing operator cost and creating new
revenue.
IP Short Message Gateway
The IP-SM-GW enables IP-based broadband access to interwork
with the existing SMS and MMS messaging services. The
IP-SM-GW is also essential for rolling out rich communication
services (RCS), which enable operators to deliver sticky messaging
services like presence-enabled address book, SIP-based chat
services and mobile instant messaging.
